Custom Radeon RX 5700 series graphics cards will arrive in August

AMD recently launched its Radeon 5700 and Radeon 5700XT (review) graphics cards and one of the biggest questions on many peoples’ mind was whether there will be custom cards from OEMs. In a detailed post on Reddit, AMD has confirmed that the Radeon 5700 will get custom designs from OEMs, which will be released sometime in August.

The current Navi based AMD cards use a blower style design for cooling, a decision that was apparently made to ensure parity between the numbers reported by the company and those noted by reviewers. “The Radeon group historically has had a bad reputation of producing product launch charts that didn’t match up to real world performance. Love it or hate it the blower allowed us to guarantee performance in every system to match our launch charts. Not everyone cools their PC as good as a reviewer and definitely not as good as some of the pictures you guys have shared. It was my goal to clean all of this up so that you can trust our performance you hear from us on stage," AMD's Scott Herkelman stated.

With this, we can expect to see Radeon 5700 cards with double or even triple fan setup with custom cooling solutions under the shroud. Better cooling solution would allow enthusiasts to squeeze out just a bit more out of the Navi-based GPUs, but it is perplexing as to why AMD would not synchronise the release of their current and custom cards at the same time. Regardless, it is nice to see more options coming out in the near future and given the kind of performance we’ve seen from the Radeon 5700 XT, we cannot wait to see what the custom cards will be able to do.
