Qualcomm is among the most popular smartphone chip manufacturer in the world. The company makes several tiers of processors for Android phones, ranging from entry-level devices to flagship devices. For the last few months, Android flagships have relied on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8+ gen 1, two of the company's most potent chips yet. However, the company could launch the successor of these chipsets as early as next month. Qualcomm's official website announced the date of the next Snapdragon Summit, where the company is expected to reveal the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 might be revealed soonThe Snapdragon Summit 2022 will take place in Hawaii from November 15 to November 17, 2022. Although the company has not confirmed what it could reveal at the event, it launched the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 around the same time last year. Hence, there is a good chance that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC will make an appearance at the event in November.
Indian tipster Abhishek Yadav has also predicted that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 could be released during the Snapdragon Summit 2022.

— Abhishek Yadav (@yabhishekhd) October 30, 2022We've already seen smartphones pop up with the unreleased chipset on the benchmarking platform Geekbench. Most recently, the Galaxy S23 Ultra came up on Geekbench's database with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC. Hence, it seems that smartphone companies already have access to the chipset and are testing its performance.
In the past, Qualcomm has struggled with overheating and power management issues with its flagship chipset. However, that changed with Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 to a good extent. With a maximum clock speed of up to 3.2GHz and support for LPDDR5 RAM, Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is the current choice of smartphone manufacturers.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 expected specificationsThe Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC is said to be based on TSMC's 4nm fabrication technology. The mobile processor could further push for peak performance while trying to remain energy-efficient. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 reportedly carries the model number SM8550 and is supposed to come with one high-performance Cortex A73 core, two moderate-performance Cortex A720 cores, two slightly balanced A710 cores, and three Cortex A510 efficient cores. This way, the chipset can handle heavy tasks with high-performance cores and light tasks with energy-efficient cores.
Further, the CPU could be accompanied by an Adreno 740 GPU. According to the Geekbench scores of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC may offer up to 15% better performance than its predecessor. Still, it will only be when the chipset comes out that we'll get a real idea about how it performs in real life.
