Highlights: Qualcomm quietly added support for 192MP camera systems in a range of SoCs. While there's no sensor that shoots in 192MP, future smartphones powered by the SoCs might come with high-res imaging. Snapdragon 670, Snapdragon 675, Snapdragon 710, Snapdragon 712, Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 855 support 192MP cameras. 2019 seems to be the year when smartphone camera systems are coming of age. From 48MP camera sensors to a five-camera system that shoots simultaneously, smartphone companies are still quite actively experimenting with camera systems to improve the photos. One of the primary enablers of this new crop of camera systems is Qualcomm which opened up support for the 48MP camera in its chipsets, as well as work with Nokia and Light to configure the penta-camera setup on the Nokia 9 Pureview. Now, Qualcomm is shaping up the next phase of camera innovation quietly with support for 192-megapixel camera systems in some existing chipsets. First spotted by developers at XDA Forums, Qualcomm quietly updated the spec-sheets of certain mid-range and flagship chipsets to include support for 192MP cameras. The Snapdragon 670, Snapdragon 675, Snapdragon 710, Snapdragon 712, Snapdragon 845 and Snapdragon 855 all support 192 camera systems. The spec-sheet of the Snapdragon 855 reflects the change We have reached out to Qualcomm for an official confirmation. The article will be updated as soon as we have a response. The ISP section of the chipsets show that apart from support for single-camera 48MP with multi-frame noise reduction and zero shutter lag, there’s also support for a single camera up to 192MP. The update essentially indicates future smartphones that are powered by the chipsets might support photo capture at 192-megapixels. Notably, Qualcomm states 192MP will only be possible in a single-camera system. Dual and hybrid camera systems might not be able to leverage the high-resolution. However, there is no smartphone camera sensor that supports 192MP images presently. You thought the megapixel war was over? Seems like it just begun.
