Instagram outage led people to think their accounts were suspended: Heres the companys response and Twitter reactions

Following the massive WhatsApp outage a few days back, Instagram has also undergone a noticeable global outage. Although the social media app had reportedly had its second outage, this one, in particular, was concerning as following it, some folks' accounts were appearing as suspended. Well, the issue has been addressed and fixed by Meta. Still, for the unversed, here's what actually happened and how Instagrammers reacted to the whole incident on Twitter.

Instagram down

Instagram outage: Company’s statement

We're aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We're looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience. #instagramdown

— Instagram Comms (@InstagramComms) October 31, 2022

First, we got a response from Instagram Comms’ Twitter handle and it only addressed the issue and said they are working on it.

Meanwhile, people started to appeal to Instagram to recover their suspended accounts. Just so you know, this could be done via the Instagram app (when prompted that your account is disabled, just click the Learn More link and follow the on-screen instructions), or by dropping an appeal form or email to Instagram (support@instagram.com).

If your account’s been disabled, there’s a new way to appeal in the app. When you try to log in, you’ll see an option to “Request a Review.” Tap it and we’ll review your disabled account and potentially restore it. We'll roll out these features over the coming weeks. pic.twitter.com/W9r6B7dpau

— Instagram (@instagram) February 11, 2020

However, you may not have to deal with it all, as the brand has claimed to have fixed the issue and as you recover your account, any dip in follower count, that you may have suffered, should also be resolved.

Here’s what Instagram has to say about the issue: "We’ve resolved this bug now – it was causing people in different parts of the world to have issues accessing their accounts and caused a temporary change for some in number of followers. Sorry!"

Our apologies... https://t.co/lsrvlFQDaJ

— Adam Mosseri (@mosseri) October 31, 2022

And here’s how Twitterati has reacted to the whole situation:

Elon Musk changes Twitters homepage for the logged-out users: Heres what its like now

On October 27, 2022, Elon Musk took control of the popular microblogging platform Twitter. Since then, there have been reports about reforms within the company. In his first move as the "Chief Twit,' Musk fired Twitter's CEO, Parag Agrawal, and three other top executives. Under his leadership, Twitter has also applied for delisting from the New York Stock Exchange to become a privately traded company. However, the changes are not limited to Twitter's team: Musk has changed the platform's homepage in less than 24 hours after completing the $44 billion acquisition.

Twitter has a new home page

Twitter home page

As per a report by The Verge, logged-out users visiting Twitter will now be redirected to the Explore page, where they will be shown trending tweets and other news stories. Previously, when logged-out users visited Twitter, they were given a sign-up form that encouraged the creation of an account.

The report also mentions that Musk's directive, implemented on Friday, required "VP involvement to override a code freeze put in place to prevent rogue staffers from making changes during the takeover process." Changing the platform's homepage could be an early sign that Musk has a lot of changes in his mind and won't waste any time implementing them.

Musk is making a lot of changes

Recently, Musk also ordered to rename of the paid subscription feature Super Follows to Subscriptions as part of a rushed mobile update. Musk has also discussed using Starlink to make Twitter available in countries where users face difficulties accessing the internet. It does not look like the water will settle anytime soon, as Twitter's employees have been asked to complete tasks while their managers are making lists of whom they can lay off.

Meanwhile, the billionaire has called in many of his colleagues from other ventures to Twitter. For instance, Alex Spiro, Musk's personal lawyer, is now acting as Twitter's unofficial general counsel; Andrew Musk, a relative of Elon, Jehn Balajadia, the COO of The Boring Company and Sriram Krishnan, the VC at Andreessen Horowitz, have been added "to Twitter's employee directory and given company email addresses." Simultaneously, Twitter's engineering and communications teams are also changing.

Twitter verification badge is going to cost now: Here are the details

Elon Musk recently confirmed that the verification process on Twitter “is being revamped right now". According to new reports, Twitter will soon start to roll out a new feature that would require new as well as previously verified users on their platform to pay for Twitter Blue monthly to keep their verification badge. Let’s check out this report in detail!

What does this mean for Verified Twitter users?

Applying for Verification? Take a look at our revamped Help Center page that makes the process clearer for you. TL;DR: Settings and privacy > Your account > Account information > Verification requesthttps://t.co/49WBHRlPu0

— Twitter Verified (@verified) September 15, 2022

With the verification badge starting to get limited to Twitter Blue members, those already verified will get 90 days to subscribe to Twitter Blue to keep the verification badge on their profile. In case they choose not to pay for Twitter Blue, they’ll start to lose their verification badge.

It has also been reported that Twitter would be planning to increase the Twitter Blue fee to $19.99 from the current $4.99. Aside from the verification badge, Twitter Blue does offer a few features like editing and undoing tweets that are still only limited to subscribers.

Currently, anyone can apply for Twitter Verification. However, given the statement made by Musk, this may not be the case in the near future and a lot of changes could be brought to the verification process as well.

Twitter could start seeing more layoffs

Along with all this, it seems like Twitter will be announcing a lot of layoffs soon. As the reports suggest that the employees working on this project have been given a serious deadline. The employees working on the project were told that would need to meet a deadline of November 7th to launch the feature or else they will be fired by Elon Musk himself.

Given the deadline, this feature could start rolling out this month itself. If it doesn’t, then it is safe that employees working on this feature would probably be fired

Snapchats Director Mode: What is it, how to use it to edit Snapchat All features explained

Snapchat is rolling out Director Mode to more people. Earlier this year, the social platform announced the Director Mode as a feature that gives more control over the content they create using Snapchat. Starting October 27, 2022, Snapchat is rolling out the feature for all iOS users, with limited availability for Android users worldwide.

