Facebook wants you to help your neighbours during coronavirus lockdown

Ever since the world has gone into quarantine, Facebook has seen an unprecedented surge in traffic. Now, to manage the traffic better and to make sure everyone has some sort of company while stuck at home, Facebook is encouraging users to help out their neighbours. Under the “Community Help” feature, Facebook is urging people to help others affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

A new update to the Facebook app will show up a new page where you can offer to help with things like getting groceries, arranging transport and volunteering for work for people affected by the coronavirus crisis.

Similarly, those looking for help can post about it on the app. You can also filter existing offers to find the one that matches what people need. The Community Help page will also show links to fundraisers where you can donate to and Facebook’s Coronavirus information centre.

The page opens up time to time when a natural disaster hits a country. It’s part of Facebook’s “crisis response tools”, but typically, the company has always kept it localised. The new hub will be rolling out to US, UK, Australia, Canada and France with more countries to be added in the coming weeks.
