Microsoft Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop, ARM-powered Surface renders leak ahead of launch
Microsoft will be hosting a launch event tomorrow, on October 2. The company is expected to release the 2019 Surfaces devices. However, the renders of Surface devices have appeared online, thanks to the popular tipster Evan Blass. He has posted a series of images on his Twitter account, which gives us a look at Surface Pro 7, Surface Laptop (both 13-inch and 15-inch), and an ARM-powered Surface device. Blass has also mentioned the presence of a dual-screen Surface in one of his tweets.
Microsoft is expected to announce the Surface Laptop 3, Surface Pro 7, and an ARM-powered Surface 2-in-1 device. Surface Laptop 3 is speculated to be launched with a spec bump. On the hardware front, seems to sport the same design as its predecessor. The images haven’t given out a lot of information about the number of ports available on the Surface Laptop 3. However, it is expected to include a USB-C port.
Coming to the Surface Pro 7, it looks like the device will sport a USB-C port instead of the Mini DisplayPort this time around. Surface fans have been requesting this inclusion for a long time. Surface Pro 7 is rumoured to be powered by the Intel 10th Gen processors. In the hardware department, it looks like it will have the same design as the Pro 6.
A new device is tipped to join the Surface family. An ARM-powered Surface 2-in-1 has appeared in images. It has a sleek design, with narrower bezels than the current Surface Pro 6. It seems to have a rounder and thinner chassis. A new Surface Pen can also be spotted in the leaked image. It seems to have a flat design on two sides.
Interestingly, Blass didn’t mention a Surface Book 3 in any of his tweets. Microsoft may not be planning to upgrade the higher end 2-in-1. On the other hand, Microsoft could also tease the Centaurus at the event tomorrow - a dual-screen foldable tablet/laptop.

India missing from leaked list of countries where Google Pixel 4s Motion Sense capabilities may work
One of the officially outed ipieces of nformation about the upcoming Google Pixel 4 is that the handset will support motion gestures. The company will be integrating the Soli Radar chip on the Pixel 4 series of phones so that they can track a user’s hand gestures and execute a task that’s assigned to that particular gesture. While we previously came across a report that claimed this feature would work only in select countries, 9to5Google claims that it was able to get its hands on a pre-release APK of Motion Sense, which reveals 38 regions and 9 media apps could support the feature.
Soon after, XDA Developers also reported of finding a more comprehensive list of countries where the option could be made available. This list reveals 53 regions and 23 media apps that support Motion Sense. While some countries like Canada, UK, Australia and the US are present on the list, India is surprisingly missing. However, the list of 23 media apps that will support Motion Sense includes apps like Wynk Music, Gaana, Hungama, and JioSaavn among others. These apps are widely used in India and the inclusion of these apps suggests that the company might be planning to bring Motion Sense support for the Pixel 4 handsets that would be sold in India.
As for the new Soli Radar chip Google is using on its Pixel 4 series of phones, ášhe hardware enables one to use gestures for conášroling the device’s functions. Skipping tracks while listening to music, accepting or rejecting calls and snoozing alarms by simply waving your hand over the device. The sensor is said to be capable of detecting sub-millimeter motion gestures at high speeds and that too, with notable accuracy.
Coming to the Pixel phones, the Pixel 4 will reportedly feature a 5.7-inch Full HD+ OLED display while the Pixel 4 XL might get a 6.3-inch Quad HD+ OLED display. The handsets might support 90Hz display refresh rate that Google is reportedly dubbing “Smooth Display". The phones are expected to run on Snapdragon 855+ SoC and might come equipped with 6GB RAM.

