Oppo could be looking to join the likes of Apple, Samsung and Huawei in manufacturing an in-house chipset. The company has been spending a lot on research and development lately. Hence, this piece of information is likely to be true. Oppo’s own mobile processor could be called the “Oppo M1.” The Chinese phone manufacturer has reportedly filed a trademark application on November 20 at the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO). The description of the trademark says it is for or related to a mobile processor.
Oppo is reported to have approached engineers from Unisoc (Spreadtrum) and MediaTek. The trademark filing was first reported by LetsGoDigital. The website claims that Oppo may reveal details about the M1 mobile processor at MWC 2020. If not, the company could also announce the Oppo M1 at next year’s edition of Semicon China scheduled to be held in March. However, the Oppo M1 mobile processor could be launched later in the year, during the Mobile World Congress, Shanghai.
Oppo’s entry into the chip business is expected to bring big changes to its mobile phones since an in-house chip can ensure better communication between the company’s products. Oppo recently revealed ColorOS 7 in China. The Android 10-based Oppo OS will be unveiled in India on November 26. ColorOS 7 also brings obvious features such as an improved system performance, and a feature called Beauty Mode 2.0.
ColorOS 7 comes with a new modern UI, which is said to be cleaner with visually comfortable colour tones. The new OS also brings the option to customise app icons including the shape and size. It also brings a system-wide dark mode and new Art+ Wallpapers that aren't just live but also animate based on fingertip touches.
