Highlights: Redmi 7 may launch alongside Redmi Note 7 Pro on March 18 in China Redmi CEO teased a “new product” launch on Weibo Xiaomi CEO also asked Redmi users about their expectations from the Redmi 7 Redmi President Lu Weibing has hinted that the company may launch the Redmi 7 along with the Redmi Note 7 Pro on March 18 in China. In a post on Weibo, the executive posted an image with a stamp which mentions that its has been taken with the Redmi Note 7 Pro that launched with a 48MP camera in India last month. In the caption, Lu has teased a “new product” launch. Since the specs of the former have already been made public via TENAA listing, it is speculated that the “new product” will be the affordable Redmi 7. Generally when a device is spotted on any of the certification websites, it is seen as an indication that the product will launch soon. Moreover, Xiaomi CEO has also teased the phone by putting up a question to users of “Redmi 1/2/3/4/5/6” asking what specs and features would they like in the next device in the series. He also wrote that although it is a little late to seek an opinion on the phone, it is still very useful. Jun is expecting a good response for the phone as he commented on the post that the company “must prepare a large amount of stock.” In January, he had hinted that the Redmi 7 would be priced around 700-800 Yuan (approx Rs 7000-Rs 8000), and in the latest Weibo post he confirmed that the Redmi 7 will come equipped with 3.5mm headphone jack, an infrared blaster and a large battery. As per the TENAA listing, the Redmi 7 has the model number M1810F6LE and is expected to come with a 6.26-inch TFT HD+ display with a 1520 × 720p resolution and a waterdrop notch. It is rumoured that the phone will be powered by a mobile platform which will be clocked at 1.8GHz. The phone may be offered in 2/3/4GB RAM and 16/32/64GB internal storage options. A hands-on video claimed that the phone will have Qualcomm Snapdragon 632 SoC and the phone in the video was claimed to have 3GB RAM and 64GB storage. The smartphone’s image on TENAA suggested that it will feature dual rear cameras with 12MP + 8MP sensors, but did not say anything about the front-camera. The hands-on video also mentioned 12MP+8MP setup on the back, and it claimed that on the the front is an 8MP sensor. The phone is still seen (in video) having a microUSB port at the bottom. There are different claims on the battery capacity, while the TENAA listing says it’s a 3900mAh battery, the the video claims it to have a 4000mAh pack.
