Gmail on Android starts getting Material Design theme

Highlights: Google starts rolling out Material Design theme for Gmail on Android. The update will be extended to iOS in the coming weeks. It brings features like Smart Compose and Smart Reply.   Google has been painting all its services white signifying its Material Design theme and Gmail for Android is the latest app to get the Material Design treatment. Google says that this theme is a visual language that combines good design with the innovation of technology and science, and is developed to give users a unified user experience across platforms, devices, and input methods. Material Design theme on Gmail for Android is a “gradual rollout,” and in the coming weeks, the update will be extended to iOS. “Today, we’re kicking off the year with a new look for Gmail on mobile, too. As part of the new design, you can quickly view attachments—like photos—without opening or scrolling through the conversation. It’s also easier to switch between personal and work accounts, so you can access all of your emails without breaking a sweat. And just like on the web, you’ll get big, red warnings to alert you when something looks phish-y,” Google said in a blogpost. According to the company, this update is part of a larger effort “to make G Suite look and act like a family of products, designed in the Google Material Theme with ease-of-use in mind.” Notably, the company has already rolled out the update to the web experiences for Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and most recently Google Docs and Sites. Google also says that the Gmail on iOS will get this refresh “in the coming weeks,” and more G Suite mobile apps will get the design later this year. The update to Gmail for Android brings features from the web app to the mobile app. Some of these features were previewed at the Google Cloud Next conference in San Francisco last year. Now, Android users can also take advantage of the machine learning-based Smart Compose feature on Gmail, or reply to messages quicker with suggested responses generated by Smart Reply. Users can also follow up on emails with reminders in the inbox as well. We haven’t got the update till now, but as showcased by Google last year, Gmail’s thick red accents are gone. There is a search bar on the top that features the navigation drawer on the left and a profile avatar at the right. At the bottom-right is a new multi-colored Floating Action Button (FAB). The new inbox view also lists images, files, and other attachments for quick access. Most recently, Google brought the Chrome OS version 69 with Material Design. Redmi Note 7 India launch teased once again, possibly taking a jab at Samsungs Galaxy M series

Xiaomi and Redmi are now separate brands, but the latter still comes under Xiaomi’s umbrella, just like Poco. The first phone to launch with the standalone Redmi branding was the Redmi Note 7, which became official in China on January 10. The phone is now headed to India and both Xiaomi and Redmi have been teasing the device’s 48MP camera setup on their Indian social media handles. Last week, the Redmi Note 7 teasers promised market disruption, hinting at a highly competitive pricing for the device. Now, just a couple of days after Samsung launched its new budget and mid-range Galaxy M10 and Galaxy M20 smartphones in India, Xiaomi and Redmi are once again teasing the imminent launch of the Redmi Note 7 in India. Only this time, it looks like the teaser takes a jab at the new Galaxy M series. The head-turning teaser posted by Xiaomi and Redmi states - “Good things come to those who wait.” Since the text is inverted, the ‘W’ in wait is highlighted to look like an ‘M’. The teaser image is accompanied by the words 48MP, referring to the 48MP camera setup on the Redmi Note 7. Multiple comments on the teaser tweeted out by Xiaomi and Redmi suggest that the Redmi Note 7 could launch in India on February 14. Xiaomi could also unveil the Redmi Note 7 Pro alongside the Redmi Note 7 in India. If that is the case, the Feb 14 Valentine’s Day launch could be possible since Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro in India on the same date last year. In fact, the launch of the Redmi Note 7 Pro was tipped to happen in February and a recent report had even claimed that the Redmi Note 7, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Go will all be launched in India in the first quarter of 2019.   It's gonna be legen… wait for it… dary! #ԀW8ᔭ pic.twitter.com/qUYb4a9myp — Mi India (@XiaomiIndia) January 29, 2019   Redmi Note 7 Specs Given its China pricing, the Redmi Note 7 is the the most affordable 48MP camera smartphone. On the front, the Redmi Note 7 has a 13MP shooter with AI enhancements for face beautification and portrait mode. A 4,000mAh battery powers the device. Sony Xperia XZ4 specs leak ahead of MWC 2019

Highlights: Spec sheet of the upcoming Xperiz XZ4 has leaked online. The phone is expected to feature a 21:9 display aspect ratio.   Details about Sony's upcoming flagship smartphone continue to leak before the company's anticipated announcement of it at MWC in Barcelona. What we have with us this time around is a leaked specifications sheet of what appears to be the Sony Xperia XZ4, thanks to sumahoinfo.com. Since we can't confirm if the spec sheet really does belong to the Xperia XZ4, we recommend you take this news with a touch of salt. If the information from the spec sheet's screenshot holds good, it means what we've learnt about the new flagship so far is correct. Assuming the model in the leaked spec sheet is the Sony Xperia XZ4, we see that it has a 6.4-inch OLED display with an unusually tall 21:9 aspect ratio. The display is said to have support for HDR and a maximum resolution of 3360 x 1440 pixels. The display should be protected by Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. The Sony Xperia XZ4 is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with 6GB of RAM onboard. Internal storage is expected to be 128GB in capacity with support for expandable storage using microSD card. The leak suggests that the Sony Xperia XZ4 will measure 167mm in height, 72mm in width, and 8.2mm in thickness. It also suggests it'll weigh 191g, which is on the heavier side. Like its predecessor, the Sony Xperia XZ4 is expected to be IP68-certified, which means taking it into the shower shouldn't be a worry. The phone has been rumoured to come in a dark purple colour, apart from the usual black. The Sony Xperia XZ4 is assumed to ship with Android Pie running right out of the box. It's also assumed to feature a big 4,400mAh battery inside it. Unfortunately, there's now information available on the phone's optics or pricing in the leak. Online tipster Ice universe recently shared the video of a mock demo, in which they'd simulated video-watching on the Sony's tall 21:9 display. The tipster had uploaded the video on YouTube and had shared it on Twitter. The video doesn't tell us much but gives us an idea of the length of the display when the phone is held in landscape mode. We expect to learn more about Sony's upcoming flagship in the coming days. Realme working on its own RealmeOS UI, may ditch Oppos ColorOS: Report

Key Highlights: Realme is reportedly planning to ditch Oppo's ColorOS. The now-independent brand filed for a trademark application for "RealmeOS" in the United Kingdom. The company is also reportedly working on its own app store. Realme was the dark horse in 2018, after releasing six smartphones in its debut year and registering a staggering 600 percent growth during the festival season. The brand launched as a subsidiary of Oppo initially, but after the Realme 1, it started to operate independently, led by Oppo’s VP Sky Li. However, so far all Realme phones relied on ColorOS, a custom interface developed by Oppo. According to a new report by 91Mobiles, however, Realme may soon implement it’s own custom interface in its phone, ditching Oppo’s ColorOS. The report claims that Realme filed a trademark application with the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office for “RealmeOS”, indicating the company may be developing its own Android interface. The trademark application states the name “RealmeOS” can be used for OS programs, software to maintain and operate computer systems, and downloadable apps for mobile devices, among others. A custom OS is not the only thing Realme is reportedly working on. An earlier report claimed the nascent company is also developing its own app store that will serve as an alternative to Google Play Store. It could be possible that this is a move to enter the Chinese market, where Google does not offer its services and every OEM has to rely on their own app store. In India, Realme quickly propelled to become one of the top smartphone brands in India. The company offered phones with powerful hardware at affordable prices, often undercutting the competition. However, it was the ColorOS UI that many in the Realme community asked to be improved or replaced with something more attuned to stock Android. Perhaps, the new “RealmeOS” is a move to fix that.
