CS:GO Paris Major 2023: NaVi bounce back as Heroic and Vitality dance on with a three-match win streak

The BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 is turning out to be the perfect spectacle that would essentially mark the end of one of the best eras of Counter-Strike. There are some issues like under-representation of other regions like Asia, the Americas, and the rest, with Europe being a dominant force. However, I will be taking a deep dive into that after the Major ends. For now, I am sure everyone is loving how the action is unfolding during the Legends stage of the Paris Major 2023.

CS:GO Paris Major 2023: Legends stage - Day 2 - Heroic and Vitality remain undefeated

Day 2 of the Legends stage started with Na’Vi taking on Ninjas in Pyjamas on Overpass. Having lost a game on Day 1 of the Legends stage, Na’Vi bounced back, handing the Ninjas their second defeat. The second match had GamerLegion defeat fnatic 11-16 on the familiar battlegrounds of Overpass.

The action then moved on to Vertigo, where Into the Breach showed why they were placed in the Legends bracket from the get-go, as they defeated one of the top-ranked teams from the Challengers stage, ENCE, 7-16. Apeks showed a glimpse of their brilliance as they stole a win from Bad News Eagles on Ancient.

Next, we moved on to the best of three matches, where the first teams facing off against each other were Monte and Vitality. The apEX-led roster (Vitality) trampled over Monte, as they registered an easy 2-0 win. When it was time for Liquid to take on Heroic, things got a little more interesting.

In the first map of the series, Inferno, Heroic won 16-11. On Mirage, Liquid fought back, giving Heroic a taste of their own medicine as they won 16-11. The decider map was Ancient, where we saw Heroic inch past Liquid, 16-12, making the series their own.

The next match of the day, between FaZe and 9INE, landed in FaZe’s bag, as they won 2-0. The story repeated in the last game, where G2 handed Furia a 0-2 loss.

With three straight wins, Heroic and Vitality look to be the teams to beat as we move into another day of some exciting Counter-Strike: Global Offensive action, which will be Day 3 of the Legends stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023.

Here's what the points table looked like at the end of Day 3 of the Legends stage of the Paris Major 2023 -

On Day 4, all the matches will be best of three series, so it will be interesting to see how things pan out -

If we were to get a real-life example of how one can start a tournament on a perfect note, then the Legends stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 would be it. In a day marked by 16 best-of-one matches, we saw it all.    CS:GO Paris Major 2023: Legends stage - Day 1 - Heroic, Monte, Vitality, and Liquid start off on a strong note   Na’Vi started off the day, facing off and winning against GamerLegion 16-19 and setting the tone for the day. But their joy was short-lived, as later in the day, Liquid beat them 16-8 on the fabled grounds of Inferno.   Liquid, in their first match, were pitted against 9INE. Coming from the Challengers stage, Liquid showed why they are big hopefuls to win the tournament. They beat 9INE who were sat in the Legends bracket after the RMRs 16-9. Monte continued their run of form against Furia and fnatic, beating both teams in their best-of-one match. Fnatic had started their day with a win against Ninjas in Pyjamas and looked in hot form until they faced off against Monte.

— HEROIC (@heroicgg) May 13, 2023   Heroic locked horns with FaZe, who had a rocky start to their Major campaign. And, once again, FaZe’s graph went on a downward trend when they lost against cadiaN’s giants 16-7. They continued their victory trail into their second match where they won against Apeks.    Apeks had carried their form from the Legends stage and beat Into the Breach 16-10. Vitality was one of the few teams beating the Challengers stage progressors when they sat G2 down on Nuke. ENCE, who had qualified with G2, beat the Bad News Eagles on Vertigo. But later in the day were given a taste of their own medicine by Vitality.    Monte and fnatic had an exciting matchup on Vertigo. Their game went into overtime, where we saw Monte getting the upper hand, and emerging as the victors, with the scoreline reading 19-17 in their favour.    The final four matches of the day had – NiP beat Furia, GamerLegion beating 9INE, G2 losing their second match-up after winning their first game against Vitality, and FaZe looking meak with their second loss in their match against Into the Breach.    Here's a look at the points table at the end of Day1 of the Legends stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 -   Paris major 2023 points table legends stage day 1

CS:GO Paris Major 2023: FaZe, Apeks, and NiP reserve their berths on the bus to the Legends stage

The stage is set. On the penultimate day of the Challengers stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, we saw three more teams join G2 and ENCE on the train to the Legends stage of the last-ever Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major. A total of seven best-of-three matches were played during the day, and when the dust (RIP Dust 2) had settled, we had five bands of CS players making their way to the next stage of the tournament.

