Facebook brings Quiet Time to iOS app, Android to get the update in May

Facebook is introducing a Quiet mode to its main app, which will silence push notifications system-wide. The company announced the feature on Thursday and said it will pause “most” of the push notifications the app sends. The company did, however, clarify that some notifications may be exempt from Quiet mode.

Quiet Mode on the Facebook app is essentially a “Do Not Disturb” option. You can set the Quiet Mode to turn on automatically at a pre-determined time or you can even turn it on manually on a particularly busy day. Enabling Quiet Mode will prevent Facebook from sending any push notifications to your screen. Now, at first glance, it might feel like a redundant feature when you take into account the Do Not Disturb setting on your phone, but it's actually not. Using Quiet Mode will not only prevent push notifications but also prevents any badges from showing up on the app’s icon. This effectively kills any distraction a Facebook notification would have been to you during that time. All the notifications that are withheld during the use of Quiet Mode will be delivered once you open the app

Facebook is rolling out Quiet Mode for iOS first, and users will be able to find it under the “Your Time on Facebook” option. Android users will get the update sometime in May. The update is part of Facebook's larger plan to tailor its services in light of the COVID-19 outbreak, which has put many people under lockdown.
