Realme Smart TV up for blind order ahead of May 25 launch

We may not know all the details about the upcoming Realme TV, but it looks like those interested can order the TV. Called a blind order, customers interested need to pay Rs 2000 before May 24. According to the Realme website, “realme TV buyer will receive a Rs 500 off coupon on every single order above Rs 5000 which will be credited to the account on 1st June”.

What is the Realme Smart TV blind order?

Apart from the above Rs 500 benefit, the blind order ensures 100% chance for a customer to purchase the TV in advance. The customer will need to login and pay the Rs 2000 on realme’s India website. The Rs 500 coupon will be sent in the account automatically on June 1.

Realme Smart TV specifications

A few of the specifications of the upcoming Realme TV have been listed on the company’s website. The Realme Smart TV boasts of slim bezels to give viewers an immersive viewing experience. The TV also boasts of “Chroma Boost Picture Engine” and we will have to wait for more details on what this engine does. However, a very interesting specification highlighted is the 400 nits of brightness on the TV. This means that the TV could support HDR.

Moving on, under the hood, the Realme TV is powered by the MediaTek 64-bit quad-core processor with ARM Cortex-A53 CPU and a Mali 470 GPU. The TV also claims to have 24W stereo sound with 4 speakers. 24W sound overall isn’t much considering most TVs come with 20W of sound, to begin with. 24W in 4 speakers would mean each speaker gets 6W of sound output. It is highly unlikely that each speaker has 24W of output, but we will have to wait and watch.

There is also an image that says, “Hey, turn on my Realme Smart TV” hinting at voice assistant support which we think means that the TV will run on the Android TV platform with support for the Google Assistant.

New OnePlus TV could launch in 2020, remote control spotted on Bluetooth SIG

It looks like OnPlus is set to refresh the OnePlus TV in its 2020 avatar. According to 9to5Google, “two new OnePlus devices were listed with the Bluetooth SIG, using the same “1+ LED TV” and “1+ Remote Control” names last year. Interestingly, where the Bluetooth listing for the OnePlus TV that launched last year showed 39 different model numbers, today’s listing simply offers one — “55UA0A00.” So, it looks like the TV will have a 55-inch display, which seems to be the premium size of TVs for consumers in India. In the past year, the 43-inch and 55-inch TV sizes have seen growth with the larger than 55-inch screen size seeing slightly less growth. Other information from the listing suggests that the TV will use an updated MediaTek chip but it isn't clear as to which chip this is. It also looks like the remote control will get a redesign.

When OnePlus launched the OnePlus TV in India, one of its weakest elements was the remote control with its unergonomic design and awkwardly placed volume rocker. It looks like OnePlus is working at rectifying this and redesigning the remote control.

When OnePlus launched the OnePlus Q1 and Q1 Pro in 2019, the two TVs came with the same panel, features, and remote control. The only difference in the two was that the Q1 Pro came with the unique spine-like tabletop stand and a sliding out soundbar whereas the Q1 lacked the sliding soundbar (but still had decent speakers) and the tabletop stand had to be purchased separately.

The OnePlus TV that launched last year ran on the Android TV platform and came with a bunch of nifty features that one could access using the smartphone companion app. If you are in the market to pick up a 55-inch 4K TV you can check out our list of best 55-inch 4K TVs here.

Aarogya Setu app made mandatory for domestic air travel: Report

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly made it mandatory for passengers flying on domestic flights to have the Aarogya Setu app installed on their phones. According to a report by PTI, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to airport operators on Wednesday. This comes shortly after it was announced that domestic flights in India would resume from May 25 onwards.

The SOP has also reportedly instructed airport operators to make appropriate arrangements for sanitation of a passenger’s baggage before their entry into the terminal building. It should be noted that while AAI manages over 100 airports in the country, some major airports like the ones in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are operated by private companies.

Earlier this month, the Ministry for Railways had announced that the Aarogya Setu app was mandatory for passengers travelling via train. The app was also recently made available on the JioPhone.

The Indian government is also relaxing its stance on the app. A few days ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs released new guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown. Companies have been asked to ensure the installation of the app by employees on a “best effort basis”. Further, local authorities can now only “advise” people to install the app instead of forcing them to download it.

AMD Zen3 architecture to support 400-series chipset on the AM4 socket

During the keynote at CES 2017, AMD announced that they were committing to supporting the AM4 socket till 2020. However, AMD announced the Zen3 architecture and revealed that unfortunately, the AM4 socket would not be supported by the new architecture. This would mean AMD having to go back on their word from 2017, causing a lot of the user base, especially those who just purchased B450 and X470 based motherboards. Well, AMD has some good news for you, well, sort of.

AMD has announced that they will continue to support the AM4 socket, particularly the B450 and X470 chipset based motherboards with a firmware update, however, there are going to be a significant number of caveats. For starters, not all AM4 boards are going to be a part of the upgrade plan. It is only the B450 and X470 chipset-based boards. AMD issued a statement where they outlined the plan for extending the support for these boards.

The B450 and X470 boards will get Beta BIOSes updates that AMD will develop together with its OEM partners. The first cautionary comes in the form of the fact that once flashed and updated to the new Zen 3 architecture, the BIOS will no longer support any older generation CPU. Further, once the new BIOSes is flashed, it cannot be rolled back, making the change permanent. “To reduce the potential for confusion, our intent is to offer BIOS download only to verified customers of 400 Series motherboards who have purchased a new desktop processor with “Zen 3” inside. This will help us ensure that customers have a bootable processor on-hand after the BIOS flash, minimizing the risk a user could get caught in a no-boot situation” says the press release issued by the company.

AMD does conclude the statement by saying that they still recommend users buy a 500 series board in order to be able to use all the features and performance offered by the AMD silicon. This probably means that if you’re using an older board with a Zen3 architecture-based CPU, you may not be able to utilize all the features that would be on offer.

It truly is remarkable that AMD has managed to extend the life of the AM4 socket for so long. Introduced originally in 2016, the AM4 socket was also backwards compatible with processors that used an older socket like the AM3+. The socket has remained in place through the Zen+, Zen2 and now Zen 3 architecture. Intel, on the other hand, implements a new socket every two generations, leaving users with only expensive upgrade paths. Even for the same socket, Intel is notorious for forcing upgrades. The LGA 1151 socket supported Sky Lake and Kaby Lake CPUs, but for Coffee Lake, Intel decided to rearrange some of the pin contacts, including the processor detection pin. This broke the compatibility of the LGA1151 socket with Sky Lake and Kaby Lake, and the socket was designated LGA 1151 Rev 2.0. While Intel has justified moves like these by saying that this is the only way to let users enjoy all the features of newer processors, it still makes for a very expensive upgrade. AMD, on the other hand, has at least given the users the option to continue using their existing hardware, even if it means not getting to enjoy some features.
