Twitter stepped into the world of ecommerce earlier this year, and is strengthening the vertical by experimenting with shopping features during live streams. This new feature will let users watch a live broadcast and shop their favourite products online at the same time. According to the brand, the first live stream with shopping features is scheduled for 28th November, and will show Walmart hosting a cyber-week themed event along with Jason Derulo.
“Livestreaming on Twitter gives businesses the power to engage with their most influential fans, and adding the ability to shop into this experience is a natural extension to attracting and engaging with receptive audiences,” Twitter said of the feature.
What else is Twitter planning for this feature? In order to make the shopping experience easier and presumably more seamless, Twitter is also experimenting with a Shopping Manager feature that is designed to help with the onboarding experience. The company is also expanding the availability of the Shop Module to ensure it can be used by brands and clients soon. Twitter announced in July that this feature allows users to create a carousel type image board that lets them highlight certain products.
Most social media platforms have embraced e-commerce verticals and Twitter, when compared to the rest, has been a little slow to do the same. It will be interesting to see how the livestream shopping feature pans out.
How can you shop on Twitter?Twitter has not confirmed anything else about this feature, apart from the fact that it will be previewing it on November 28th. While the shopping experience will be open to those in the United States, there’s no news on when the functionality will be made available at a global level.
