Sony Honda Mobility Inc. (SHM), the joint venture of Sony and Honda, is launching its first Electronic Vehicle (EV). The company will begin accepting pre-orders in the first half of 2025, hoping to start its first deliveries in the United States by spring 2026, and in Japan in the second half of 2026. The company also plans to launch in Europe, but this information is vague. During the event, the company didn't disclose a glimpse of the vehicle they are working on. However, they're planning to focus on online sales like Tesla. The company aims to create a Level 3 autonomous driving system, which means its cars will eventually have self-drive capabilities.
SMH Chairman and CEO Yasuhide Mizuno said during the event that the joint company is "speedily" developing its first vehicle. He added their car would be a turning point for vehicle electrification. The company will also offer new types of in-vehicle entertainment. In addition, Sony's software system will offer a monthly entertainment and other services subscription, providing SMH with recurring revenue.
