Xiaomi has announced its latest budget-friendly smartphone, the Redmi 12 5G, in India on August 1. The company had a live stream of the event for those who couldn’t make it to the offline event. There were earlier rumors suggesting that the Redmi 12 5G might be a rebranded version of the Redmi Note 12R, which was limited to the Chinese market.
As for the specifications, Xiaomi has featured the biggest screen of the Redmi family yet in the Redmi 12 5G. The phone offers a 6.79-inch IPS LCD display with up to 90Hz refresh rate support. It comes with a resolution of 1080 x 2460 pixels. The smartphone operates on MIUI 14 skin based on Android 13 operating system.

The Redmi 12 5G is equipped with a Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 processor coupled with up to 8GB RAM along with 8GB virtual RAM and up to 256GB of internal storage. It is good that the base variant starts with 128 gigs and not 64 gigs.
The Redmi 12 5G is powered by a 5000mAh battery which supports up to 18-watt fast charging support.

As for the camera setup, the Redmi 12 5G features a 50-megapixel primary camera along with a 2-megapixel macro lens for the close-up shots. On the front, it boasts an 8-megapixel selfie camera.
The Redmi 12 5G is available for purchase on Amazon and Xiaomi’s online store. It is launched in India at a starting price of ₹10,999. The company rolled out a 4G variant of Redmi 12 as well. It is launched at a starting price of ₹8,999.