How to use Snapchat’s Director Mode?

Essentially, the Director Mode is a suite of video-making and editing tools on Snapchat. Let's find out more about Snapchat Director Mode, how to use it and what tools it has. To access the Director Mode, open Snapchat and tap on the plus sign from the options available towards the right. Select Director Mode, and you will see a screen with multiple options such as Flip Camera, Sounds, Dual Camera, Lenses, Green Screen, Speed, Timer, Flash and Import Media.

All these tools will help you create a piece of content, be it a Snapchat Story, video Snap, or short content for other platforms. Starting from the top, the Flip Camera tool allows you to switch between the front and the rear cameras, depending on what you want to shoot. The second option, namely Sounds, lets you add a music track from Snapchat's library to your creation.

Edit your Snaps using Snapchat’s Director Mode

The third option from the top is Dual Camera. It enables users to record the video feed from both the front and the rear cameras at the same time. Further, it also provides four layouts, including vertical, horizontal, picture-in-picture and cutout. Try experimenting with the tool before using it. Then there's the Lenses tool that uses Snapchat's AR capabilities to change the subject's appearance. Below Lenses, you have the Green Screen that lets you add a background to your video or record a video.

You can even decrease or increase the speed of your video from 0.5x to 2x. Using Director Mode, you can either record a single clip of 60 seconds or use multiple clips to create a video of the same duration. Those who have used Instagram Reels or TikTok will find the Director Mode somewhat familiar.

Snapchat is trying to push content creation on its platform so that more people watch the Spotlight posts, which can drive more advertising revenue for the platform. Snapchat's CEO, Evan Spiegel, wants 30% of Snapchatters to watch videos on Spotlight every day in 2023.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 to come out soon: Check release date and expected specifications here

Qualcomm is among the most popular smartphone chip manufacturer in the world. The company makes several tiers of processors for Android phones, ranging from entry-level devices to flagship devices. For the last few months, Android flagships have relied on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ gen 1, two of the company's most potent chips yet. However, the company could launch the successor of these chipsets as early as next month. Qualcomm's official website announced the date of the next Snapdragon Summit, where the company is expected to reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 might be revealed soon

The Snapdragon Summit 2022 will take place in Hawaii from November 15 to November 17, 2022. Although the company has not confirmed what it could reveal at the event, it launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 around the same time last year. Hence, there is a good chance that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will make an appearance at the event in November.

Indian tipster Abhishek Yadav has also predicted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could be released during the Snapdragon Summit 2022.

— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) October 30, 2022

We've already seen smartphones pop up with the unreleased chipset on the benchmarking platform Geekbench. Most recently, the Galaxy S23 Ultra came up on Geekbench's database with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Hence, it seems that smartphone companies already have access to the chipset and are testing its performance.

In the past, Qualcomm has struggled with overheating and power management issues with its flagship chipset. However, that changed with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 to a good extent. With a maximum clock speed of up to 3.2GHz and support for LPDDR5 RAM, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the current choice of smartphone manufacturers.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 expected specifications

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is said to be based on TSMC's 4nm fabrication technology. The mobile processor could further push for peak performance while trying to remain energy-efficient. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 reportedly carries the model number SM8550 and is supposed to come with one high-performance Cortex A73 core, two moderate-performance Cortex A720 cores, two slightly balanced A710 cores, and three Cortex A510 efficient cores. This way, the chipset can handle heavy tasks with high-performance cores and light tasks with energy-efficient cores.

Further, the CPU could be accompanied by an Adreno 740 GPU. According to the Geekbench scores of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC may offer up to 15% better performance than its predecessor. Still, it will only be when the chipset comes out that we'll get a real idea about how it performs in real life.

Musks Twitter to go beyond 280 character limit and also bring longer videos: Heres what we know

Elon Musk on Sunday said that Twitter can soon expand or even get rid of the 280-character limit on the platform.

He also confirmed that the company under him will look into increasing the length of videos so that users can post longer videos.

Responding to a user who asked if we can get rid of character limits, or at least greatly expand it, Musk said: "Absolutely".

Another user asked him about posting longer videos on Twitter, to which he said: "100 per cent".

Musk, who has acquired Twitter for $44 billion after a bitter battle, said in April this year that the micro-blogging platform needs long-form tweets which is "way overdue".

Twitter currently allows people to post in 280 characters.

Reacting to a follower's tweet thread, Musk said: "My most immediate takeaway from this novella of a thread is that Twitter is way overdue for long form tweets!"

Earlier, Musk demanded an Edit button, and the micro-blogging platform announced that it is working on such a feature that will allow users to correct errors in their tweets, albeit with some rules.

Twitter launched 280 characters in November 2017 to all users in supported languages, including English.

The company first announced the controversial plan to move beyond its traditional 140 characters in September 2017 with a small group of users.

Several Twitter users had argued that 280 characters would make Twitter less readable as the platform's defining characteristic is the brevity of posts.

However, Twitter's decision to double its character count from 140 to 280 characters did not dramatically change the length of Twitter posts.

According to the company, Twitter is still a place for briefer thoughts.

Only 1 per cent of tweets hit the 280-character limit, and only 12 per cent of tweets were longer than 140 characters, according to the data provided by the company a couple of years back. Only 5 per cent of tweets were longer than 190 characters.

Netflixs Profile Transfer feature starts to roll out in India: Heres how it works

Popular streaming platform Netflix, which recently announced the 'Profile Transfer' feature to prevent password sharing, is now available in India.

It is fully enabled and available to users.

