Fitbits upcoming wearables leak, shows ECG functionality

Google acquired FitBit for a cool $2.1 Billion back in November last year and since then, both the companies have been fairly silent. Now, a new leak has sprung, revealing three new potential devices carrying the FitBit brand, including an actual smartwatch. The three new devices in question are the FitBit Versa 3, FitBit Inspire 2 and FitBit Sense. The information was first reported by German website WinFuture.

In the leaked renders, the FitBit Sense looks identical to the Fitbit Versa 2, but apparently also packs an EKG sensor. Apple was the first to market an ECG sensor in its wearable device, the Apple Watch Series 4, and now, FitBit seems to be integrating the same into their upcoming device. This is revealed by the iconography etched on the back case as shown in the renders. Besides that, not much is known except for the fact that Fitbit will be positioning the Sense as its top-of-the-line offering.

The Fitbit Versa 3 looks identical to the Fitbit Sense, but the renders leave out the heart-rate symbol from the back, alluding to the omission of the EKG functionality. Additionally, WinFuture reports that the Fitbit sense will use metal parts and be a more premium device while the Versa 3 will be positioned as a cheaper variant, with slightly lesser quality build materials. The third device in question is the Inspire 2, a simple wrist-band like fitness tracker, turning to a simpler, more rounded design.

While Fitbit is extremely popular with the average consumer, it's been facing exceedingly difficult competition. On the smartwatch front is the Apple Watch and the Samsung Galaxy Watch, while on the fitness tracker front you have Garmin a staple amongst the athletic community. Then we also have other brands like Xiaomi who are releasing very budget-friendly fitness trackers. Fitbit also had the Ionic, another flagship fitness tracker from the last generation which seems to be missing from this entire leak. It is possible that the Ionic will get a refresh later, but for now, this is all we have.
