Garena Free Fire introduces new Elite Pass with the Celestial Street theme

Garena Free Fire has announced a new Elite Pass for the game. Called Celestial Street, the pass introduces new Celestial Street-themed rewards such as new skin sets. As with other Elite Passes, Celestial Streets theme as a story behind it, namely a tale of Damon and Celeste.

As per the company’s release, “the Celestial Street EP tells the story of Damon and Celeste, two friends who grew up across the street from one another but raised in different cultures and crews. Their parents tried to keep them apart to maintain the balance of power, but Damon and Celeste kept their relationship secret until she was chosen as the leader of the Celestials. Forced to break up, Damon grew envious of Celeste’s promotion while struggling to show his father he can be the leader of the Hellkin.”

The skins and outfits in Celestial Street are said to be inspired by the concept of contemporary samurai styles, while the lower half features a mechanical theme. The two factions also come with the own colour themes, Damon’s skins and outfits feature black and red colours, while Celeste’s outfits are yellow and white.

The rewards offered in the Elite Pass includes the Street Devil and Street Angel outfits worn by Damon and Celeste respectively. It also includes the Demon Fury loot box skin, the Celestial skateboard skin, the Demon Fury backpack skin and the Dust Off emote. Those who pre-ordered the Celestial Street EP between August 28 and August 31 will get a bonus in the form of the Golden Pan skin.

In related news, Garena Free Fire has also confirmed that it will be adding a new character based on Bollywood actor, Hritik Roshan. The new character is called Jai and while the company has not confirmed his in-game abilities, leaks suggest that it will be called ‘Furious Reload’ and will automatically reload the player’s weapon.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G debuting on an upcoming POCO smartphone is nearly identical to its predecessor

Qualcomm has announced the new Snapdragon 732G for its mid-range 7-series family of mobile chipsets. Going by the name, the Snapdragon 732G seems like an immediate successor to the Snapdragon 730G that has powered quite a few smartphones in India like the Realme X2, Poco X2 and the Samsung Galaxy A80. The Snapdragon 732G will also operate in the same segment, unlike the Snapdragon 765 SoC which is meant for high-end smartphones.

Qualcomm also confirmed that the Snapdragon 732G will debut on an upcoming POCO smartphone. Leak doing the rounds in the industry points to the Poco X3, and it sounds perfectly logical considering the previous Poco X2 (review) tasted good success by bringing the Snapdragon 730G at its affordable most price point in the beginning of 2020.

Debuting on the POCO X3?

"Since inception, POCO has been all about listening to user feedback and delivering exactly what they need,” said Manmohan Chandolu, General Manager, POCO India. “We’re thrilled to be working once again with Qualcomm Technologies to bring a sophisticated user experience for our users with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G Mobile Platform. We’re hoping all our fans, especially the gaming community, appreciate the offering.”

Well, the G in the Snapdragon 732G does stand for gaming, so it’s safe to assume this upcoming POCO smartphone will appeal to gamers, and try to stick to the under-20k segment. POCO has confirmed this smartphone will come with a 64MP camera, that will bin pixels 4-in-1 to output 16MP images, much like the POCO X2. Previously, a US FCC certification leak pointed to 33W fast charging support and a 120Hz display.

What’s new in the Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G?

Well, going by the press-note shared by Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 732G is more similar to the Snapdragon 730G that it is different. The SoC relies on the same Qualcomm Kryo 470 cores, with the only difference being that the prime core goes up to 2.3GHz instead of 2.2GHz. The Adreno 618 GPU is also the same as before, and so is the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem.

Qualcomm promises some Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, by virtue of the G in the name. That includes “seamless and ultra-realistic gameplay in over a billion shades of colour”.

The platform also uses Qualcomm’s 4th-gen AI Engine which is the same as the Snapdragon 730G, yet the company claims a 2x improvement as compared to previous generations.

We will add more details to the specs of the chipset as and when it becomes available. From what we can see, the Snapdragon 732G simply offers a minor bump in maximum CPU clock speed, and preserves every other feature of its predecessor. Can it really be called an upgrade, in that case?

The POCO X3 will hold the key to that answer. The Snapdragon 730G combined with a 120Hz display propelled the smartphone to success in the mid-range segment, but it’s unlikely we will notice a generational change with the new Snapdragon 732G in use on the upcoming smartphone.

Those interested in catching the live stream of the launch of the Compaq TV can do so on their YouTube channel and Facebook page. Last week Compaq announced that it was partnering with Flipkart and that its new range of TVs will be available starting September 1. We can expect customers to get benefits from the e-commerce website like no-cost EMI and more to make the TVs more affordable. Compaq has been teasing the launch of the TVs on its Instagram page. Even though specifications of the Compaq TVs are not known, we can expect them to support 4K along with HDR and even Dolby Vision. Since most brands have taken to the Android TV platform, we can expect the TV to offer the same. While brands like OnePlus and Xiaomi offer their own UI in addition to Android TV it will be interesting to see what Compaq does in this space.

