The makers of PUBG Mobile say they may negotiate with the local authorities of Gujarat about the ban. The makers of the popular battle royale game, PUBG Mobile, are clearly not pleased with the recent developments in Gujarat, where the game was recently banned from being played in several districts and players were arrested for violating the ban. According to an official statement we received earlier today, Tencent Games is undoubtedly siding with the players of the game and is considering negotiating with the local authorities in Gujarat about the ban. “We were thus surprised to learn that local authorities in a few cities have decided to impose a ban on playing our game. We are working to understand the legal basis of such bans, and hope we can have a constructive dialogue with relevant authorities to explain our objectives and that they withdraw the prohibition. To PUBG MOBILE players, we want to assure you that we are on your side and we will try our best to find a reasonable solution,” said Tencent Games in an official statement to Digit. The entire story of the PUBG Mobile ban in India began about a week ago when the city administration of Rajkot, Gujarat imposed a ban on PUBG Mobile and the Momo Challenge till April 30 in an attempt to reduce distraction in studying students. Soon after, the local authorities of two other districts in Gujarat, Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath, also imposed the same ban on PUBG Mobile. Yesterday, ten youngsters in Rajkot were arrested for violating the ban and were later released on bail. “PUBG MOBILE is a game. It is meant merely for entertainment and should be enjoyed in a healthy and responsible manner. In consonance with our endeavor to continue promoting responsible gaming experience, we are working on the introduction of a healthy gameplay system in India to promote balanced, responsible gaming, including limiting play time for under-aged players,” included Tencent Games in its statement. Though the local authorities only meant to curb discraction and feelings of violence in young, impressionable PUBG Mobile players, whether they were right in banning the game altogether is a question that still goes unanswered. After several reports of gaming addiction and cyber-bullying, Tencent Games incorporated a “digital lock” in PUBG Mobile earlier this month but only in China. Will the recent developments in Gujarat push the game maker to bring the lock feature to India as well? Will the Chinese game developer succeed in making the authorities lift the ban? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