The "much requested" feature allows users to transfer their personalised recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games, and other preferences to a new account when they start their own membership, said the company.

The customers have started receiving emails to upgrade to the new feature.

"We will never transfer your payment information, and Children profiles cannot be transferred. All saved games and game progress connected to a profile will move to the new account," it added.

The streaming platform also mentioned that the users will always be in control of their account. They can turn off Profile Transfer on the app and web by signing in to their account.

Meanwhile, in a bid to introduce an ad-supported tier for its users, the company had announced that it will roll out the 'Basic With Ads' streaming plan on November 3 in several countries.

Also, Netflix recently announced that it is planning to crack down on password sharing beginning in 2023.

Telegram is testing paid posts to help creators monetise their content: Heres how it works

Earlier this year, the popular instant messaging service Telegram released a Premium subscription model. As a part of the subscription, Telegram offers exclusive features to users, such as the ability to follow more channels and download files at the fastest speed possible. Most recently, Telegram has been spotted experimenting with paid messages and media, a feature that could enable several content creators to monetise their work on the platform. A report by 9To5Mac tells us that Telegram is testing paid posts.

Here is how paid posts could look on Telegram

Telegram is testing pay to view posts?! pic.twitter.com/ZDI5xUpBkR

— Matt Navarra (@MattNavarra) October 27, 2022

As seen in the screenshots shared by Matt Navarra, paid posts seemed to be locked behind a paywall. The posts could include images, videos and even text messages, and they can only be viewed once a user pays the mentioned amount through a button at the centre.

Otherwise, the video and image previews are blurred out, and messages are collapsed. The report mentions, "paying to access individual posts could also become a simple way to gauge interest in a creator's work, helping them gather funds for small-to-medium-scale projects, or rally support for social causes."

The platform is looking for ways to help creators monetise their content

Telegram

In a post, Telegram's CEO Pavel Durov said that "some content creators started using third-party payment bots to sell access to individual posts in their Telegram channels." This way, they could receive close to 100% of what their subscribers paid. However, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple raised this issue with Telegram, saying that it has a problem with creators monetising their work without paying a 30% tax to Apple.

Hence, Telegram had to disable the bots on iOS devices. Adding to his statement, Durov says, "this is just another example of how a trillion-dollar monopoly abuses its market dominance at the expense of millions of users who are trying to monetise their own content."

In the past, apps like Fortnite were unlisted from the Apple App Store for not following payment-related guidelines. Although something like this should not happen with Telegram, there is nothing wrong with the platform looking for ways to help creators monetise their content. If paid posts become a thing on Telegram, other social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and even WhatsApp will likely follow.

Google preparing to challenge Competition Commission on Indias anti-competitive directives: Report

Last week, the Competition Commission of India imposed a heavy penalty of Rs. 1,338 crores on Google for "abusing its market dominant position." The CCI had considered five relevant markets to investigate Google, wherein it found that the Alphabet-owned company is dominant. The regulatory authority also released a set of guidelines for the company, including the manufacturer's right to choose which Google service they wish to ship with the phone.

Google is preparing a legal appeal against CCI’s directive

While the search giant was still in shock, the CCI imposed yet another penalty of Rs. 936 crores for "anti-competitive policies" on the Play Store. In total, the company has to pay Rs. 2,274 crores. However, a report by Reuters suggests that Google is planning to challenge the CCI legally.

The news agency's source informed that Google was concerned that the CCI's ruling could increase regulatory pressure in other parts of the world. Hence, the company plans to present a legal appeal to "block implementation of the antitrust directive" within weeks.

Reiterating its statement from last week, Google said that the decision was "a major setback for Indian consumers and businesses, opening serious security risks ... and raising the cost of mobile devices for Indians." The lead counsel for Google before the CCI, Abhishek Manu Singhvi, tweeted recently that "inherent & patent infirmities" in the directive make a challenge inevitable.

Google is facing global scrutiny

This is not the first time that Google has faced such criticism and monetary penalty. In 2018, the European Commission ruled that the company abused its dominant position by compelling smartphone makers to pre-install its apps, including Google Search and Chrome. Although the company appealed to the EU as well, it lost the appeal and has to pay $4 billion. However, the Indian order takes it even further, imposing restrictions on various Google apps such as YouTube, Maps, Gmail and more.

If Google complies with the CCI directive, it might come up with a new revenue model wherein the company could charge a licensing fee from smartphone manufacturers. The manufacturers will, in turn, charge this cost from consumers by increasing the prices of their smartphones. Such a model is already in place in Europe.

On the other side, CCI's order is welcomed by platforms such as the Indus App Bazaar, a local online app store that provides thousands of apps in regional languages and in English. Nevertheless, it looks like Google will prepare an appeal and try to reduce the fine amount as much as possible.

Google Messages is testing end-to-end encryption for RCS-enabled group chats

Popular messaging service for Android users, Google Messages is testing end-to-end encryption for group chats. Recently, Google is adding a lot of features to its messaging platform. For instance, Google Messages users can now watch YouTube videos in the app and react to messages sent by iPhone users. Now, it looks like the platform will get a security upgrade.

Redditors discovered the ongoing encryption test for group chats

As per a report by 9To5Google, Google is testing end-to-end encryption for group chats over RCS in the Messages app. Earlier this year, the company said it would start experimenting with the feature in late 2022. The report cites users in the r/GoogleMessages subreddit, saying they noticed one encrypted group message.

The people in the subreddit used both Google Messages and Samsung Messages RCS. Upon investigating, the Redditors found that end-to-end encryption was enabled via Google Messages, which means it would encrypt the messages sent via RCS group chats. However, for an RCS group chat to be encrypted, it should be enabled on all devices.