The TV space is heating up in India with the 32-inch and 43-inch dominating and the 50 and 55-inch space also seeing growth. We have also seen brands market their 65-inch and above TVs in India as some households are looking to bring the theatre home. We have seen brands like Nokia which entered the Indian market with a 55-inch TV and subsequently launched a 43-inch (review) and then 65-inch TV. We have seen brands like Kodak and Thomson launch a new lineup of TVs from 43-inches all the way to 65-inches.

In the premium segment, we have seen Sony launch the 'ready for PlayStation 5 TVs' in 55 and 65-inch screen sizes. You can read more about them here.

As per a tweet by Agarwal, Xiaomi is gearing to launch a new phone priced around Rs 35,000 with a feature set that includes a high refresh rate display, 108MP camera, Snapdragon 865 under the hood and more. The specifications are very similar to the Mi 10T Pro that was spotted online last week.

The Mi 10T Pro is expected to come with a 144Hz high refresh rate display, 108MP rear triple camera and 5,000mAh battery. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor and likely runs on MIUI 12 out-of-the-box.

Last year, Xiaomi rebranded the Redmi K20 and K20 Pro as the Mi 9T and 9T Pro but this year, the Redmi K30 series is already out and so it’s good to see the company working on a new range of phones.

Tata Sky launches new broadband plan with 500GB data per month, heres how it compares to Airtel and JioFiber

In 2020, one of the most important things to have at home is a good internet connection. With students attending classes from home and more and more people working from home, users' reliance on the internet has gone up considerably. A lot of service providers have launched affordable plans for those looking to upgrade their internet connection. If you are looking for an unlimited broadband plan, you can check out our list of best-unlimited broadband plans here. Today however, we are talking about a plan that brings with it a high speed of 300 Mbps. The plan on offer is from Tata Sky and is available in a fixed GB plan as well as an unlimited data plan. Let’s take a look at the plan in detail and see how it compares to other competing services.

Tata Sky 300 Mbps Plan details

The Tata Sky 300 Mbps speed plan is available in a bunch of cities in both its unlimited data and limited data avatar. The price of the 300 Mbps unlimited plan is set to Rs 1,900 per month, or Rs 5,400 quarterly, or Rs 9,720 for 6 months and Rs 18,360 annually. These prices are excluding GST. Despite being classified as an unlimited plan, Tata Sky’s website reads, “For Unlimited Data plans, speed will reduce to 3 Mbps after 3300 GB data consumption for 300 Mbps plan and 1500 GB data for other Unlimited Data plans” Also please note that if you are interested in the 300 Mbps plan, the Tata Sky website says, “300 Mbps plan is available in selected areas and is subject to technical feasibility.”

Tata Sky Broadband offers users 300Mbps plan.

If you don't want unlimited data then you can consider getting 300 Mbps with limited monthly data. The data limit for 300 Mbps is 500GB per month. After 500GB the speed drops to 3 Mbps. The monthly price for this plan is Rs 1470 per month, Rs 4200 quarterly, 7560 half-yearly, and Rs 14280 annually. With the limited data of 500GB per month, users also get data rollover.

If you are fortunate enough to have multiple service providers in your area offering broadband, then here is a look at some other internet providers with a 300 Mbps plan or a plan that’s close to it.

Airtel 300 Mbps Plan details

Airtel likes to keep it simple. If you want unlimited data, then add Rs 299 to your current plan and the data cap is removed. Airtel also offers 300 Mbps speed and it is priced at Rs 1499 per month and offers 500GB of data. This is quite close to the Rs 1470 price of the Tata Sky 300 Mbps broadband plan.

In addition to 300 Mbps speed, the Airtel plan also gives users Amazon Prime Video and Airtel Xstream services.

JioFiber 250 Mbps Plan details

Jio doesn’t have a 300 Mbps plan but it does have a 250 Mbps plan. The 250 Mbps JioFiber plan has a data limit of up to 1750GB. Let’s break that down. The plan gives users 500GB of data and is offering an additional 500GB data (double data) as a part of the lockdown. Users also get introductory data of 250GB. If you decide to pay annually, you get an additional 500GB. However, one should note that at 250 Mbps, JioFiber also gives users 500GB data per month. After the FUP, the speed drops to 1 Mbps speed.

The JioFiber 250 Mbps plan also includes subscriptions to OTT services if the user pays quarterly, half-yearly or annually.

