Google plans to redesign Play Store's interface for tablets and foldables by 2023, and the company has shared a glimpse of what we can expect. Although it has disclosed one software aspect, this shows Google's overall commitment to tablets. Google has detailed some features coming to the app store on tablets, foldables, and Chromebooks, and the company gave insights into the update via some screenshots and clips.
Google shared a single (low-resolution) picture highlighting the changes coming to the Play Store for tablets and foldables in 2023. The current Play Store tablet design is nothing but the Play Store for smartphones stretched for a big screen. Thus, the new upgrade would be a significant overhaul. Google shared the screenshots offering the description and videos related to the update directly and stated that this is a "content-forward approach." In addition, the company informed its users that this would merely be a visual change and would not impact the app promotions. The screenshot shared by Google also revealed the presence of a dedicated Kids section, situated at the bottom of the left sidebar with the Games, Apps, Books, and Offers.
An old Android tablet UI
Google is also providing developers with resources and tips on making the best of their apps, including capturing as many screenshots as possible and promoting using imagery rather than a block of texts. The Play Store upgrade for large-screen devices would likely align with the release of the Pixel Tablet early next year, or it can even be with the Pixel Fold, which will arrive before the end of 2023's first quarter. More details about this UI facelift will be revealed in the months leading to the release of the company's flagship tablet.
