Google to redesign Play Store for tablets, foldables, and Chromebooks: Whats new

Google plans to redesign Play Store's interface for tablets and foldables by 2023, and the company has shared a glimpse of what we can expect. Although it has disclosed one software aspect, this shows Google's overall commitment to tablets. Google has detailed some features coming to the app store on tablets, foldables, and Chromebooks, and the company gave insights into the update via some screenshots and clips.

Android Tablet 2023

Google shared a single (low-resolution) picture highlighting the changes coming to the Play Store for tablets and foldables in 2023. The current Play Store tablet design is nothing but the Play Store for smartphones stretched for a big screen. Thus, the new upgrade would be a significant overhaul. Google shared the screenshots offering the description and videos related to the update directly and stated that this is a "content-forward approach." In addition, the company informed its users that this would merely be a visual change and would not impact the app promotions. The screenshot shared by Google also revealed the presence of a dedicated Kids section, situated at the bottom of the left sidebar with the Games, Apps, Books, and Offers.

An old Android tablet UI

Google is also providing developers with resources and tips on making the best of their apps, including capturing as many screenshots as possible and promoting using imagery rather than a block of texts. The Play Store upgrade for large-screen devices would likely align with the release of the Pixel Tablet early next year, or it can even be with the Pixel Fold, which will arrive before the end of 2023's first quarter. More details about this UI facelift will be revealed in the months leading to the release of the company's flagship tablet.

Samsung and Google announce partnership on cross-platform compatibility for smart devices

On October 13, 2022, South Korean tech giant Samsung announced its partnership with the Alphabet-owned Google “to elevate smart home experiences.” As a part of the partnership, the companies are working towards making it easier to control smart home devices made by different makers. Samsung and Google have achieved the same by developing the Matter protocol, which acts as a bridge between the Google Home and Samsung SmartThings devices.

How does the Matter protocol co-developed by Samsung and Google work?

As the Matter protocol comes in place, users opening the SmartThings app will get information about the Matter-enabled devices initially set up with Google Home. Then, users can easily onboard those devices to SmartThings app, and the same is true for Google Home. Essentially, this eliminates the cross-platform compatibility limitations that prevailed and allows users to experience an open ecosystem wherein devices manufactured by different companies support each other.

As stated by Samsung, the Matter protocol will be rolled out in the coming weeks. It will be helpful for people who own a few smart home devices manufactured by different companies. Once it is rolled out, users won’t have to worry about which smart device they should purchase. Previously, one had to check the maker, the supported app, and the ecosystem before investing in a smart home device.

The multi-admin feature seems to be the key highlight of the new Matter protocol

In the official press release, Samsung mentions that “Matter standard’s multi-admin capabilities provide the foundation for connecting devices directly to multiple apps and ecosystems, giving consumers more flexibility and choice.” Further, the company adds that it is building on “multi-admin, allowing users to seamlessly find, choose to connect and control Matter-enabled devices through SmartThings or Google Home apps on Android.”

Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series launch delayed: Expected to release next year

Samsung launches its flagship premium tablet series every year. Early this year, Samsung released the S8 series - the Galaxy Tab S8, Galaxy Tab S8+, and theGalaxy Tab S8 Ultra. Reports confirmed that the world's second-largest tablet company delayed the development of the next-gen S9 series, and concluded that the launch of the tablet has also been postponed. The development scheduled to start in December 2022 will now begin early next year.

As per the report, Samsung has decided to delay its flagship next-gen Tab, the Galaxy S9 series. The pandemic has almost ended, resulting in declining demand for IT products, and it has hindered the company's plan of producing 33.6 million units of tablets in 2022.

A new plan for Samsung's flagship next-gen Tab

The global economic instability has disrupted the overall tablet market. DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) predicts a fall in the tablet market by 8% this year. However, the market can expect a 22% rise in the OLED and Mini LED premium tablet categories.

After the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series and the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 series, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series will also include three models, the reports confirmed. The Vanilla model will sport an LCD screen, while the Plus version and the Ultra variant will feature an OLED panel.

Samsung has kept the launch dates under wrap, but users can expect the release of the latest Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 series in the second half of 2023.

Google Pixel foldable phone and pro tablet details surface: Find them here

Google is likely planning a Pixel foldable smartphone and a new Pro tablet, and the new hardware has been spotted in the Android 13 code.

Within the first in-development build of Android 13 quarterly platform release by Google, developers have spotted a detachable Pixel tablet and the rumoured Pixel foldable.

Developers have spotted "Felix" foldable device, with a 64MP Sony IMX787 primary sensor and a 10.8MP Samsung S5K3J1 telephoto lens on the back of the phone.

The device could also house an 8MP Sony IMX355 sensor (the same one used by the Pixel 6A) on the inside, reports Android Police.

The smartphone could fold horizontally like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold.

According to developer Kuba Wojciechowski, Google released the first beta for Android 13 QPR1 beta and with it a lot of updated code.

It includes "new camera drivers, revealing some details about their upcoming products. I have found some details about a yet-unknown foldable, another tablet and more," he posted in a tweet.

"As of now, we know about two foldable devices from Google - passport and pipit," he said.

The first one has been canceled, but the status of the other one was unknown.

"Recently we've heard that the display production for their foldable would start in 4 months," said the developer. Google was yet to make any comment. The company will hold a Pixel 7 launch event on October 6.