Former OnePlus employee reveals company is actively looking to launch a smartwatch

OnePlus could be on the road to launch its first smartwatch very soon. A report recently surfaced that reveals a listing on Indonesia's IMDA (Infocomm Media Development Authority) certification site. Now, a new report quoting a former OnePlus employee confirms that the company has "actively been looking into a smartwatch for the last year."

Rumours suggest that the watch could be called the "OnePlus Watch". The listing carries the model number W201GB, which is, unfortunately, the only detail we have on the smartwatch. But its appearance on the list hints that the company might launch it alongside the OnePlus 8T.

As spotted by 91Mobiles, the listing reveals that the "OnePlus Watch" is a 'low-power, short-range device' and description says it is a 'wearable watch'. Adding to the report, TechRadar exclusively learned from a former OnePlus employee that the company is considering a smartwatch for a while.

It's not the first time when the OnePlus is speculated to getting into the wearable category with a smartwatch. Back in 2015, OnePlus shared its plans on developing its own smartwatch but it looks like the company has finally made it possible after five years. In 2016, CEO Pete Lau also said that they've completed the design of the smartwatch, but decided to dump it as they wanted to focus on smartphones. Lau wanted OnePlus to avoid being crushed in the 'cruel' wearable market. He said almost all mainstream OEMs had released a smartwatch in different markets, and adding one more would weaken the otherwise solid lineup of OnePlus products.

It is speculated that the company's smartwatch could debut alongside the upcoming phones - OnePlus 8T and 8T Pro somewhere around September.

OnePlus Buds truly wireless is the latest addition to its audio portfolio

OnePlus is more than a smartphone company

OnePlus has been in the market for more than five years, where it started with smartphones but slowly ventured into more categories like audio and televisions with OnePlus Bullets headphones and OnePlus TV Q1 series. While the audio category has flourished over the years, the first TV was launched last year, and the company followed up with three new affordable TVs within a year. With the new wearable added to the list, the company will have an even wider variety of products in its portfolio, which is assumed to grow over the years.

It currently has five audio products in the portfolio - Type-C Bullets Earphones, Bullets Wireless and Bullets Wireless 2, Bullets Wireless Z and truly wireless OnePlus Buds. In the TV category, it has OnePlus TV Q1, Q1 Pro, 43Y1, 32Y1, and 55U1.

Recently, another rumour hinted of an entry-level OnePlus smartphone later this year. You can read more about it here.

PUBG Mobile will soon introduce Video Review Station to combat hackers

PUBG Mobile developers have announced that they will be adding a new feature to combat hackers and cheaters that have infiltrated the game. According to a post on Reddit, the developers will be introducing The Video Review Station. Unlike most anti-cheat systems, which rely on the developers to find and identify cheaters, the new system will add the PUBG Mobile community in the mix. The developers notes that the system is quite similar to the one used by other competitive games like League of Legends and Counter Strike: Global

How this will work is that when a player is reported for suspicious activity in a game, a battle replay video is generated from the suspicious player’s perspective. This video will then be distributed randomly to multiple player investigators who will then analyze the video. If a majority of the investigators confirm that the video contains a violation, it will be sent to the official PUBG Mobile team for review, who will then proceed to take necessary action.

PUBG Mobile to combat hackers by using Video Review Station

The exact launch date for The Video Review Station is not yet known but the developers note that it is currently being tested and is scheduled for release in early September. Further details about the system will be revealed at a later date. Hopefully, we will then know how player investigators will be selected.

The Video Review Station will be the latest in a long line of anti-cheat measures the developers have employed to ensure fair play. A few days ago, the developers announced that they had banned over 2 million accounts for using hacks and cheats over the course of a week. According to the company, 2,273,152 accounts were banned from August 20 to August 27. This also included 1,424,854 devices which were permanently suspended from accessing the game.

From August 20th to August 27th, 2,273,152 accounts and 1,424,854 devices have been permanently suspended from accessing our game, out of which these are the reasons: 12%: Speed Cheats 22%: Other 27%: Auto-Aim Cheats 32%: X-Ray Vision pic.twitter.com/0U7JFeSxtF

These steps come a few days before PUBG Mobile rolls out its v1.0 update. The update will be one of the biggest yet for the game and will not only introduce better graphics, but will also feature an overhauled UI and lobby. It will also come with a new version of Erangel that will feature new layouts and additions. You can read more about that here.

Realme 7 unboxing gives us a glimpse of the design and confirms alleged specifications

Realme 7 and Realme 7 Pro are set to launch in India on September 3 and ahead of the official unveiling, an alleged unboxing video of the Realme 7 has appeared online. Several key specifications of the Realme 7 series have been leaked previously by multiple sources so now we have a fair idea as to what to expect from the successors of the Realme 6 and 6 Pro.

