This is what Apples A14 RAM component for the iPhone 12 might look like

A photo of Apple's next-generation A14 chip or component has been making rounds online. The component in the image is said to be the RAM portion by Twitter user Mr White, who is a well-known leaker with a history of sharing accurate pictures and information about unreleased Apple products. He recently tweeted another image with a bunch of A14 chips stacked on top of one another.

The A14 chip will succeed the A13 Bionic, which is seen on the current-generation iPhone 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max and the compact iPhone SE. Apple A14 should ideally debut with the next-generation iPhone 12 series that is expected to launch in September.

The leaked image doesn't reveal much about the chipset or the RAM. It only has the name 'A14' and an alphanumeric series. Apple Insider reports that the number "2016" this particular chip in picture refers to the 16th week of 2020, which implies that the chip as manufactured in April 2020.

While Apple hasn't officially confirmed that TSMC will be making its upcoming chip, multiple sources have confirmed that TSMC is ready with their 5nm chipset that is set to debut with a device due in the fall, which is very likely to be the iPhone 12. TSMC told Phonearena that their 5nm technology is about 15% faster while using a full 30% lower power than the current 7nm node that is in the most powerful chipsets present - Snapdragon 865+ or Apple A13.

Leaked benchmark scores indicated that the chip might be twice as fast as the A12Z in the iPad Pro. As per the leaked Geekbench listing by Apple Insider, the new A14 chipset is tipped to score 1,658 on the single-core test, and 4,612 on the multi-core test. By comparison, the A12X on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro scored 1,110 on the single-core and 4,568 on the multi-core test. Apple's newest smartphone, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, packs the A13 Bionic chipset and had a single-core score of 1,330 points.

We look forward to the upcoming iPhone 12-series and especially the A14 Bionic, and how the company is planning to make the most out of that raw power.
