Asus has confirmed that it is launching the Zenfone 6 on May 16. The development confirms the previously available information about the launch date of the phone, however, there are still doubts on the venue of the event. During MWC, tech news platform Lowyat spotted an ad in a magazine which showed that the phone will launch in Valencia, Spain. The company has hinted that the unveiling could happen in Europe because it has given the launch time in Central European Summer Time (CEST).
Asus has shared an image on its official Instagram account showing a silhouette of a phone with no notch. This could mean that Asus may also jump on the pop-up selfie camera bandwagon. If true, the Zenfone 6 will be the first offering from the Taiwanese tech giant sporting this design. Further, the image also shows an earpiece suggesting that the phone will not use the display for sound - a technology that several OEMs are using to get a near edge-to-edge display design.
The Zenfone 6 will be successor to last year’s flagship Zenfone 5Z that was launched last year, so it is possible that it will come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor. The Zenfone 5Z was launched with a 6GB RAM and 64GB storage base model, and went up to 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage variant. As mentioned earlier, it is powered by the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 mobile platform. The Asus Zenfone 5Z sports a 6.2-inch full-HD+ LCD screen with a 19:9 display aspect ratio.
In terms of optics, the smartphone is equipped with a 12MP + 8MP dual-rear cameras with a f/1.8 and a f/2.2 aperture lens respectively. On the front, it sports an 8MP sensor with f/2.0 aperture lens and 84-degree field of view. Both the front and rear cameras support EIS as well. It is backed by a 3300mAh battery that supports Qualcomm’s QuickCharge 3.0 for faster charging.