An alleged unboxing video of the upcoming Realme 7 has been posted by the Mix with remix YouTube channel that gives us a look at the design of the upcoming phone. The video showcases what looks like the official retail box of the Realme 7 and the phone seems to have a two-tone design on the back.

The retail box reveals some key specifications that corroborate previous leaks, and we also see the camera module that’s situated in the top-left corner. Let’s take a look at the leaked specifications of the Realme 7.

Realme 7 leaked specifications

The retail box of the alleged Realme 7 in the video reveals a bunch of key specifications that are in line with the previous leaks. In that, the Realme 7 features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) display with a 90Hz refresh rate and 120Hz touch sampling rate. It also has a punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera up front. The phone measures 9.4 millimetres in thickness and weighs 196.5 grams.

The Realme 7 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G95 processor and is paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of storage options to choose from. The Realme 7 is seen running on Android 10-based Realme UI in the video and it comes with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The phone has been leaked to come with a 64MP primary camera that uses Sony IMX682 sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera, 2MP black and white lens and a 2MP macro camera. On the front, there is a 16MP selfie camera housed inside the notch cutout. The rear cameras can record in 4K UHD at 30FPS.

The Realme 7 comes equipped with a 5,000mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging out-of-the-box, courtesy of the Dash Charging solution. It also comes with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor instead of opting for an in-screen sensor as the display still uses an LCD panel.

Realme 7 Pro leaked specifications

Realme 7 Pro specifications were also leaked and it is slated to feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED screen with a Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution.

The 7 Pro could be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor with an octa-core CPU and is paired with 6GB/8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The phones are expected to run on Android 10-based Realme UI out-of-the-box.

The Realme 7 Pro comes with quad-cameras on the back that consists of a primary 64MP camera with an f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera with 119-degree field-of-view, a 2MP monochrome lens and a 2MP macro camera. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie camera with an f/2.5 aperture housed in a punch-hole cutout.

One of the most exciting features of the Realme 7 Pro is going to be its support for 65W fast charging courtesy of SuperDart fast-charging system that debuted on the Realme X50 Pro. The 7 Pro is expected to come equipped with a 4,500mAh battery.

It also comes with dual stereo speakers and measures 8.7 millimetres in thickness and 182 grams in weight. The Realme 7 Pro could be offered in two colours, Mirror Blue and Mirror Silver.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 by Zotac shows up in leaked renders

Nvidia is expected to announce the 3000 series of consumer GeForce graphics cards, but in the days leading up to the launch, there’s already a lot of unofficial and official chatter. While we still wait for an official reveal of the 3000-series GPUs, a leak of the upcoming card by Zotac has leaked.

The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is going to be one beefy GPU, if rumours are to be believed.

According to Tom’s Hardware, a tweet claims to show off a number of renders of the upcoming RTX 3090 by Zotac. Another tweet shows a total of 9 models between the RTX 3090, RTX 3080 and RTX 3070 family of GPUs. According to VideoCardz, the Nvidia RTX 3090 would sport 24GB of GDDR6X memory and 5248 CUDA Cores. The RTX 3080 is reported to have 10GB GDDR6X memory while the RTX 3070 will have 8GB GDDR6X VRAM. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 is reported by VideoCardz to be capable of pulling up to 350W of power. All of this, off course, currently remains limited to the rumour domain.

I don't usually filter things; DE but do you want to see the new 3090 zotac?

Call of Duty: Mobiles Thermite lethal grenade now available: Heres everything you need to know

Call of Duty: Mobile players will now be able to unlock the new Thermite lethal grenade in the game. The new throwable has to be unlocked via the ‘Rocket Arm’ seasonal challenge, but does not require players to fully complete the challenge in order to unlock it. In fact, the grenade will be unlocked right after players complete the second challenge.

Conquest ⁣ To escape your past, face it head on!⁣ ⁣ New Battle Pass⁣ Shipment⁣ Reznov⁣ Nikto - Stronghold⁣ Kilo Bolt-Action⁣ & more!⁣ ⁣ New season, weapons, modes and soldiers available NOW in #CODMobile! pic.twitter.com/YZBA6bDQXw

— Call of Duty: Mobile (@PlayCODMobile) August 16, 2020

Unlocking procedure

As mentioned before, unlocking the Thermite is pretty straightforward as players will only have to complete two challenges. The first tasks them with using the Smoke Grenade ten times in matches. After that, players will have to kill five enemies using trip mines. After that, the new lethal grenade is unlocked.

How to use

The Themite is more of an Area Denial Weapon that is designed to be used to keep enemies from entering a particular area. As such, it is pretty similar in use to the molotov cocktail that was initially a scorestreak, but was transferred to the lethal grenade slot after the Season 9 Conquest update.