Paris Major 2023 Challengers Stage - Day 3 - FaZe, NiP, and Apeks make the cut. paiN and Team Liquid left hanging

Things kicked off with Fluxo battling it out with Team Liquid, who are there at the Major with all the hopes and dreams of North American CS fans. Coming into this match, they were 1-2 down in their tally of wins, and things were looking bleak for them. But, they beat Fluxo 2-1 and evened out their score line. As it stands, Team Liquid sits at the cusp of qualification for the Legends stage.

The second match of the day saw Monte, who are yet to make the cut, face off against TheMongolz, who, after getting beaten 0-2 by the Ukrainian team, were given a ride to de_airport. Gamer Legion on the other hand, kept their qualification hopes alive by beating OG in their best-of-three match. Liquid also continued their run of form into their second match of the day when they beat their North American counterparts, Complexity, sending them back home.

FaZe rekindled the title dreams of their fans when they convincingly beat FORZE, who don’t seem to have found their footing as a roster. They have had their share of ups and downs and looked unsettled throughout the Challengers stage.

— BLAST.tv (@BLASTtv) May 10, 2023

The happiest surprise for the European CS fans was the qualification of Apeks. The team had had a great start to their Challengers stage journey but hit a couple of bumps on the way to the closing stages of this leg of the tournament. At the start of Day 3 of the Challengers stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023, they had two wins to their name in the three matches that they played. It all rested on their match against paiN, who were at the third spot in the table, with the same number of wins under their belt, by virtue of their superior round win-to-loss ratio.

Both teams duked it out in a three-map epic battle which saw the teams play on Ancient (won by Apeks, 16-11), Vertigo (won by paiN, 16-13), and Anubis (won by Apeks, 16-9). While it was all smiles for the Apeks players, the hopes of the fans and players of paiN, now is hanging by a string as they are set to face Monte, who have shown potential and could cast a dark shadow on the plans of paiN.

Ninjas in Pyjamas, in thier game of the day against Grayhound, beat the Aussie roster 2-0. And, at the end of it all, they were also handed their tickets to the Legends stage.

At the time of writing, the points table of the Challengers stage of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 looks like this –

On the last day of the Challengers stage, with three spots to spare, it will be interesting to see which team gets entry into the Legends stage, and which one gets sent back home. Here’s a look at Day 4 of the Challengers stage –

A new Call of Duty game reveal could be coming sometime this August

Well, it looks like we’re getting another Call of Duty game this year. With all the hullabaloo around the Activision Blizzard and Microsoft merger, the company is now looking at showing off its new Call of Duty game sometime in August. The new game doesn't have a name yet but it looks like it will be developed by Sledgehammer Games. The same developer who’d worked on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Vanguard and WW2. There are several reports that state the game will be revealed to the public on August 1. It seems that Activision is following the protocol as it has already Vanguard was also revealed on August 1, 2021.

New Call of Duty game coming soon?

Following that pattern, we can assume that the new Call of Duty game will be revealed at the same time. Earlier rumours had pegged the game to be showcased at Sony’s Playstation event later this month but from what we can discern the PlayStation showcase could just focus on Sony’s exclusives. With a rumoured reveal in August, we could expect the game to hit store shelves sometime in November. The rumoured date for the launch is November 10. The game will also reportedly feature Zombies as well. As it should since the zombie add-on has been a fan-favourite over the years.

New Call of Duty

The new Call of Duty game was previously thought to have been a part of the Modern Warfare series but there’s no way of verifying that claim. There are beta weekends in October that should give fans a taste of what’s to come but apart from that, all these rumours should be taken with a grain of salt as Activision has not officially released any statements.