AMD Ryzen 3000 series has a processor for everyone
For the longest time, Intel has enjoyed a monopoly of sorts when it comes to Laptop processors. The few AMD powered machines we did see were mostly grossly underpowered laptops, usually created with the sole aim of making the machine affordable. Advanced Micro Devices or AMD as we all have come to know the company has fast pivoted from that state of things. AMD’s Ryzen processors have quickly been gaining favour with OEMs and customers alike. This has allowed AMD’s chips to infiltrate more segments than before.
AMD for the budget consciousAMD’s Ryzen 3000 series processors have found their way into many budget friendly laptops in the market. Lenovo’s Ideapad S145 with the AMD Ryzen 3 3200U processor can be picked up for under Rs 30,000, depending on where you buy it.
AMD for thin and lightThe advantage of the new AMD Ryzen 3000 series processors has been their low TDP and excellent thermal management, allowing OEMs to pack more powerful components into thinner and thinner chassis. While these laptops aren’t ultrabooks by any shot, they are still slim and light enough to not pose as a burden in case you have lots of travel coming up. The Asus Vivobook 14 measures just 0.7 inches in thickess, with a total weight of 1.5 kilograms, and it packs the AMD Ryzen 5 3500U processor. That’s 4 cores with 8 threads in a chassis so thin.
AMD for the GamerAMD’s Ryzen processors can be found on many laptops, but one area where we are most excited to see these chips is in gaming laptops. Laptops like the Asus TUF FX505 employ the Ryzen 5 3550H processor along with discrete graphics to be able to drive the 120Hz panel on the laptop. That’s already quite a decent specification set, but Asus also sells an SKU with the Ryzen 7 3750H, in case you needed more horse power from the CPU. There's also the Asus ROG Zephyrus G GA502 which is also a Ryzen powered laptop, and is part of Asus's elite ROG brand.
AMD for EveryoneIn a space that was traditionally dominated by Team Blue, AMD is making great strides and breaking a lot of stereotypes. The company’s new third generation Ryzen processors are making their way into most of the popular categories of laptops, given their wide variety of features, all the while keeping battery impact and thermal in mind. And if you look close enough, you realise that the AMD powered laptops are slightly cheaper than their Intel counterparts, meaning you get to save some money as well!

India is an essential market for OnePlus. The company recently launched the OnePlus TV and OnePlus 7T here. OnePlus' transition from an affordable flagship to a premium-tier smartphone brand has made it popular in the country. OnePlus is introducing Smart SMS to OxygenOS for an enhanced messaging experience. It will automatically categorize all messages, and perform quick actions like calling delivery boys or copying OTP codes. This includes bills, bank messages, tickets and more.

It is all done locally without an internet connection. Moreover, the company is giving users 5GB of free storage and an additional 50GB for free for the first year.
OnePlus hasn’t yet disclosed when these features would be rolling out. However, we are expecting them to roll out with OxygenOS 10 in the coming months.

Moto may launch its foldable smartphone as the new Razr
The year 2019 has been all about the foldable smartphones, with Samsung and Huawei creating quite a buzz around their devices. During the Mobile World Congress this year, there were a number of other OEMs that also expressed the intent to launch foldable devices, Motorola not being one of them. However, according to a report by CNET, it appears that Motorola may be gearing up to reveal its foldable smartphone, the Razr, before the end of this year.
Motorola has allegedly been working on a secretive foldable smartphone for quiet some time now. The company had even filed a patent back in 2017 for a foldable smartphone which showed that Moto’s device would follow a design that is similar to the older Razr phone and not that of the newer ones by Samsung or Huawei.
According to CNET, Motorola may not sell the phone this year, but the plan is to atleast reveal the device to the world before the year 2020 begins. Rumours of Motorola bringing back the Razr brand have been circulating for quiet some time, but this is the first time we’re hearing the Razr being Moto’s foldable smartphone. According to XDA who had earlier revelaed the possible specs of the device, the Razr could come packing a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 or a Snapdragon 710, along with 4/6GB of RAM and a 6.2 inch OLED display that would fold vertically, just like the original Razr used to.
As of now, various companies have shown off working prototypes of foldable smartphones. Samsung is expected to finally ship the Galaxy Fold to customers, while Huawei’s Mate X missed its original launch timeline, with no word on when the company would start shipping devices. TCL had also shown off various working prototypes of foldable smartphones at MWC 2019, with the goal of providing the people with affordable, foldable smartphones. Hopefully, Moto can follow up the big reveal with actual devices being available in the market.

Honor V30 surfaces with dual selfie cameras in pill-shaped punch hole
The upcoming Honor flagship smartphone has reportedly surfaced online. The Honor V30 is said to debut with the Kirin 990 5G. However, the company is rumoured to release two variants of the Honor V30: a 5G and a non-5G model, both powered by the Kirin 990 chipset. While the launch date of the upcoming flagship smartphone is still unknown, a photo of the device is said to have emerged on Weibo, showing the display of Honor V30.
If the image is to be believed, the Honor V30 may have very thin bezels. Additionally, the device seems to have a pill-shape punch-hole display with space for two front cameras. The notch resembles that of the Samsung Galaxy S10+. However, the position of pill-shaped notch is different from Samsung’s take. The Honor v30 may sport the notch on the top-left corner of the display.
While the alleged Honor V30 image shows thin bezels, there’s a chin present, which is thicker than the bezels. Not many details are known about the Honor V30 at the moment, however, it is expected to feature an AMOLED display. Since it is a flagship smartphone, it may come with an in-display fingerprint scanner as well.
The Honor V30 is likely to sport a triple or even a quad rear camera setup. It could also come with features like ultra slow-motion video recording similar to the one found on Huawei P30 Pro. Other expected features include 8GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Last year’s Honor flagship smartphone, the Honor V20 was launched in December. If the company decides to keep that schedule, then we could expect to see the V30 in a couple of months.