How it works

When thrown, the Thermite grenade sticks to where it lands and starts burning for a few seconds. Any enemies caught in the radius will start to burn and will die if they don’t step away. The grenade will stick to any surface before detonating.

Call of Duty: Mobile has introduced a new lethal grenade called Thermite

Molotov vs Thermite

Both these grenades are Area Denial Weapons. However, the Thermite cover a larger radius (50) as compared to the Molotov Cocktail (40). However, the Molotov has a higher damage (60) as compared to the Thermite (40).

Strategy

As an Area Denial Weapon, the Thermite is extremely useful in game modes like Hardpoint and Domination as it will delay opponents from entering an area. It can also be used in common flanking routes in order to deny opponens the chance to enter an area. It is best used in small areas like rooms, corridors and even doorways.

Redmi 9A confirmed to be available exclusively on Amazon

Xiaomi is prepping to launch the latest iteration of its "Desh ka smartphone" - the Redmi 9A in India on September 2. Days before the launch, it is confirmed that the budget phone will be available on Amazon. For those unaware, the Redmi 9A is company's latest offering in its entry-level series of phones, which is highly popular in India.

Amazon has made the Redmi 9A product page live, revealing that the smartphone will be available exclusively on its platform. Sadly, the listing doesn't reveal more details about the hardware of the phone, but those interested can now register with the 'notify me' button to receive all the updates about the launch. But the smartphone is likely to boast of similar specifications as its global variant.

#DeshKaSmartphone #Redmi9A is launching on 2nd September! But can you spot all the previously launched #Redmi A series smartphones in this picture? pic.twitter.com/cWNkpUk3R5

— Redmi India - #Redmi9 is here! (@RedmiIndia) August 28, 2020

The Redmi 9A was launched alongside the Redmi 9C in the global markets back in June. The company recently launched the Redmi 9C in India, rebranded as the Redmi 9 Prime, priced at Rs 9,999. The Redmi 9A is priced at RM 349 (Approx Rs 6,350), and we expect to be priced around Rs 7K mark in the Indian market.

Globally, Redmi 9A was launched in three colour variants - Midnight Grey, Twilight Blue, and Peacock Green.

Redmi 9A colour variants

Redmi 9A specifications

The Redmi 9A comes with a 6.53-inch HD+ IPS display with 20:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio G25 chipset with IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU. The chipset is coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB of internal storage (expandable up to 512GB via micro USB). The company might introduce more variants of the phone in the country. On the camera front, it features a single 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera.

All of this is powered by a 5000mAh battery, which is one of the key highlights of the Redmi 9A. In the software department, the phone has the MIUI 11 skin on top of Android 10.

Although the global variant gives us a good look at the design and specs, we will have to wait for the pricing and availability details of the phone until September 2.

PUBG Mobile bans over 2 million cheating accounts in one week

PUBG Mobile has announced that it has banned over 2 million players over the course of a week. According to a tweet by the developers, 2,273,152 accounts were banned from August 20 to August 27.

— PUBG MOBILE (@PUBGMOBILE) August 29, 2020

The tweet also reveals some interesting statistics. The developers note that a majority (33%) of the banned players were caught using X-Ray Vision, while 27% of the players were using Auto-Aim. 12% of the players were using Speed Hacks. The percentage of players banned for modifying areas of damage or character models was 4% and 3% respectively. 22% of players were caught using other cheats.

PUBG Mobile's ant cheat measures saw over 2 million accounts banned in a week

PUBG Mobile is set to be updated to v1.0 on September 8 and these measures might just be an indication of stricter anti-cheat measures taken by the developers. Players have been complaining of cheaters in the game for quite a while and although all cheaters may not have been caught this week, the move should surely still be welcomed by all. Players are also encouraged to report cheating whenever possible.

Cheating is a major issue in multiplayer games like PUBG Mobile. Even other games like Garena Free Fire have issues with hackers. We reached out to Free Fire a few months ago to discuss the problem as well as the steps taken by them to control it. You can read about that here.

PUBG Mobile’s v1.0 update will be one of the biggest updates for the game. It will not only introduce better graphics, but will also feature an overhauled UI and lobby. It will also come with a new version of Erangel that will feature new layouts and additions. You can read about there here.

AMD launches the Radeon RX 5300 3GB entry-level RDNA graphics card without fanfare

AMD has launched the Radeon RX 5300 graphics card for the entry-level segment based on the same RDNA microarchitecture that powers their RX 5000 series including the RX 5700 XT, RX 5700, RX 5600 XT, RX 5600 and RX 5500 XT. The Radeon RX 5300 is expected to be priced around INR 13000-15000 since it's supposed to compete against the NVIDIA GTX 1650 and its overclocked variants. The RX 5300 was launched silently without any fanfare and all we know comes from a product page on AMD's website. This is not the RX 5300M mobile variant that was launched in November 2019.

