OnePlus Pay receives certification in India, could launch soon

OnePlus launched its own digital payment service back in 2019 and it has remained exclusive to China since then. But it looks like that's about to change now as the 'OnePlus Pay' trademark has been filed and accepted by the India Trade Marks Registry.   Yes, it looks like OnePlus has registered the trademark for OnePlus Pay in India which means the service could be launching in India soon. The trademark listing doesn't reveal much about the mobile payments service or its launch timeline though.

— Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings) April 5, 2021 The listing was spotted by a popular Twitter user who has a good track record of leaking accurate info. So it's safe to say that we can expect OnePlus Pay to arrive as a part of the OxygenOS update soon.   OnePlus Pay will go head-to-head with existing players like Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, and others in the country. We already have a ton of payments app in the country but this should allow OnePlus users to make mobile payments easily without having to rely on anything else. In China, OnePlus Pay is a part of the Wallet app and is exclusive to HydrogenOS.   To use OnePlus Pay, users can simply double press the power button to quickly access it. It works with NFC-enabled POS devices in local shops, malls, etc. OnePlus will most likely partner with an international payment gateway like Mastercard and Visa in India. OnePlus has a very good presence in India and it makes sense complete sense to enable new features for a huge chunk of its users here in India. We just have to wait for an official announcement to see how the service works out.
