While Xiaomi has been launching phones under its independent sub-brand Redmi in India, no Mi branded phone has been announced in India for quite some time. The last one to be launched by the company was the Mi A2, Xioami’s second Android One phone with stock Android OS and this was last year in August. Now, the company is gearing up to launch a new Mi phone in the India. The company’s Global VP and India MD, Manu Kumar Jain, has teased an upcoming launch on Twitter. The company executive tweeted the news saying, “ A new #Xiaomi phone with latest #Snapdragon 7_ _ (announced just 2 weeks ago) is coming to India very soon! Any guesses?”
Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 730 and 730G processors a couple of weeks ago. While Jain is most likely hinting towards one of these two processors, there’s no info on which phone would the processor be equipped with. We would have speculated that the Mi A3 could be on its way with the new SoC, however, the company is establishing a track record of launching the Mi A series of phones in August-September in India. We can expect more details about the mysterious handset to be revealed as we near its launch.
As for the Snapdragon 730 and 730G processors, both the chips were announced on April 9, 2019. The Snapdragon 730 is built on 8nm fabrication processor and features Kryo 470 Octa-core CPU, along with Adreno 618 GPU. It comes with triple camera setup support that can handle a single 48MP sensor, along with multi-frame noise reduction. It employs the fourth gen Qualcomm AI engine, support for Apt-X adaptive codec, is Wi-Fi 6 ready, and is capable of supporting 4K video recording at 60 fps, in portrait mode.
The Snapdragon 730G platform is not that different from the Snapdragon 730 SoC. The new chip is aimed at delivering optimised performance for gaming and comes equipped with “snapdragon elite gaming” features. These features include support for HDR gaming and are touted to deliver a 35 percent performance increase and 25 percent faster graphics processing.