Nintendo partners with Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat to introduce a Tears of the Kingdom filter

As the launch of the much-anticipated Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the Nintendo Switch draws nearer, the marketing for the game has finally picked up a bit of steam. Nintendo has partnered with Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram to introduce a new filter that counts down the days until its official launch. Dubbed ‘Adventure Awaits’, the filter layers over the video with a countdown timer, a gold tint and the logo of the game. We tried the filter out on our Instagram page and this is what it looks like.

Adventure Awaits

Tears of the Kingdom filter is now available on Snapchat, Facebook and Instagram

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is currently on track to being one of the biggest releases of the year and here’s how you can use the filter on your profile. If you are on Snapchat, you have to scan a code using the app or alternatively, you can head to Nintnedo’s Snapchat profile and follow the instructions there. You will also be able to share the filter-themed videos with your fans and family. For users on Facebook and Instagram, you can head to the Nintendo of America’s page and click on the ‘Effects’ tab to use the filter.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the game’s release since Breath of the Wild blew our collective minds with its innovative gameplay, incredibly beautiful open world and return to the days of a true adventure game. The game, along with Elden Ring was also the target of Western game developers who hated the design and wanted the game to implement ‘Western values and UI elements’ that have somewhat caused the death of the Western game.

WhatsApp to introduce Side-by-Side Chats for easy chat switching

According to reports, WhatsApp is examining an experimental feature for users of Android tablets. Users will be able to switch between several chats at once without losing track of the ongoing conversations. It will resemble what WhatsApp for Web already offers in terms of appearance.

The feature is still being evaluated among a small group of beta testers, but a stable release is anticipated soon. We're sure to learn about an iPad version of a comparable function in the near future because WhatsApp develops new features and improvements practically concurrently for Android and iOS devices.

Also read: WhatsApp introduces 3 new features for security and privacy

According to a recent claim from WhatsApp feature monitor website WABetaInfo, the social media network is introducing a side-by-side mode that would let users read and access numerous chats on one screen.

Similar to the WhatsApp for Web interface, each live chat will be displayed simultaneously in a split-screen format. Users who frequently need to access numerous chats at once will find this useful, and it also allows them greater control over the app's layout.

WhatsApp

According to a screenshot included in the aforementioned claim, customers will be presented with a toggle switch that will allow them to switch between enabling and disabling the feature as needed.

To access the feature, just follow through WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Side-by-side views.

Only a few beta users who are using WhatsApp for Android 2.23.9.20 are currently able to access this feature. According to the source, future upgrades will progressively push out a more secure version of the feature to all Android device users.

It's noteworthy that WhatsApp just revealed that customers can connect a maximum of four gadgets to their accounts. Similar to the WhatsApp Web signup process, it must be accessed using the primary enrolled smartphone and a QR code.

The social media platform mentioned that they are also developing a substitute for OTP-based authentication for this recently released multi-device login capability.

Activision takes charge of investigating Call of Duty: Warzone 2 server issues after fan outcry

It’s been a tough few weeks for the folks over at Activision as the launch of Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone 2 was not the hit they were expecting it to be. Fans have reported a number of issues with the game such as stuttering, inability to find an actual game and a ton of other server issues. The game was launched on April 12 and it took Activision a week to spring into action. The company has officially acknowledged the problem and is now actively investigating the issue.

Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Season 3 has been experiencing server-related problems

An official tweet from the company states that Activision is investigating reports of server-based issues. Streamers and fans alike have been calling out these issues for the past week and to be fair, Activision did jump right into the action as soon as they established that there was something seriously wrong with the launch of Call of Duty: Warsone Season 3. Streamers also reported glitches like malfunctioning parachutes and have been vocal about wanting immediate fixes.

We are investigating reports of server-related gameplay issues and are actively working to resolve them.https://t.co/uZcPLBMAZh

— Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) April 20, 2023

It’s unclear how the company missed these issues or if it was a matter of meeting the launch date regardless of the problems but we hope that these glitches and the like are fixed soon. Apart from stating that they are working on the problem, Activision has not given fans any sort of timeline regarding these server issues. This could take days to weeks, depending on the severity of the problem but at the very least, we know that they are currently working on solving these issues.

