HMD Globals mid range Nokia 54 launched in Europe

HMD Global has launched the mid-range Nokia 5.4 in Europe. The smartphone popped up in several leaks and rumours in the last few weeks, but the launch comes as a surprise as it was expected to launch sometime later, as its predecessor, the Nokia 5.3 was launched in August 2020, around three months ago.

The Nokia 5.4 is priced at 189 Euros (approx Rs 17,000) in the European market and the company has plans to launch the phone in other markets including Asia, North and South America, Africa, and the Middle East. While it’s confirmed that the Nokia 5.4 is will launch in India, there’s no news on when.

The Nokia 5.4 joins the Nokia 2.4 and 3.4, the more affordable siblings, which also made their debut in India recently. The phone comes in two colour options - Polar Night and Dusk. There are three storage variants of the phone — 4GB+64GB, 6GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB. It has a punch-hole design with a rear fingerprint sensor and a dedicated Google Assistant button.

The Nokia 5.4 features a 6.39-inch HD+ display with a punch-hole design and thin bezels. The Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 662 chipset powers the smartphone with either of these RAM and storage combinations - 4GB+64GB, 4GB+128GB and 6GB+64GB.

On the rear, it has a four-camera setup where the primary sensor has 48MP resolution alongside a 5MP ultra-wide lens, 2MP macro and 2 MP depth sensor. On the front, it has a 16MP selfie camera baked in a punch hole. Nokia is also touting a ‘Cinema’ mode which enables video shooting at 24fps in 21:9 cinematic format that can go up to 60fps. Further, it offers OZO spatial audio and wind noise cancellation for videos.

On the software front, Nokia 5.4 runs Android 10 out-of-the-box. It is Android 11 ready, and it will receive two Android OS updates, thanks to Android One. In addition to the rear fingerprint sensor, Nokia 5.4 also supports face unlock. It packs a 4,000mAh battery with up to 10W charging support via USB Type-C.