AMD Radeon RX 5300 Graphics card specifications

The AMD RX 5300 graphics card has the same core configuration as the Radeon RX 5500 XT but features lower clock speeds and a narrower memory bus. It also ships with just 3GB of GDDR6 VRAM which is lesser than what the competing NVIDIA GTX 1650 ships with by 1 GB. However, the NVIDIA cards use GDDR5 memory whereas AMD uses GDDR6. the memory bandwidth of the 1650 GDDR5 variant is 128 GB/s whereas the RX 5300 has a memory bandwith of 168 GB/s. NVIDIA also launched a GDDR6 variant of the GTX 1650 earlier this year which has a memory bandwidth of 192 GB/s. The faster memory on the RX 5300 will help overcome the lower capacity, however, the extent of its impact can only be determined once the benchmarks are in.

New layouts

PUBG Mobile's new Erangel 2.0 map will feature an overhauled Mylta Power

Some of the most popular locations in Erangel have been overhauled. This includes the Sosnovka Military Base, the Mansion and more. Mylta Power has a brand new layout, while Georgopol will see the addition of seven new warehouses. The developers also note that the new version of Erangel will be denser than the previous version that players have become accustomed to. It will also offer more tactical and strategic options like barricades, trenches and bombed out tanks. Some buildings will now have basements that can be further explored for loot. This will not only give players more strategic options, but also adds more depth and mystique into the history of Erangel.

New look

PUBG Mobile's new Erangel 2.0 map will offer overhauled graphics

As mentioned during their announcement a few days ago, PUBG Mobile is set to get a graphical overhaul on the v1.0 update. The new version of Erangel seems to make the most of these new additions. New smoke, explosion and particle effects add more realism to proceedings. The developers also note that “every building and patch of grass sports more realistic textures, character models benefit from new skin shading and animations, and the game’s many waterways sparkle thanks to a revamped environmental lighting system.”

The new Erangel, aka Erangel 2.0 map will be a part of PUBG Mobile’s v1.0 update called Beyond A.C.E. The update will start rolling out on September 8. Besides the new map, the game will also see major changes to graphics and the main lobby. You can know more about that here.

OnePlus to launch entry-level phone later this year: specifications and pricing leaked

OnePlus is working on an entry-level phone for a launch in the US market sometime later this year. The company recently re-entered the mid-range smartphone segment with the OnePlus Nord and now it looks like the next phone from the house of OnePlus could be an even more affordable budget phone.

According to a report by Android Central that cites an “insider source”, this upcoming entry-level smartphone by OnePlus goes by the code-name “Colver” and has been spotted previously as well. The phone is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor that was announced earlier this year.

While the report lists down the specifications of the upcoming entry-level phone quite extensively, it looks like the phone is based on Realme C15. Interestingly, the Realme X50 had a lot in common with the OnePlus Nord and so it will be exciting to see how the company maintains its reputation that it has amassed all these years for making one of the smoothest Android phones and carries it to the budget segment.

Nevertheless, here’s everything we know about the upcoming entry-level phone by OnePlus including its specifications and expected pricing.

OnePlus entry-level phone specifications and expected price

OnePlus Nord marked the company's re-entry to mid-range segment

The entry-level phone by OnePlus is said to feature a 6.52-inch HD+ (1560 x 720 pixels) resolution display that likely has a punch-hole cutout or a waterdrop notch cutout for the selfie camera.

It is slated to be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 610 GPU. This is paired with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage but there could be multiple variants by the time it goes official. The phone is expected to run on Android 10 based OxygenOS 10.

Moreover, the leak suggests that the phone will have a micro SD card slot for memory expansion, something the company has only provided with the erstwhile OnePlus X.

The phone could come with a triple camera setup on the back that consists of a primary 13MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture, a 2MP macro lens and a 2MP depth sensor. There is no information about the selfie camera at this point but we will keep an eye out for more details.

OnePlus’ entry-level phone could come with a rear fingerprint sensor and a 3.5mm audio jack. One of the highlighting features of the phone is expected to be its 6,000mAh battery that supports 18W fast charging. The phone is expected to be priced around $200-mark which puts it in the sub-Rs 15,000 smartphone segment by direct conversion.

Apple certifies new iPad and Watch models on EEC, suggests launch imminent

With September just around the corner, leaks of Apple’s proposed activities are starting to get more and more prominent. The newest leak is courtesy a report by a French publication Consomac, which reports that Apple has just received certification for new iPad and Apple Watch models.