On the other hand, the report also mentioned that in one example the publication has seen, the app tried to send an encrypted message anyway but was unsuccessful (when encryption was not enabled for all users). Additionally, there is no easy way for users to tell whether E2EE is enabled on their devices for group chats. To recall, E2E was first added to Google Messages in late 2020. However, the feature was limited to one-to-one conversations only. Although other online messaging platforms like WhatsApp and Telegram provide E2E for group chats.

Here is how Google Messages’ end-to-end encryption works

On a support page, Google writes that users' eligible messages and attachments, including photos and videos, are end-to-end encrypted. It is a security method that keeps their communications secure so that no one, not even Google, can read the eligible messages. They travel between the users' phones and the receivers' phones.

When texting in an encrypted environment, both the sender and receiver have a code, which should be the same for both. The code is called a secret key and exists only on the two devices. However, it is an old support page published before Google started texting end-to-end encryption for group conversations on Messages. Nevertheless, the underlying technology that encrypts the messages remains the same.

Amazon Prime Video viewing habits stored on internal server exposed online

New Delhi, Oct 29 (IANS) A database containing viewing habits of Amazon Prime Video users, stored on an internal Amazon server, was accidently exposed online that could be accessed by anyone with a web browser.

Cyber-security researcher Anurag Sen found the database with Amazon Prime viewing habits stored on an internal Amazon server that was accessible online.

TechCrunch reported that according to the search engine Shodan, the database was first detected as exposed to the internet on September 30.

"But because the database was not protected with a password, the data within could be accessed by anyone with a web browser just by knowing its IP address," the report noted.

The database had nearly 215 million entries of viewing data, such as the name of the show or movie that is being streamed, what device it was streamed on, and other internal data.

The Amazon Prime Video database was later removed from the Internet.

An Amazon spokesperson told TechCrunch that there was a "deployment error with a Prime Video analytics server".

"This problem has been resolved and no account information (including login or payment details) was exposed. This was not an AWS issue; AWS is secure by default and performed as designed," the spokesperson added.

In its latest Q3 earnings call, the company said that 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power', attracted more than 25 million global viewers on its first day, the biggest debut in Prime Video history, and closing in on 100 million viewers to date.

It also kicked off the inaugural season of Prime Video as the exclusive home of NFL Thursday Night Football with more than 15 million viewers for its first game.

Apple faces backlash due to Casino ads on App Store product pages, takes it down

On October 25, Apple started displaying more advertisements at the bottom of app listings and in the Today tab on the App Store. After the ads went online, multiple developers complained about getting gambling ads under their "You Might Also Like" section when they had never installed any of that application.

Marco Arment, one of the developers, posted a screenshot on Twitter showing gambling advertisements on the App Store page for his podcast app Overcast. Other developers reported having the same issue and clarified that they weren't okay with casino ads on their product pages. As a result, Apple has told MacRumors that it has paused the ads related to gambling and a few other categories on App Store product pages. However, it is unknown when Apple will resume the service.

MacRumors noted that people had criticized Apple for serving casino ads as a whole and not just because they are within app listings. Florian Mueller, FOSS Patents blog, argued that by putting ads in app pages, Apple forces developers to buy those ad spaces, as competitors could use them and take potential customers away if they don't purchase them.

Apple has sold ads in the App Store for years, but the ads space in the Today tab is limited to a curated list of recommendations from Apple's editorial team. Meanwhile, the "You Might Also Like" section contained suggestion cards for similar apps, where ads display at the bottom of listings. In addition, since Apple allows advertisers to target categories different than their own, casino ads can show up just about anywhere on the App Store.

Is Apple working on a 16-inch iPad model Here is what we know about it

The Cupertino-based iPad maker Apple recently released two new tablet models, the iPad (10th generation) and the M2 iPad Pro. While the former is the successor of the entry-level iPad (9th generation), the latter comes as an upgrade to the most powerful iPad. However, just after the launch, information about another iPad has started to circle on the internet. As per a report by The Information, Apple could be working on a large-screen iPad. The iPad is expected to come out in the fourth quarter of 2023 and will be the biggest iPad Apple offers.

Get ready for the largest iPad Apple has to offer

Per the report, the largest iPad will come with a 16-inch screen, like the current MacBooks. When the iPad comes, it will bridge the gap between the iPads and the MacBooks offered by Apple. The 16-inch iPad will be targeted towards creative professionals, including artists, graphic designers, illustrators, and animators, among others.

Compared with the 12.9-inch iPad, the 16-inch iPad will provide much more space for the users to interact with the device. Although the report does not mention anything about the specifications of the 16-inch iPad, it is safe to assume that Apple will pack in top-of-the-line specifications in the device and charge a premium price for it.

It is important to mention that DSCC's Ross Young tipped earlier this year that the company is working on a 14-inch iPad Pro variant with a mini LED screen. Combining the report with Young's tip, it looks like Apple is gearing up to release two new iPad models next year, matching the sizes of MacBooks. If the speculations are true, a 14-inch iPad Pro and the 16-inch iPad will reduce the gap between Apple's tablets and laptops like never before. Apple currently powers the MacBook and the iPad Pro with its M2 chipset.

Apple is also said to be working on macOS for iPad Pro

Most recently, known tipster Majin Bu suggested that Apple is working on a macOS version for the M2 iPad Pro, codenamed 'Mendocino.' As per Bu, the macOS 14 for iPad Pro includes 25% larger macOS UI meant for touchscreens. Is there a chance that both the pieces of information: that Apple is working on a 16-inch iPad and a macOS version for large touchscreens; are connected in any way?

