WhatsApp to soon allow users to add contacts by scanning profile QR codes

WhatsApp will soon release an update that will let users of the popular instant messaging app add contacts by simply scanning a profile QR code. The latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android and iOS has added a new way for users to add contacts by scanning a QR code.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature is already live on the latest beta update of WhatsApp and users can spot the QR code icon beside their profile name. The new feature update, while minor in nature, can come in really handy for people who want to quickly add a person on WhatsApp who they’ve just met, without going through the current process of having to add the contact in the address book first.

Another instance where QR codes can be useful is for WhatsApp Business users who can add more people to their business profile in order to provide their services. WhatsApp had earlier hinted about the addition of QR codes and now the latest beta update has gone live with it, hinting at an imminent public rollout. Just recently, WhatsApp restored the video limit on vide status updates to 30 seconds after limiting it to 15 seconds back in March.

How to use WhatsApp profile QR codes to add new contacts?

The latest beta update of WhatsApp for Android and iOS brings in a new feature update that adds the support for QR codes in the instant messaging platform. While the feature is only available for beta users, it’s expected to be rolled out publicly in the coming weeks.

To check if you have the new QR code support on WhatsApp, go to the Settings menu. Here, you’ll notice a QR code icon beside your WhatsApp profile name. Tapping on the QR code will generate your personal QR code that you can then share with others so that they can add you to their WhatsApp contact list.

There is an option to scan QR codes in the same menu option so that you can also add contacts to your WhatsApp list. Additionally, users can also request WhatsApp to reset the QR code in case you share it with someone accidentally. WhatsApp is expected to roll out QR code support publically very soon.