The report claims that Apple has registered a number of new iPad models, seven in total with the EEC. The models numbers registered are A2270, A2072, A2316, A2324, A2325, A2428 and A2429. Additionally, eight new Apple Watch models registered carry the model numbers A2291, A2292, A2351, A2352, A2375, A2376, A2355 and A2356.

Apple is expected to launch a new iPad and Apple Watch Series 6 in September this year

Apple usually launches the iPhone models at its September event, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company has confirmed that the launch of the iPhone 12 series will be a few weeks later than usual. Currently, it is rumoured that the iPhone 12 series of smartphones will be launched at an event now being hosted in October, while September would see the launch of a new iPad and Apple Watch. Rumours have pointed to the possibility of there being more than the one usual Apple Watch model, including a budget-friendly model of the Apple Watch Series 6 called the Apple Watch SE.

The new iPad and Apple Watch are expected to both launch with the latest version of the respective mobile operating systems; iPadOS 14 and WatchOS 7. Both the operating systems are already available as Public Betas, with WatchOS being available as a public beta for the first time. The final versions are expected to be released in September.

YouTube starts testing native picture-in-picture for iPhones after iOS 14 enabled floating windows

Now that iOS 14 finally supports picture-in-picture mode, YouTube is expectedly working on a native PiP mode for its iOS app which will allow users to minimize the video to a floating window which stays on top of other apps or the home screen. The feature was available for iPads previously, while iOS 14 brings it to iPhones, along with support for homescreen widgets and an app library.

Picture in Picture working on iPadOS with the YouTube app. (But only worked with this live stream, there must be some codec trickery happening behind the scenes for certain playback scenarios). pic.twitter.com/75vG7Ai4ln

— Daniel Yount (@dyountmusic) August 27, 2020

The YouTube PiP feature is still being tested and could be rolled out in stages, before a mass public release. The feature was first reported by 9to5Mac, quoting some Twitter users who posted about the feature being available on their iPhones. Users, however, mention the feature is working only for some videos, suggesting that PiP is still in its testing phase. It’s unlikely that all users will receive the update, as this is likely to be tested among a few users.

Picture-in-picture is a great way to watch videos while using other apps. On YouTube, PiP enables videos to run in a floating window that can be repositioned and resized. This allows users to minimize YouTube and open other apps to send a message, or browse the web.

However, enabling picture-in-picture will require an active subscription to YouTube Premium, available for Rs 129 per month for users in India. This also includes a free trial period and access to YouTube Premium’s library of songs, and no ads while watching a video.

HP Envy 15

The HP Envy 15 is a sleek looking laptop that's aimed squarely at content creators. Powered by the 10th generation Intel Core i7-10750H processor and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti which are both kept cool using a Vapour Chamber cooler. There's also super-fast 1TB NVMe by Samsung and a decent 16GB of DDR4 memory. All this allow the HP Envy to be a solid machine for content creation. You won't be let down irrespective of whether you want to edit on it or use it as a rendering station. The laptop also doubles up as a gaming machine in case you want to blow off some steam. For content creators, the HP Envy offers great performance in a very elegantly designed machine at a price point that is much lower than its competitors.

With content creation starting to occupy more of the occupational landscape today, OEMs are finally starting to see the segment as a standalone business opportunity. Apple’s had this clarity for as long as they’ve had the MacBook Pro lineup, but the PC side of things is just starting to realise that creators have very specific needs, not all of which are met by gaming machines. Asus got on the bandwagon by having the display on many of their gaming machines be “Pantone certified” and Dell pivoted their XPS 15 to be more of a creator laptop than a gaming machine. Now HP is stepping up its game with the Envy 15, having it be tailor-made to cater to the need of those who produce content for a living. The Envy makes a few choices that set it apart from gaming laptops, but at the end of the day, is this the right laptop for content creators or should they look somewhere else?

HP Envy 15 Specifications

Processor: Intel Core i7-10750H RAM: 16GB DDR4 GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660Ti (6GB VRAM) Storage: 1TB Samsung NVMe Display Resolution: 1920x1080 Display Refresh Rate: 60Hz

HP Envy 15 Creative Performance

Our standard testing for creative workloads involves Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Premiere. In addition, we also tested the Envy using DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Apophysis fractal rendering program and Photoshop to see just how the laptop keeps up with these specific workloads. We exported a batch of 50, 100 and 500 RAW files all shot using a Nikon Z7 through Adobe Lightroom Classic. This test w do for all our gaming and creator-centric laptops. In this test, the Envy surprisingly recorded some very slow render times. The HP Omen 15 (Review) that we reviewed recently has the same CPU and a lower-end GPU but still managed to complete the export task much faster.