Well, it looks like the company is planning to surprise its fan big time by announcing a large iPad or macOS for iPad, or even better, both of them. Nevertheless, these are initial reports/tips, and Apple has not confirmed anything. Hence, readers should take the information with a pinch of salt.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro could come with A17 Bionic chipset and feature USB-C instead of Lightning

Last month, the Cupertino-based tech giant Apple released the iPhone 14 lineup, including the vanilla iPhone 14, the new entrant iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. However, for the first time in a few years, Apple saved its latest A16 Bionic chipset for the Pro models, shipping the iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus with last year’s A15 Bionic. Now, a report from TrendForce suggests that the company will follow a similar approach with the iPhone 15 series that is supposed to come out in 2023.

iPhone 15 expected specifications

As per the report, “Apple will maintain a four new model release schedule featuring two processors to further differentiate between the standard and the high-end models.” This means that Apple will release four new smartphones as a part of the iPhone 15 series. Based on the iPhone 14 series models, the iPhone 15 series could also come with two non-Pro variants and two Pro variants. Additionally, since the lineup is expected to come with two processors, there is a good chance that non-Pro iPhone 15 variants will ship with A16 Bionic, and the Pro iPhone 15 variants will feature the latest and the greatest A17 Bionic chipset.

From what it looks like, major improvements to the hardware will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max, as the report also talks about 8GB of RAM on the Pro models. Besides this, Apple could make “camera specifications improvements, including upgrading its main camera to 8P and use a periscope lens in the Pro Max model.” Last but not least, the company’s 5G modem is not expected to debut until 2024, so Apple might stick with Qualcomm’s 5G modem for the iPhone 15 lineup.

Apple could shift to USB-C from the iPhone 15 series

Another highlight of the upcoming iPhone series is the switch from Lightning to USB-C ports. Earlier this week, the European Union announced that companies who wish to sell electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets, headphones or any other gadgets would have to use a USB Type-C port. As a part of the law, all companies are given a directive to switch from Micro USB or Lighting ports to USB-C by 2024. Hence, Apple has no choice but to comply with the guidelines provided by the EU. However, the TrendForce report mentions USB-C ports in reference to the iPhone 15; hence, there is a good chance the iPhone 15 series will feature a USB-C port.

YouTube to split video content into 3 separate tabs

San Francisco, Oct 28 (IANS) Video streaming platform YouTube has announced a new update that will now split video content across all channel pages into three separate tabs for Shorts, live streams and long-form videos.

The update will make it easier for viewers to discover the kinds of content they are most interested in when exploring a creator's channel page, YouTube said in a blogpost.

In the Shorts tab, the viewer will only see Shorts. When the viewer is watching Shorts in the Shorts feed and navigate to a creator's channel from the feed, the viewer will be directed right to this new tab to keep enjoying Shorts.

In the Live tab, viewers will find all streams in this tab including any that are currently active, scheduled, or archived.

However, the Videos tab will continue to house long-form content.

Video users will no longer be able to view Shorts or live streams in the Videos tab in future, it added.

All devices will begin to display the new Shorts and Live tabs next to the classic Videos tab in the coming weeks, according to the company.

Meanwhile, YouTube recently announced that it is rolling out new design elements and product features, including options to zoom in and out for videos, to enhance the user experience on the platform.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 game modes revealed: Check out all the details here

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is all set to launch on 28th October. Activision has confirmed all the game modes that the game’s multiplayer will have at launch. The game is set to include Killstreaks, Field Upgrades, Perks, and more. Let’s take a deep dive into all the game modes that the game is set to include!

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Multiplayer Game Modes

As per Activision, Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer will offer two distinct mode categories at launch that include Core Map modes and Battle Map modes. The Battle Map Modes will also include Ground War and Ground War Invasion. Here is a list of all the following Core Map modes that will be available at launch:

Free-for-all: The first player to reach 30 eliminations ends the match, with the top three performers claiming victory.

Team Deathmatch: Use teamwork to eliminate enemy players and reach the score limit. The first team to obtain 75 eliminations wins the match.

Domination: A team has to take complete control of three zones marked by flags — A, B, and C. Captured zones accrue points over the course of one round. The first team to reach 200 points wins the match.

Hardpoint: One team is required to capture the Hardpoint and hold it against attack. The Hardpoint location rotates every minute, with the position of the next Hardpoint being indicated in the last 10 seconds of the previous zone. The first team to earn 250 points wins the match.

Headquarters: A team is required to work and capture the Headquarters, then dig in and defend. Respawns are disabled for the team that holds the HQ. Once the HQ is taken offline, a new zone is designated for the next one. The first team to earn 200 points wins the match.

Control: Each team shares a pool of 30 lives. If the attacking team successfully takes out one objective, they will gain more time to complete the second. The defending team can win the round by letting the time run out before the objectives are taken. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.

Prisoner Rescue: The Attackers must find two hostages and carry them either out or protect them at the extraction point – each hostage is worth 100 points. Defenders must prevent their extraction at all costs and hold them together in their spawn area until the round’s timer expires The first team to earn 500 points wins the match. Knock Out: Both teams fight over a bag of Cash located in the middle of the map. The team that holds the bag at the end of the round or that eliminates the entire enemy team wins the round. The first team to take five rounds wins the match. Search & Destroy: Attackers win a round by eliminating all defenders before or after the bomb is planted, or successfully planting a bomb and having it explode. Defenders win a round by eliminating all attackers before the bomb is planted. The first team to take six rounds wins the match.