4 features to keep an eye out for on the Call of Duty: Warzone 20 season 3 update

Warzone 2.0 Season 3 of Call of Duty will see a few changes and features to the base game. In an official statement on the Call of Duty blog, the company addressed pacing issues such as time-to-kill, weapon damage, armour values, movement mechanics, defensive tools, outplay opportunities and more. With these new changes, we could see a slight shift in gameplay and how players can approach each encounter. So, without any further ado, let’s see what the new Season 3 update brings.

Changes in pacing:

As mentioned above, there will be significant improvements to the way the game is paced. We’ll see improvements to the core of the Battle Royale experience. There will be a reduced delay time between the closing of circles somewhere in the midgame. There will also be more ammo caches and buy stations in late-game areas. This will serve to support regain in these zones. UAV towers will also be dishing out intel and push you toward more combat.

Call of duty

Combat and Movement

There will be more weapons for users to try out like the one-hit sniper rifles. These weapons were first tested during the St Patrick’s Day event and will now make it into the game. Redeploy drones also make an appearance on Ashika Island and will give players a faster mode of travel. There are also a few changes to the game HUD including reduced damage feedback. Season 3 will also see the inclusion of the Bomb Drone update so that it will no longer be one-hit-down and can instead support flushing and/or pushing an enemy squad.

QoL improvements

Users will gain access to elevation arrows on the Tac Map. This will help identify targets easier, giving you the opportunity to plan your attack. If you thought the ‘Incoming Killstreak’ message was a bit intrusive, you can rest easy as the message has been moved further away from the reticule to give you a better line of sight.

There will be more info regarding modes and such coming soon so stay tuned to Digit.in for more Call of Duty news.

State of India Gaming Report

According to the report, the number of gamers in India grew fourfold year on year from 150,000 in 2021 to 600,000 in 2022. It could jump another 2.5x in the coming 5 years to hit 1.5 million users by 2027.

The whole industry reportedly raked in $40 million last year and is said to touch $140 million by 2027 at a CAGR of 32 percent.

State of India Gaming Report

Well, the players are not only participating, but they are also paying up as around 64% of paying gamers spend on in-app purchases, and about 57% of them are on subscription payments.

Overall, a large percentage of players up to 59% have apparently started spending on games in the last year. More of these players (around 50%) are interested in casual games, closely followed by a demand for mic-core titles at 48% and finally, hyper-casual and RMG games at 39 percent.

The potential to earn is the key impetus for 45% of paying players. Willingness to pay and better content as well as in-game goodies also excite players to pay up.

2. Change in gaming preferences

As already discussed, more people are playing casual games like Candy Crush and Ludo King. Not only that, a significant number of players at about 35% have revealed that they have increased their play hours in the last 12 months.

Sony PS5 price cut by 5000: Heres the new price of all PlayStation 5 models

Sony India has slashed the price of both Standard and Digital versions of PlayStation 5. The new PS5 discount amount is ₹5000 and which brings down the PlayStation 5 Standard model’s price to ₹49,990 and the Digital edition’s price to ₹39,990. Here’s when it will be applicable, among other details:

Sony PS5's new pricing

Sony PS5's

The ₹5000 Sony PS5 price drop will be part of a special summer promotional offer. It will be a limited-period deal that starts on April 1.

That reduces the current price of PS5 Standard from ₹54,990 to ₹49,990 and ₹44,990 to ₹39,990. As you may notice, these are the launch price of the two PS5 models in India. The company had hiked the pricing last year and now it returns to the original pricing.

Update from Sony: ‘PlayStation India has announced a special summer promotional offer wherein customers can avail INR 5000/-* off on purchase of all variants of PS5 console. This offer starts from 1st April 2023 onwards and will be valid for a limited period only.’ #PS5 #PS5India https://t.co/oPKwrm9Vhd

— 0xSkeptic | Cringe Connoisseur (@RishiAlwani) March 25, 2023

Rishi Alwani, who first broke this story also reveals the new price of the PS5 God of War Ragnarok bundle will be ₹54,990, which is again a ₹5000 discount from its current price tag of ₹59,990.

Also, in case you’re wondering, the new PS5 pricing is likely to be applicable on leading stores like Amazon, Flipkart, Sony Center, and e2z Store.

This move hints at Sony’s confidence in the current PS5 stock situation, and seems to be a move at attracting more buyers for the PlayStation 5 in India. Back at CES 2023, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, Jim Ryan had said that “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward”.

