The telecom wars are now heating up with Airtel and Vodafone revamping their respective prepaid options to offer more data. Airtel has refreshed its long term prepaid recharge priced at Rs 1,699 to offer 1.4GB data per day, instead of 1GB. The plan still comes with a 365-day validity and offers unlimited calling, along with 100 SMS messages per day and some additional benefits. This comes soon after Vodafone revamped its Rs 129 prepaid plan to credit 2GB of data per day for 28 days. This short-term recharge takes on Airtel’s previously announced Rs 129 pack that also offers 2GB daily data for a month.
The refreshed Rs 1,699 prepaid plan by Airtel takes on Vodafone’s offering that is priced the same. However, Vodafone offers 1GB data per day with its recharge, which is valid for 365 days. Additionally, the Airtel recharge also offers a free subscription to Airtel TV's Premium services, like free access to ZEE5, HOOQ, Norton, along with Wynk Music and cashback of up to Rs 2,000 when buying a new 4G phone. Coming to Vodafone’s Rs 129 prepaid plan, the refreshed prepaid option now comes with 2GB data, up from the previous 1.5GB data. It also offers unlimited calling, along with 100 SMS messages per day.
Now that Airtel is nearing Jio in terms of data volume, it remains to be seen what the latter telecom operator does. Jio has a long-term prepaid plan priced at Rs 1,699, which has a 365-day validity and offers 1.5GB daily data with unlimited calling, 100 SMS messages and complimentary subscription to Jio’s suite of apps. Additionally, the Rs 129 recharge by Vodafone now goes up against Jio’s Rs 149 prepaid plan that credits 1.5GB daily data, offers unlimited calling and 100 SMS messages per day with a 28-day validity.