New entry-level iPad, M2 iPad Pro may arrive in October

San Francisco, Aug 16 (IANS) Tech giant Apple is likely to launch a new entry-level iPad with a larger screen along with an iPad Pro refresh, upgrading the chip from M1 to the M2.

A leaker claimed that the 10th-generation iPad and the iPad Pro will see some changes during the period, reports AppleInsider.

In a Naver post by a leaker account, a source from China claimed that an October event could occur and play host to iPad changes.

While it may not necessarily be an October event, the leaker said it would be at an additional event held after the launch of the iPhone 14.

The new 10th-generation iPad is claimed in the leak to have a thinner new design with a more square shape and a flat bezel, unifying the design aesthetic across the entire iPad range.

It is also said to have a more prominent display than the existing 10.2-inch screen, but without mentioning the exact size.

The model will also allegedly sport an A14 Bionic chip, support 5G, gain a protruding rear camera bump, and lose the 3.5mm headphone jack.

At the same time as updating the entry-level iPad, Apple will also reportedly upgrade the iPad Pro. However, the leaker merely says the chip will be updated from M1 to M2 in the premium tablet line.

Microsoft wanted an iPad so they built their own and launched it in India Here are its specs

Microsoft went Apple’s route and launched an ARM-based Windows tablet in India called the Surface Pro X, not to be confused with the Intel-powered Surface lineup it already sells. The new tablet has something different because similar to an Apple iPad, the Surface Pro X uses a custom-made SoC (System on Chip which contains the CPU, GPU) called SQ1 and SQ2.

These are Qualcomm chips designed to run an ARM-based Windows 11 OS. For the uninitiated, ARM is an instruction set, which is essentially a command for CPU in machine language. The Windows platform traditionally uses the X86 instruction set usually found in Intel and AMD CPUs but the Surface Pro X with its SQ 1 ARM chip uses the ARM instruction set. “How different is the experience though” I hear the anxious PC audience asking but I can only tell you that once I get my hands on the tablet, until then here’s all you need to know about its specs and other important details.

Microsoft Surface Pro X specs features details price in India

Microsoft Surface Pro X Specs, Details, And Price In India

The Microsoft Surface Pro X is the thinnest and most versatile 13-inch Surface device on the market, that’s not me claiming it but Microsoft’s press release. It weighs in at just 774grams the tablet is packing in a custom-made 8-core ARM-based Microsoft SoC. I cannot predict its performance but right off the bat, it’s safe to say that the device’s battery life will be more than the Intel-powered version because of the change in the Instruction set.

Furthermore, the Surface Pro X comes with a 5.0MP front-facing camera with 1080p video recording capabilities that automatically adjusts to lighting conditions. The camera software also has an AI that makes sure that the selfie camera follows your gaze. Microsoft also claims that a combination of dual far-field Studio Mics and optimized speakers deliver the best video calling experience, so I am making a mental note to test this feature thoroughly as I am writing this article.

The Surface Pro X does look stunning though thanks to a high-resolution 13-inch PixelSense touchscreen which also has a built-in kickstand. The Surface Pro X also has a signature keyboard with dedicated storage and a charging flap for Slim Pen 2. In terms of I/O, the Surface Pro X has two USB Type-C ports and a dedicated magnetic Surflink featuring an extra USB Type-A.

Remember that I mentioned that Windows traditionally runs on X86-based CPUs as well as it turns out so does most of its native apps like Microsoft Office, Teams, and third-party software like Photoshop and Lightroom. The Surface Pro X is ARM-based so such apps should not work as well but Microsoft is ensuring us that they do thanks to a high level of optimization. All these things and more will be put to test once we get the device and if you want to purchase the tablet right now then here are the available configurations.

Microsoft Surface Go 3 tablet tipped to launch this month with the same design and Intel chips

Microsoft's Surface Go tablet range has been one of the more unique offerings in the tablet space, and it looks like the company is all set to bring the next unit in the series, the Surface Go 3 tablet. It's currently speculated to arrive later this month when the company is slated to announce a couple of new hardware offerings.

While we wait for that to happen, we have some leaked information about this upcoming tablet, and it looks like we'll once again be seeing Intel chips in use for these tablets instead of ARM. German publication WinFuture.de has reported that the Microsoft Surface Go 3 may come in two different variants. However, both of them are expected to make use of the Intel chips.

Microsoft Surface Go tablet

One of them is expected to be powered by the Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y processor, a dual-core CPU with a base frequency of 1.10 GHz. The other model will most likely be powered by an Intel Core i3-10100Y processor, a relatively older quad-core unit with a base frequency of 3.60 GHz. This particular info appears to be extracted from the tablet's listing on Geekbench's database.

Microsoft Surface Go 3 expected specifications and features

The Surface Go 3 is also expected to feature the same 10.5-inch full-HD display as the predecessor. One can also expect to see a fold-out stand to go along with the tablet. Sadly, that's all the info we have about the tablet for now, but luckily we won't have to wait too long to see what Microsoft's been cooking for us behind the scenes.

Microsoft's virtual event is also expected to see the launch of Surface Duo 2. This particular device is also expected to have the same dual-screen design that saw earlier on the original model. We'll definitely have more to talk about these devices soon, so stay tuned.
