Xiaomi is all set to launch the Redmi 7A smartphone in India on July 4. However, the company’s Global VP and India MD, Manu Kumar Jain, has now confirmed a key spec of the phone ahead of its official reveal. On July 1, the company executive posted an image on Twitter asking users to guess the processor on the Redmi 7A. One of his followers on the platform guessed that the chip could be the Snapdragon 625 and in a reply, Jain has confirmed that while it won’t be the Snapdragon 625, the Redmi 7A will be announced on the relatively newer Snapdragon 730 SoC. This will make the Redmi 7A the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 730 Octa-core chipset in India.
The Snapdragon 730 processor was announced alongside the Snapdragon 730G on April 9, 2019. It is built on the 8nm fabrication process. It features a Kryo 470 Octa-core CPU paired with an Adreno 618 GPU. The chipset comes with a triple camera setup support and can handle a single 48MP sensor. It gets a fourth gen Qualcomm AI engine, Apt-X adaptive codec, Wi-Fi 6 support, and 4K video recording at 60fps.
The Redmi A series of handsets are usually less powerful, entry-level handsets that are aimed at people who are transitioning from feature phones to smartphones. While the choice of processor by the company is surely unusual, it is not entirely surprising since it had previously teased that a new phone running on Snapdragon 730 or 730G will be launched in India soon. However, it remains to be seen how the choice of processor affects the phone’s pricing since the Redmi 5A runs on the Snapdragon 425 SoC and is priced starting at Rs 5,999.

The handset has already been announced in China running on the Snapdragon 439 SoC. In India, it will be made available via Flipkart. The Redmi 7A features a 5.45-inch HD display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and a 1440x720 pixel resolution. It is expected to run on Android 9 Pie with MIUI 10 on top and come equipped with a 4000mAh battery that supports 10W charging.