HP Envy 15 Adobe Lightroom Classic Render test

Switching over to Premiere Pro, we see a completely different behaviour. Now Premiere Pro intelligently shifts the loads between the CPU and GPU depending on the matter being rendered. Here, faster renders are also aided by Intel’s QuickSync technology. Here, we noted that the HP Envy does admirably well, recording the fastest render times across all the 10th gen gaming laptops and even the Ryzen 4000 ones we’ve tested. You can see the render times in the chart below.

HP Envy Premiere Pro render performance test

HP Envy Thermals

What’s particularly interesting is that the HP Envy trades the traditional copper pipe-based cooling system for a vapour chamber. While running our standard 4K 20-minute timeline export, the Intel Core i7-10750H stays well in the 80s for the most part, spiking into the early 90s only momentarily. The vapour chamber does manage to keep the CPU-GPU well within their respective operating temperatures. We also didn’t find the fans to be too loud even when operating at their max. While the internals maintain a good temperate zone, the surface temperature is a different story. The use of aluminium for the keyboard island allows it to also act as a heat dissipator, hence, you will feel the heat from the inside. You can feel the heat at the centre of the keyboard, which clocked 47-48 degrees while the WASD keys clock 40 degree Celsius. Perhaps the most surprising find was the palm-rest, which we measured to be at 41.5 degrees Celsius. Suffice to say, if you’re gaming on this thing or running a sustained render load, this thing is definitely going to feel hot.

HP Envy 15 Gaming Performance

HP is not positioning the Envy 15 as a gaming laptop, but it would be ridiculous to not consider it as one. We ran our standard suite of games on the Envy and found that it actually manages the 60fps mark across most games with their graphics setting set to the High or Medium preset. The Envy sports only a 60Hz display, so we’re more than happy to see games hit that mark. It's smooth and free from any kind of tearing and that’s pretty much all you can hope for. Where the Envy falters as a gaming system is due to the fact that after a few hours of sustained gaming, the surface temperatures do get really hot. Good thing that HP isn’t targeting gamers with this machine.

Keyboard, Trackpad and I/O

The HP Envy 15 features a nice white backlit chiclet-style keyboard. White backlighting is starting to become very commonplace these days, especially in laptops that have silver keycaps. It's best to keep the backlight turned off during the day and only turn it on while using the laptop in dark environments. The keyboard itself is a treat to use, with generously sized keycaps and decent distance between the keys, it was super easy to get used to. Where the keyboard IS a little weird is that it removes the right CTRL key and puts a fingerprint sensor there. It’s a weird spot for a fingerprint sensor, but it does fit into the scheme of things, at least aesthetically.

The trackpad on this machine is definitely smaller than the one on the Dell XPS 15 and the 16-inch MacBook Pro (Review). Like much smaller. However, you do a get a good trackpad, one with unified clicks and also using Windows Precision drivers. The trackpad is usable for the basic stuff like navigating Windows and even simpler photo and video editing.

The I/O on the Envy is rather impressive. You get two Thunderbolt 3.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI port and two USB 3.0 ports. For any creator, this should be sufficient enough. While the Thunderbolt 3 ports are great for further expansion, it is sad to see that they do not support PowerDelivery.

Display

The HP Envy 15 packs a full HD IPS panel with a rated brightness of 300 nits and 100 percent sRGB coverage. We measured the panel brightness numbers to be very close to what HP claims and as for the colour accuracy, the display seems to be calibrated right out of the box. The white point is set for the sRGB colourspace, which is nice. However, if you're going to be using this for colour sensitive work, calibrating the display using a Spyder or an Xrite is absolutely necessary. This is because while the panel may be set to reproduce colours in the most accurate way, the ambient lighting in our working environment has an impact on the way we perceive colour. Professional colour calibration of the display tunes the display's colours taking the ambient light into account which allows for better colour accuracy when it comes to colour-sensitive work. The Envy 15 can easily be used for the purposes of professional photo editing, video editing and even colour grading.

Verdict

The HP Envy 15 is trying to take on brands that have practically ruled the kingdom. However at the same time, the MacBook Pro and the new Dell XPS 15 are considerably expensive, so the HP Envy 15 does fill up a massive price gap that currently exists. The review unit we received retails for Rs 1,49,999, currently being the cheapest of the creator laptops with Intel’s 10th generation processors. You could bump up the specs to an RTX 2060 and an OLED display if you wanted and still not hit the price point of the Dell or the MacBook Pro. The Envy does manage to deliver on the promise of good performance for creative workloads and can also easily hold its own when it comes to gaming. For the price, it does truly offer solid value for money and can be a solid recommendation for those who don the role of content creators and gamers.
