PUBG Mobile is now the worlds highest grossing video game

PUBG Mobile has been declared as the world’s highest grossing video game. With over 100 million active players across the world, the Tencent-owned Battle Royale game has raked in $146 million in revenues last month, according to analyst figures reported by The Financial Times.

Most of the revenues come in the form in-game purchases. Players buy skins and costumes to customise their in-game avataar. The report claimed the money came in not just from in-game purchases of skins but also from the money spent in the game’s China-only rebrand, Game For Peace, which was released after the Chinese government banned PUBG Mobile.

Based on figures released by Great Wall Securities, a Chinese brokerage firm, PUBG Mobile raked in $76 million while the China-only 'Game For Peace' earned $70 million.

The impressive earnings of the game came despite difficulties faced by the game both in India, China and other countries. The Chinese government stopped PUBG Mobile from being monetised. So Tencent launched a less-violent, more patriotic game with less bloodshed. In the game, when the player is eliminated, he gets up and waves goodbye instead of dying in a pool of blood.

The game was also asked to set daily limits for players below 18, and these reasons made analysts worry PUBG Mobile would lose its momentum. Well, based on the earnings the game made last month and its sheer popularity on app stores across the world, the craze doesn’t seem likely to die down anytime soon.
