Valve Steam Link app launched for iPhones, iPads and Apple TV

Last month, Steam rolled out the in-home streaming option (now called Remote Play) to its Steam Link app in beta on Android. The feature finally enabled users to stream games from their computer, on to their handheld Android devices anywhere, especially when the two systems were not connected to the same Wi-Fi network. The Steam Link app and the Remote Play feature is now rolling out on iOS and will be available for iPhones and iPads running iOS 10 or higher and on the Apple TV. It was not made available previously on iOS since the app has in-app purchase options to buy games and content directly from Steam, which meant Apple loses out on its 30 percent cut of in-app purchases.

Remote Play enables users to directly stream a game on their handheld device, as long as the system being streamed from and the device streaming the gameplay have good internet connectivity. Steam also renamed the In-Home Streaming settings to Remote Play settings and paired Stream Link devices show up under the new settings option. One can enrol in Remote Play beta by logging into their Steam Client on PC and navigating to settings > Account > Beta Participation. Users could encounter some bugs since the option is in beta and  the app experience may a bit glitchy.

The latest Steam Client Beta update was released on May 15 and it brought a slew of new upgrades for the app. As per the changelog, the Steam Link app is also available for Raspberry Pi. Additionally, there are a number of fixes included in the update. Notable ones being bug fixes such as the Big Picture in-game overlay, which could be weirdly pixelated for titles that run on Vulkan graphics API, fixing mouse cursor intermittently disappearing while hovering it over certain windows, fixed certain keyboard events and more. Steam input will configurations will now be downloaded while installing a game and a bug causing game’s official configurations to disappear from the configuration browser has also been fixed.
