If you are active in the world of technology news, then the chances are that you get your regular dose of Apple leaks and rumours, most of them coming from one Mr Mark Gurman. In his recent article, the fabled Bloomberg reporter hinted at the launch of a new 24-inch iMac and 13-inch MacBook Air.
Apple’s current lineup of Macs includes the 24-inch iMac that comes equipped with the M1 chip. Launched a couple of years ago, the 24-inch iMac has been due for an upgrade for some time now. The MacBook Air had recently gotten an update both in terms of design and processing hardware. Apple gave its design a boxier, iPhone-like treatment and fitted its lightest and cheapest laptop line with the M2 chip. The M1 variant is still up for sale and has been reporting decent numbers. However, Apple plans to make changes to its Mac line-up, or at least that is what Gurman suggests.
In his article, he wrote – “I can now share some good news. Apple Inc.’s next iMac desktop is at an advanced stage of development called engineering validation testing, or EVT, and the company is conducting production tests of the machine.”
He added that the new iMacs will carry the same colourways and screen size. The biggest change would be the addition of a ‘new M-series chip’ that would replace the M1 chip. On the MacBook front, he speculated that if Apple are to stick with their release pattern from last year, then we could very well see a new MacBook Air (13-inch) being introduced, fitted with the new M3 chip which is set to launch sometime this year.
It will be interesting to see what approach Apple takes and what impact will the new M3 chip have on the whole personal computer market as a whole. As things develop, we hope that we get some new exciting machines to play with!