Elon Musk makes a dramatic entrance at Twitters headquarters company could announce the acquisition soon

The richest man in the world, Elon Musk, made a dramatic entrance into Twitter's headquarters on October 26, 2022. Apparently, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO entered the San Francisco premises of the microblogging platform carrying a bathroom sink in his hand. Yes, that's right; the world's most influential personality walked into Twitter's office with a white-coloured sink in his hand for some reason and posted a video of the same on his Twitter account.

“Let that sink in,” says Musk

Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in! pic.twitter.com/D68z4K2wq7

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) October 26, 2022

In this video, we can see Musk entering the premises, holding a sink, and talking to someone not visible in the camera. Guess what could be the caption of the video posted by Musk? It reads, "Entering Twitter HQ - let that sink in," which seems to be a word-play around his entrance into the Twitter premises after the back and forth with Twitter in the past few months and the object he's carrying with him, i.e., a sink.

Earlier that day, Twitter's Chief Marketing Officer and Head of People, Leslie Berlan, notified the staff that Elon Musk would be in the office in the coming days, as per a report by Business Insider. The email reads, "you'll soon see or hear Elon is in the SF (San Francisco) office this week meeting with folks, walking the halls, and continuing to dive into the important work you all do."

The email also says that it would be the beginning of many meetings and conversations with Elon, and all the employees will hear from him on Friday, i.e., October 28, 2022. Amidst these events, Musk changed his Twitter bio to "Chief Twit" on Wednesday. From what it looks like, Musk could have agreed to close the deal with Twitter.

We can expect some big announcements on Friday, October 28, 2022

Earlier this month, Kathaleen McCormick, a Delaware judge, halted the Musk-Twitter case. McCormick gave both parties until October 28, 2022, to mend things and close the initial deal that valued the microblogging platform at $44 billion. Before that, Musk was supposed to appear for a trial on October 17, 2022. However, the judge's verdict gave him some time to arrange the hefty amount.

As per the judge's condition, Elon could acquire Twitter for the aforementioned amount before the stipulated data. Elon agreed upon the same but on the condition that Twitter would withdraw the case against him. Now that the "Chief Twit" is roaming around the halls of Twitter's San Francisco headquarters, it appears the acquisition is on its way and could be announced anytime soon. Since Musk is about to address the employees on Friday, we can expect some headlines.

New reports suggest that video games help in improving the understanding performance in children

According to a report by the National Institute of Health, video games help with a better understanding performance in children. The researchers found that the children who were playing video games were faster and more accurate when compared to the children who don’t play video games. Let’s take a detailed look at the report shared by NIH.

How do video games affect children?

Scientists separated about 2,000 children into two groups, the ones who don’t play video games at all and kids who play games for three or more hours per day. It was found that those who reported playing video games for three hours per day or more performed better on cognitive skills tests.

These tests involved impulse control and working memory compared to children who had never played video games. According to the researchers, these patterns stem from practising tasks related to impulse control and memory while playing video games. These can be cognitively demanding, and these changes lead to improved performance on related tasks.

“While we cannot say whether playing video games regularly caused superior neurocognitive performance, it is an encouraging finding, and one that we must continue to investigate in these children as they transition into adolescence and young adulthood,” said Bader Chaarani, PhD, assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Vermont and the lead author on the study.

“Many parents today are concerned about the effects of video games on their children’s health and development, and as these games continue to proliferate among young people, it is crucial that we better understand both the positive and negative impact that such games may have.”

While a lot of prior studies have reported that video gaming in children leads to an increase in depression, violence, and aggressive behaviour, this specific study did not find that to be the case.

iOS 161 features are cool but heres why you should really update your iPhones

Apple has rolled out iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1 updates to the respective devices. Now, many of us may have already updated and got the new features like Live Activities, battery percentage indicator on the iOS status bar, Clean Charging option, and more. However, there may be still some folks who haven’t updated their devices for whatever reason. Well, if you are one, we urge you to update your iPhones and iPads to the latest version, and mind you it is not just about the features but rather for security reasons.

Among other things, the new iOS and iPadOS updates bring fixes for a number of vulnerabilities, one of which is a zero-day exploit. Here’s all you need to know:

What is this Zero-day exploit all about?

According to Apple, an “anonymous researcher” pointed out the CVE-2022-42827 vulnerability that “may have been actively exploited”.  This was apparently some sort of memory corruption flaw caused by an “out-of-bounds write,” and “arbitrary code with kernel privileges” may have been exploited as a result.

With this, Apple has fixed around 8-9 zero-day exploits so far this year.

Which devices could have been affected by this zero-day exploit?

iPhone iOS 16.1

The affected devices could include iPhone 8 and later, iPad Pros, iPad Air 3rd generation and later, iPad 5th generation and later, and iPad mini 5th generation and later.

Why should you update to iOS 16.1?

iOS 16.1

So, the solution to this problem is that you need to update your iPhones and iPads to iOS 16.1 and iPad 16.1 update that was recently earlier this week. These updates also patch 19 other vulnerabilities and you also get to experience the new iOS 16.1 features.

Clean Energy Charging on iOS 161 explained

With the recent iOS 16.1 update, Apple has finally started to roll out a whole bunch of new features. The update has brought features like iCloud Shared Photo Library, third-party support for Live Activities, Apple Fitness Plus and more. Along with that, Apple has also added the Clean Energy Charging feature, which a lot of users seem to be not aware about, so let’s check out how does this new feature work and what does it do!

Clean Energy Charging: What does it do?

With this new feature, your iPhone can try to reduce the carbon footprint by selectively charging when lower carbon-emission electricity is available. If the feature is enabled on your iPhone, then as soon as you connect your iPhone to a charger, your iPhone gets a forecast of the carbon emissions in your local energy grid and uses it to charge your iPhone during times of cleaner energy production.