Let’s see how the Japanese console maker’s new decision plays out.

PlayStation 5 to restock in India on March 10: Here are the details

The Sony PlayStation 5 will be up for pre-booking once again. The pre-bookings are scheduled to be held on February 22, 12 PM onwards. The console was earlier available for pre-booking on February 7.

PlayStation 5

This year is turning out to be a pretty good year for gamers looking to buy the Sony PlayStation 5 because Sony is restocking PlayStation 5 pretty frequently. Previously, PS5 got restocked on February 22. According to a press release by Sony, the PS5 will be up for pre-booking from March 10 at 12 PM onwards.

The PlayStation 5 will be available for pre-booking on e-commerce platforms like ShopatSC, Amazon, Flipkart, Croma, Reliance Digital, Games The Shop, Vijay Sales and select other authorised retail partners.

Sony PS5 restock in India

While the console will now be up for pre-booking more than three times this year, it doesn't look like the shortage of stock is going to go away anytime soon.

The console is available for pre-booking with a God of War Ragnarök Bundle and a standalone PS5 disc version.

PlayStation 5

However, the prices for the PS5 have changed after the November hike. So, the price for the digital version will come down to ₹44,990, whereas the disc version of PS5 will be available at a price of ₹54,990. If you're planning to purchase The God of War Ragnarök bundle, you will have to shell out ₹59,390. This is ₹5,400 more than the Horizon Forbidden West bundle that was priced at ₹53,990 in August 2022.

PS5 restocks are occurring with a higher frequency in India, indicating that the supply of the console is improving. Last month saw two PS5 restocks in the country for the first time since its debut in 2020. Furthermore, local stores are now stocking PS5 units, leading to the conclusion that purchasing a PS5 is becoming much simpler in India.

Source 2 finally coming to CS:GO Heres what we know about Counter-Strike 2

If you have been active on any social media platforms of late, then you would have come across the news about ‘Counter-Strike 2’. Touted to be the next title in the Counter-Strike franchise, fans and experts associated with the game, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, can’t seem to get a break from talking about it. News and rumours have been flooding the internet, with the latest one coming from none other than Richard Lewis, the fabled eSports journalist.

In case you did not know, fans of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive have been eagerly awaiting the long-due port of the game to Valve’s Source 2 game engine. There have been theories and rumours in the past that died out as quickly as they caught steam (pun intended) in the gaming communities. However, this time around, things seem to be much more serious.

Heading for the source

Richard Lewis, in his blog post about the release of CS2, said that the release is not only a reality but would meet the eyes of the players sooner than anyone thought. He quoted one of his sources saying – “The big priority is getting this out and then polishing it, fixing any bugs and bringing it up to the level people expect from CS.”

Latest on Substack: I'm as surprised as everyone but it turns out not only is Counter-Strike 2 real but it's coming very soon. Sources with a knowledge of the games development reveal details of the upcoming beta release.https://t.co/ogSk5QnU6L

— Richard Lewis (@RLewisReports) March 5, 2023

That’s not all. If Richard’s report is anything to go by, then the new release could come packing with a load of other features like 128-tick servers as well. However, he also mentioned that the addition of these new features, especially the port to Source 2, could impact the game’s performance on lower-end PCs.

Recently, a Twitter user by the name of Aquarius (@aquaismissing) had spotted files named “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe” in NVIDIA’s recently released drivers, sparking the whole ‘Counter-Strike 2’ conversation.

Counter Strike 2

His Tweet was quoted by many in the community and attracted tons of attention from the who's who of the CS:GO scene. Even the professional teams weren’t left untouched by the hype train that is Counter-Strike 2. Some teams engaged in conversation with their fans, while others drafted their wishlists about the game. It was like a celebration!

After all these years, Source 2 finally seems to be within the grasp of CS:GO players. The player base of the game is at an all-time high, and its popularity seems to be rising a decade after its release. So, while we wait for the game to get it one of its biggest overhauls in years, let's hope that after the changes, it continues to be the battleground that we have cherished all these years.  For more technology news, product reviews, sci-tech features and updates, keep reading Digit.in or head to our Google News page.