WhatsApp will end support partially for iOS 8 from February 2020
While popular messaging platform WhatsApp last updated its blog post regarding WhatsApp app support on mobile devices in May, it later added new information to its FAQ page, which now talks about a partial end of support for iOS 8. In other words, WhatsApp won’t allow account verification on iOS 8 devices after February 1, 2020. This will affect WhatsApp users who have not updated their iPhones to iOS 9 since its release in September 2015.
While WhatsApp’s blog post update from May this year reads, “You won't be able to use WhatsApp on the following platforms for: iPhone iOS 7 and older after February 1, 2020”, its FAQ page now says that on iOS 8 and older versions, “you can no longer create new accounts, nor reverify existing accounts.” It also adds, “You'll no longer be able to use all Windows Phone operating systems after December 31, 2019, and WhatsApp might not be available in the Microsoft Store after July 1, 2019.”
What this means is that if you’re using WhatsApp on iOS 8, you won’t be able to delete your account and re-register on the same device on or after February 1, 2020. You also won’t be able to perform new registrations on the device after that specified date. To get full support for WhatsApp, consider upgrading to iOS 9 or later. The current version of Apple’s mobile operating system is iOS 13.1, which the Cupertino-based company rolled out to its supported list of iOS devices a few days ago. You can read more about iOS 13 here.
If you’re still on iOS 8 on your iPhone, it’s likely you own one of the following models: iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 6, or iPhone 6 Plus. All of these models can be upgraded to a newer version of iOS, which you can begin to do by heading to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone. To update your iPhone, you’ll want to plug it into a wall outlet and connect to a steady Wi-Fi network. You’ll also need up to 4GB of free space on your iPhone to perform an update to the latest version of iOS.

Google Pixel 4s sound recorder app now available for free download
As we inch closer to the official launch of Google’s upcoming flagship smartphone, details about the Google Pixel 4 are leaking out of every tiny crevice in the internet. In one such leak, the sound recorder app that’s said to be pre-installed on the Pixel 4 was found available for free download on the popular online app library, APKMirror. Weighing in at a piddly 2.84MB, the app is named quite simply Google Recorder. You can get your hands on it here.
Even though the new Google Recorder app is not yet available for official download via the Google Play Store, you can always download the installer (APK) file from APKMirror and sideload it on your Android device. To do that, you have to find the ‘Download APK’ button on the web page and click on it. When the download is done, open the installer file. You may be asked to give extra permissions on your device because it’s an external install. Note that the app may not work on some devices owing to compatibility issues.
When the installation’s over, find an app named Recorder on your device’s app drawer and click on it. To get started, you will of course have to grant the app permission to use the device’s microphones. To record, just hit the big red button at the bottom of the screen. After that, you can either pause or stop recording, and then add a title to your masterpeice. Of course, you can always share, rename, and replay your recordings at any time. Fortunately, the app continues to record even when the device’s screen is turned off.
Visiting Settings by clicking on the More icon on the top-right corner reveals an option to select the app’s visual theme. You can go with either Light, Dark, or System Default, which, according to XDA Developers, respects the system-wide dark mode setting chosen in Android 10. The Google Recorder app is expected to come pre-installed on Google’s upcoming Pixel 4. Google has yet to make the app available on the Google Play Store.