As of now, this Clean Energy Charging feature is only available to iPhone users in the United States and is turned on by default after you update your iPhone to iOS 16.1. In case you wish to turn the feature off then, you can simply do that by going in Settings, then in the Battery section, by going in the Battery Health & Charging and just turning off the Clean Energy Charging toggle.

Clean Energy Charging: How does it work?

Clean Energy Charging works together with Optimized Battery Charging to learn your charging habits. This feature engages only at the places you spend the most of your time and regularly charge your device for long periods of time. For example, it detects if you’re at your home or at the place of work and only engages then.

In case, you’re travelling or have visited someone else’s place and you charge your device, then the feature doesn't engage as it detects that you're in a new location. Because of this and to get the carbon-emission forecast for your area, some location settings must be turned on in order to use Clean Energy Charging.

Elon Musks Starlink will soon be available on Recreational Vehicles

San Francisco, Oct 26 (IANS) Elon Musk-owned SpaceX has announced that its satellite Internet service Starlink will be available for recreational vehicles (RVs) in December.

Starlink for RVs allows users to get immediate access to high-speed, low-latency Internet while in motion, at any location where the company provides active coverage.

The flat high-performance service can connect to more satellites because of its broad field of view and improved GPS capabilities, providing reliable connectivity wherever it is needed.

The hardware of the setup is durable in tough situations and is made for permanent installation on the car.

Users can easily pack it up when they want to move to their next destination, the company said.

With the flexibility to stop and resume service at any time and monthly billing, the Internet service for RVs enables users to customise their service according to their own travel requirements.

The new flat high-performance service for in-motion use is available for ordering in a few markets, but the deliveries will start in December 2022.

Recently, the company announced that its satellite Internet service will soon be available on select aeroplanes with the official launch of Starlink Aviation next year.

According to a report, the company claimed that the service will offer Internet speeds of up to 350mbps to each plane equipped with its Aero Terminal, which it says is fast enough for video calls, online gaming, "and other high data rate activities".

Spotify says Apple is destroying its audiobook store by choking competition

San Francisco, Oct 26 (IANS) Leading music streaming platform Spotify has said that Apple is ruining its audiobook store by "choking competition".

Apple's limitations are harmful to both creators and users, as it continues to prevent Spotify and other applications from offering a seamless user experience, the company said in a blog post.

According to the platform, Apple's restrictions are "far too complicated and confusing," and they change "arbitrarily, making them impossible to interpret."

The market for audiobooks has huge potential for growth and more authors could be discovered by new listeners, but the buying flow the company has been forced into is unnecessarily restricting that possibility.

"Apple continues to dictate what online innovation looks like, doing serious harm to the internet economy, choking competition and the imagination of app developers. Apple has shown time and again that it will not self-regulate and has no real incentive to change," said Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify.

"With our audiobooks launch, Apple has once again proven just how brazen it is willing to be with its App Store rules, constantly shifting the goalposts to disadvantage their competitors," he added.

Meanwhile, recently, the company announced that it had acquired Dublin-based Kinzen, a global leader in protecting online communities from harmful content.

NASA starts to study UFO mysteries: Heres what that entails

NASA has kicked off a study to help scientists learn more about unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) or UFOs (unidentified flying objects).

Over the course of nine months, the independent study team with 16 members will lay the groundwork for future study on the nature of UAPs for NASA and other organisations, the space agency said in a statement.

The team includes leading scientists, data and AI practitioners, aerospace safety experts, and other experts in their respective fields.

The study will focus solely on unclassified data. A full report containing the team's findings will be released to the public in mid-2023.

"Exploring the unknown in space and the atmosphere is at the heart of who we are at NASA," said Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters in Washington, DC.

"Understanding the data we have surrounding unidentified aerial phenomena is critical to helping us draw scientific conclusions about what is happening in our skies. Data is the language of scientists and makes the unexplainable, explainable," he said.

Unidentified aerial phenomena are of interest for both national security and air safety and the study aligns with one of NASA's goals to ensure the safety of aircraft.

Without access to an extensive set of data, it is nearly impossible to verify or explain any observation, thus the focus of the study is to inform NASA what possible data could be collected in the future to scientifically discern the nature of UAP.

"NASA has brought together some of the world's leading scientists, data and artificial intelligence practitioners, aerospace safety experts, all with a specific charge, which is to tell us how to apply the full focus of science and data to UAP," said Daniel Evans, the assistant deputy associate administrator for research at NASA's Science Mission Directorate.

The findings will be released to the public in conjunction with NASA's principles of transparency, openness, and scientific integrity.

Apple to reportedly bring iOS 16 features to iPadOS soon

Apple might roll out the iOS 16 features to the iPad soon along with the Stage Manager.

The tech giant has officially unveiled iOS 16.1 and iPadOS 16.1, which indicates that iOS 16 features like iMessage editing and undo send in Mail will eventually be added to the iPad, reports The Verge.

Additionally, the Stage Manager multitasking function, however, which was unpopular and unreliable during the iPadOS betas, is now officially released.

Although the company postponed the release of iPadOS 16 from its September date, Stage Manager might still have some issues when it will made available to the general public in version 16.1.

Stage Manager would not have external display support upon launch despite the delay, the report said.

Recently, the company had announced to roll out iOS 16.1 update with new features, including 'Live Activities', 'Clean Energy Charging' and more.

'Live' feature gave updates about an ongoing sports game and tracks the progress of the ride.

