Huawei P40, P40 Pro leaked renders show curved display, quad-cameras and more

The Huawei P40 has been confirmed to be launched in March 2020 by Huawei CEO Richard Yu. It’s expected the phone will run on Android 10, but because of the ban on doing business with U.S. companies, Huawei will be shipping the phone with its own Huawei Mobile Services (HMS) instead of Google Mobile Services (GMS). The company did the same with the Mate 30 series that it announced earlier and, going forward, it is likely to do the same till the U.S debacle is solved. But that’s just the software part. The P-series smartphones from Huawei has been known to push the envelope, especially in imaging. And we’re curious as to what Huawei will introduce in the P40 series. Thankfully, we now have leaked renders to guess thanks to OnLeaks and 91Mobiles.

The leaks show two devices from the lineup — the Huawei P40 and the P40 Pro. The camera sensors are housed in a rectangular module at the back and we could count as many as four cameras in the Huawei P40. The number of cameras on the P40 Pro is still unknown but previous rumours tip the P40 Pro will have a Sony IMX686 64MP camera sensor in tow along with a 20MP wide-angle camera and 12MP zoom lens. Both phones show curved edges and a glass exterior.

The Huawei P40 Pro rock a curved display that could be either 6.5 or 6.7 inches while the P40 will have a flat panel measuring 6.1 to 6.2 inches. Interestingly, the corner edges rise up covering the display, perhaps for added durability. Going by the previous P30 Pro, we expect Huawei to offer OLED panels and feature in-display fingerprint sensors.

As for other things go, the P40 and the P40 Pro sport USB-C ports, bottom-firing speakers, and power and volume rockers on the right side. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack. The P40 Pro is said to come with a massive 5500mAh battery with 50W SuperCharge fast charging, and will be powered by the Kirin 990 SoC. The most important thing to know about the devices, however, is that they won’t support Google apps like Gmail, Google Maps, Google Translate and the like.

We expect the P40 series to pack some stellar hardware, but whether they will see a successful uptake by consumers outside China will have to be seen once the phone is launched in March.
