OnePlus collaborates with Jio to bring standalone 5G to India

In a bid to expand the reach of 5G and to satiate waiting customers, OnePlus has decided to collaborate with Reliance Jio to bring stand-alone 5G technology to our country.

According to an officially released statement, the duo will actively work on the backend to make the technology more accessible.

They entered into a formal agreement at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) in New Delhi. The event took place between October 1 and 4 wherein 5G was shown to Jio users with eligible sets of OnePlus devices.

As of now, Bharti Airtel and Jio have both started to roll out their 5G services from October 1 based on SA (standalone) and NSA (non-standalone) architecture.

As per the companies, 5G should cover the whole country by 2023-24.

Is OnePlus the first brand to sign such an agreement with Jio’s ‘True 5G’ technology?

OnePlus is not the only brand, even different mobile brands like Xiaomi, Redmi, Samsung and Oppo have announced that their devices will come powered with Jio’s ‘True 5G’ technology.

President of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd., Sunil Dutt said “The real power of a 5G smartphone can only be unleashed by a True 5G network like Jio, which is built as a standalone 5G network, the most advanced network of its kind.”

Which models will have access to Jio 5G?

The models that will have access to the Jio True 5G network will be the OnePlus 10 series, the OnePlus 9R, the OnePlus 8 series and some Nord devices. It is expected to soon follow in the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9RT devices.

Navnit Nakra who is the Head of OnePlus India said “With 5G technology, users will enjoy a truly seamless, speedy internet, while achieving a lot more from their daily use of smartphones than they could possibly imagine.”
