Apple iPhone 12 may be as powerful as iPad Pro thanks to A14 chipset: Report

Apple’s chipsets are known to be pretty powerful, but its upcoming A14 chipset just might take the cake. According to a report by Apple Insider, the new chipset was spotted on Geekbench and maybe just as fast as the A12X chipset used in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It also suggests that the new chipset may be the fist A-series chipset to cross the 3.0GHz mark in terms of clock speed.

As per the Geekbench listing posted by Apple Insider, the new A14 chipset is tipped to score 1,658 on the single-core test, and 4,612  on the multi-core test. By comparison, the A12X on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro scored 1,110 on the single-core and 4,568 on the multi-core test. Apple’s newest smartphone, the iPhone 11 Pro Max packs the A13 Bionic chipset and had a single-core score of 1,330 points.

The new chipset is expected to be manufactured using TSMCs new 5nm process. Apple is also expected to use LPDDR5 RAM, which is already in use by many flagship smartphones. There are also reports of an ARM-powered Mac that is doing rounds and there is a possibility that the Mac might be powered by the A14 chipset.

The name of the next generation of iPhone’s is still not confirmed by expected them to be known as iPhone 12. As one might expect details about the new phones have already started to leak out and reports suggest that Apple may be planning to switch to a 64MP large-format sensor for the primary camera. This would be a pretty big jump from the 12MP sensor currently utilised by the iPhone 11 Pro. Apple is also expected to increase the camera’s aperture size from f/1.8 to f/1.6. Reports also suggest that Apple may even start offering a display with a 120Hz refresh rate in its new phones.