YouTube Music to come pre-installed on devices running Android 9+
YouTube Music has gradually been gaining popularity among smartphone users in India ever since the service was released for the first time in the country in March this year. According to an official YouTube blog post published by Google yesterday, the YouTube Music app will come pre-installed on new smartphones running Android 9 or later. Users who do not find the app pre-installed on their Android smartphone can always head to the Google Play Store to download it.
“Music fans on Android phones can now easily unlock the magic of YouTube Music, which will come installed on all new devices launching with Android 10 (and Android 9), including the Pixel series,” writes Google in its recent blog post. It’s evident that Google is now slowly shifting its focus from Google Play Music to YouTube Music for bundled music playback on Android smartphones. In fact, devices running Android 10 won’t have the Google Play Music app pre-installed but users can always get it from the Play Store.
According to an article published by 9to5Google, the Californian tech giant has been working towards replacing Google Play Music with YouTube Music on Android devices for about a year now. By taking its place as the default audio player for Android, YouTube Music inherits features such as offline music file playback from Google Play Music. We can expect Google to phase out Google Play Music completely in the coming months.
Google introduced YouTube Music and YouTube Premium services in India earlier this year at a starting price of Rs 99 per month. Both services have an optional paid subscription plan, which allows the user to listen to music (or play videos on YouTube) ad-free, download tunes locally, and play music on their devices with the screen turned off. In addition, YouTube Premium—which was previously known as YouTube Red—offers access to a list of original films and mini-series called YouTube Originals.

Xiaomi quietly launches IP55-rated Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker
Just a couple of days after announcing the Mi Mix Alpha 5G concept smartphone in Beijing, Xiaomi has launched a portable Bluetooth speaker called the Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker in China. The news of the phone maker’s most recent launch comes in the form of a report filed by Chinese tech website ITHome. Xiaomi’s new portable speaker costs 199 Chinese Yuan, which approximately translates to Rs 1,977. It is currently available for purchase from Xiaomi’s official stores.
According to ITHome’s report, the new Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker features a 52mm speaker driver on the inside and Bluetooth 5.0, which is the latest version of the wireless radio standard. Made of soft plastic and covered in seamless fabric, the speaker also comes with dual microphones for noise cancellation during calls. The inbuilt 2600mAh battery has a claimed battery life of 8 hours of continuous music playback and charges through a USB Type-C port on the speaker.
The report also says that the Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker is IP55-rated for water- and dust-resistance. There’s no mention of whether the speaker can float in water, an ability many new outdoor water-resistant speakers possess. We know that a couple of months ago, the speaker was spotted on the Bluetooth SIG website for Bluetooth 5.0 certification. Since then, the launch of the Mi Outdoor Bluetooth Speaker has been anticipated . That said, we still don’t know when or if Xiaomi will launch the product in India.
In related news, Xiaomi announced earlier this week a 5G concept smartphone called the Mi Mix Alpha. The device features a wraparound display on all its four sides, leaving only a thin ceramic strip running across its back for the camera sensors. Soon after the announcement, Xiaomi published camera samples taken through the device’s primary 108MP sensor on Twitter. You can read more about the Xiaomi Mi Mix Alpha here.

Google Play Store reportedly failed to detect 29 malicious apps that had over 10 million collective downloads
It’s not easy managing the Google Play Store as thousands of apps are daily uploaded on the platform for approval and review. As per Statistica, over 6,140 mobile apps were released every day through the Google Play Store between Q3 2016 to Q1 2018 and the numbers have most likely gone up even more since then. Even though these numbers are high, that doesn’t mean that the Google Play team can skimp on observing tighter control over uploaded apps and their behaviour since Apple manages to do the same just fine. Quick Heal Security Labs has now reported 29 malicious apps on the Google Play Store that collectively sported over 10 million downloads.
Twenty four of the 29 apps are HiddAd Apps, which install a shortcut on the home screen and hide their app icons after first boot so that users have trouble uninstalling them. When the shortcut is launched, these apps display intrusive full-screen ads and some of them can do the same even when not being run in the foreground. So, if your phone was showing pop-up ads out of the blue, one of these apps might be to blame. As per the report, most of the reported apps were classified under ‘Photography’ category.
The remaining five apps were Adware that would sneak into an Android device via absurd advertisements that are run on social media sites like YouTube, Facebook and others. Associate Security Researcher at Quick Heal, Digvijay Mane, notes, “Many a times, these promoted mobile applications boast about a lot of unbelievable functionalities like X-Ray scanning. We came across few advertisements of some interesting Android Apps which claim to offer functionality of X-ray scanning. When we explored the App further, we found out that two such apps have crossed 1 million + downloads already.”
While Google removed these malicious apps from the Play Store once they were reported, it begs the question, how they flew under the company’s radar for such a long time. Quick Heal also notes that users duped by these apps left scathing reviews but it seems like even that wasn’t enough to draw Google’s attention.
While we might sound harsh, it should be noted that this is not the first time such a case has been highlighted. In June this year, researchers from the University of Sydney and independent Australian federal government agency CSIRO’s Data61 came across 2040 malware-laden counterfeit apps on the Google Play Store. While back in December 2019, Google used machine-learning backed anti-spam system to delete dubious reviews and thousands of shady apps from the Play Store, it seems like its efforts to keep the Play Store free of malware-laden apps have again dwindled.

OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Series with 55-inch QLED display, custom Gamma Color Chip launched in India: Price, specs and all you need to know
OnePlus has finally thrown its hat in the ring, foraying into the smart TV segment by announcing the OnePlus TV 55 Q1 series of televisions. While OnePlus was teasing just one TV for some time now, it went ahead and announced two TVs in its 55 Q1 Series. The OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro is the top-end model while there’s a more affordable OnePlus TV 55 Q1 behind it. Both OnePlus TVs feature a 55-inch 4K QLED panel with a 95.7 percent screen-to-body ratio, however, only the Q1 Pro gets an integrated sliding soundbar. So, without further ado, here’s all you need to know about the new OnePlus TVs.
OnePlus TV 55 Q1 and Q1 Pro specificationsThe top model of the lot is the OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro, which is a 55-inch 4K QLED TV with a 95.7 percent screen-to-body ratio and an in-built sliding soundbar. The OnePlus Q1 also gets all the same features but doesn’t ship with a soundbar. OnePlus boasts that its TVs covers 96 percent of the DCIP-3 and 120 percent of the NTSC colour gamut. This is all thanks to the Gamma Color Magic chip that they come equipped with as it enables a host of features like Super Resolution, Contrast Enhancement, Noise Reduction, MEMC, De-Contour, Dolby Vision, Colour Brightening and Colour Enhancement to deliver a more ‘vivid and smooth’ experience.
The Q1 Pro features eight speakers that have a total power output of 50W and six of the speakers are forward-facing while two 20W speakers face backwards. On the standard Q1, there are a total of four speakers that have a 50W total power output. Both TVs support Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD and Dolby Digital Plus audio. The back panel of the TVs feature a carbon fibre finish and a magnetic cover that snaps over the I/O ports. Alongside stock Android TV OS, the company offers OxygenPlay UI on the OnePlus TV. There’s also a OnePlus Connect feature that enables users to connect their smartphones and control the TV via an app.
The TVs will receive updates for three years and Netflix support will arrive sometime later this year. Connectivity options on the TVs include 2.4 GHz/5 GHz 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, one ethernet and four HDMI ports, one AC input, one digital audio output and three USB ports, out of which, one is a USB Type-C, the other a USB 3.0 and finally, a USB 2.1 port thrown in for good measure.
OnePlus TV priceThe OnePlus TV 55 Q1 Pro is priced at Rs 99,900 while the standard Q1 costs Rs 69,990. The new OnePlus TV series will be available for purchase from September 28 via Amazon.

The next Samsung Galaxy Fold could launch worldwide and cost less than its predecessor
After the disastrous launch of the first version of the Galaxy Fold, Samsung went back to the drawing board and have now relaunched the phone on September 6 to much better reviews. The first model did not meet expectations and a few units that were shipped to reviewers had malfunctioned and had to be recalled. The latest model has made a successful comeback and is selling out in markets where the phone has already been launched. The Galaxy Fold will now go on sale in the US from September 27 onwards.
Clearly, Samsung have released the Galaxy Fold in select markets, but in a recent report by SamMobile, it looks like the successor of the Galaxy Fold will see a wider release. Ideally, markets like the US or even China are huge and important markets for the Korean tech giant. As of right now, Samsung only sells the Galaxy Fold in select markets, in limited quantities. So, this goes to show that the company is serious about the Fold and plan to make it a part of their diverse line of devices.
Bearing the model number SM-F700F, the next iteration of the Galaxy Fold may also be more affordable as well. Clearly,a lower price tag will help boost the device’s popularity with the masses. To help keep the price down, the device is tipped to feature 256GB internal storage instead of 512GB on the Galaxy Fold. The Korean giant could also shrink the screen size to save costs.
The Galaxy Fold could cost somewhere between Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1.75 lakh in India. As reported earlier, the Galaxy Fold will be launching in India on October 1. The phone will be sold via retail outlets and will be made available only via pre-booking.