The update supported 'Matter', a new smart home connectivity standard that enabled compatible accessories to work together seamlessly, across platforms.

'Clean Energy Charging' focused on decreasing the carbon footprint of the iPhone by planning charging times for when the grid was using cleaner energy sources.

The Elder Scrolls Online players can transfer their data from Stadia to PC

Last month, Google announced it would shut down its cloud gaming platform, Stadia. The news came as quite a shock to enthusiasts as the Alphabet-owned company had pushed Stadia extensively in the past. Nevertheless, gamers who had spent their time playing titles on Stadia soon started questioning what would happen to their saved progress, titles and content library. While Google did not have an answer to such queries, in the beginning, game developers and publishers stepped in to help Stadia users.

Here is how to transfer The Elder Scrolls Online data from Stadia to PC

For instance, Bethesda has announced that it will allow The Elder Scrolls Online players to transfer their account and other data from their Stadia account to a PC or Mac. To transfer their data, all Stadia players have to do is log in to their account via a PC or a Mac and download the game on their device. It would not cost the players a single penny and save all their progress, along with in-game characters, collectables and other items.

It is possible because The Elder Scrolls Online players have been playing on the PC/Mac mega servers from the very beginning. The cloud gaming service was running the games on the same servers used by PC and Mac users; hence, the saved data is compatible across both platforms. Even if players cannot access their account information, Bethesda states that they will be able to recover it. In the worst case, players can contact the company via its support page.

Stadia shuts down on January 2023

Elder Scrolls Stadia

While Google shuts down Stadia on January 23, 2023, those who purchased the hardware from the company via the official Play Store will get a full refund. However, the company has not yet clarified the process for initiating the refund. Nevertheless, customers will be notified of Google’s plans well in advance. In the meantime, if players want to explore other cloud gaming options, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Nvidia’s GeForce Now and Amazon Luna are the available options.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro+ banner leak suggests a curved AMOLED display

Redmi Note 12 Pro+ banner leaked online before the company's official announcement. The picture that surfaced online confirmed the smartphone will feature a curved display. Although preliminary information, it is likely that the panel in question will be OLED. The company has not yet revealed any specifications of the smartphone, and we know little about the details of the new phone. However, tipsters have claimed some features of the upcoming series.

The Redmi Note 12 phones could include a Dimensity 1080 chipset for the two Pro models. The Dimensity 1080 chipset is an upgrade over the Dimensity 920 in a few ways, but the focus is on the chip's ability to handle a 200MP camera. Therefore, expecting a 200MP camera from at least one of the Redmi Note 12 phones is not unreasonable.

Redmi Note 12 Pro

Xiaomi's Weibo post teasing the Redmi Note 12 series confirmed that the phones will come with "two major technologies," one of them being "first in the world." In addition, it confirms that the Redmi Note 12 Pro+ has been certified to support 210W charging.

Now, there is still a bit of mystery in the air, and the more details are likely to be uncovered closer to the launch date.

Xbox releases new update for alpha testers, contains better Discord integration, among other features

Discord has announced a new Update Preview coming to the Alpha ring insiders. The OS version released as a part of the update is already available to Xbox Insiders from October 19, 2022. While some changes in the upgrade include background improvements, Xbox has also released some user-centric features, including Capture & Share, Live Streaming via Twitch, and Settings - Language.

Xbox Insiders update comes with new features

Xbox Discord

As mentioned earlier, the new Xbox OS update comes with Capture & Share, which includes a new playback and editing app called Captures, which is accessible through both My games & apps and Guide. The app will help users capture and share videos on other digital platforms. Microsoft has also improved the UI and performance of the app and added a new option to copy players' local captures to external drives.

Further, players will now be able to stream to Twitch from the Guide using their Lightstream or Streamlabs subscriptions. Players must change the Destination drop-down on the Live Streaming options page to do this. In addition, Microsoft has also added support for the Ukrainian language as a console display language. Although some experiences, such as in Store where everything might not be displayed in Ukrainian.

Users can now join a voice channel from an Xbox console in an easy way

Xbox Discord

The Microsoft Xbox OS update's main highlight seems to be a Discord Voice feature. The feature makes the Discord server & voice channel browser available upon clicking the Discord button in the Guide under the Parties & chats section. Hence, account-linked users can join the voice channel directly from their console. Those who do not have their Xbox and Discord accounts linked will be asked to connect their accounts first.

Although, players still need to keep their phones handy if they want to join direct calls. Microsoft has also fixed other bugs and known issues with the update. First, Xbox engineers have fixed an issue where the console would sleep instead of shutting down properly. Then they have also updated the interface to reflect local languages across the console properly.

Google Play Store has removed popular apps with 20 million downloads: Heres why

Google Play has removed apps with more than 20 million downloads because they were using excessive mobile data and draining batteries, says a report.

According to a report by McAfee, it identified new Clicker malware that sneaked into Google Play. In total, 16 applications that were previously on Google Play have been confirmed to have the malicious payload with an assumed 20 million installations.

"Once the application is opened, it downloads its remote configuration by executing an HTTP request. After the configuration is downloaded, it registers the FCM (Firebase Cloud Messaging) listener to receive push messages," McAfee wrote in a blogpost.

"At first glance, it seems like well-made Android software. However, it is hiding ad fraud features behind, armed with remote configuration and FCM techniques," it added.

The security researchers notified Google that all the identified apps are no longer available on Google Play. Users are also protected by Google Play Protect, which blocks these apps on Android.

The malicious code was found on useful utility applications like Flashlight (Torch), QR readers, Camera, Unit converters, and Task managers.

The FCM message has various types of information and that includes which function to call and its parameters.
