Aarogya Setu app made mandatory for domestic air travel: Report

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly made it mandatory for passengers flying on domestic flights to have the Aarogya Setu app installed on their phones. According to a report by PTI, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to airport operators on Wednesday. This comes shortly after it was announced that domestic flights in India would resume from May 25 onwards.

The SOP has also reportedly instructed airport operators to make appropriate arrangements for sanitation of a passenger’s baggage before their entry into the terminal building. It should be noted that while AAI manages over 100 airports in the country, some major airports like the ones in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are operated by private companies.

Earlier this month, the Ministry for Railways had announced that the Aarogya Setu app was mandatory for passengers travelling via train. The app was also recently made available on the JioPhone.

The Indian government is also relaxing its stance on the app. A few days ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs released new guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown. Companies have been asked to ensure the installation of the app by employees on a “best effort basis”. Further, local authorities can now only “advise” people to install the app instead of forcing them to download it.
