OnePlus 7 case renders leak once again: Cut-out for pop-up selfie shooter, rear triple cameras spotted

Last month, renders of the OnePlus 7 cases surfaced online showing a cut-out for the rumoured pop-up selfie snapper. Now, a few more case renders have been leaked corroborating the news about the placement of the cameras. In the latest case renders, the cut-outs for the pop-up selfie shooter and the triple camera on back are seen exactly at the same place as they were on the previous renders.

The latest leak further cements claims that the OnePlus 7 will sport a notch-less and a near edge-to-edge display design. On the bottom edge of the case, there are cutouts for a USB-C port, the loudspeaker and two microphones. An elongated rectangular cutout on the top edge suggests the pop-up camera's placement. The volume rocker protection bulge is seen on the left edge, and the power button and alert slider are placed on the right.

OnePlus 7 has already been shown off in various hands-on images and video renders, and even the colour options (purple, blue and black) of the phone have already been leaked. Last month, the phone was seen listed on an e-tailer's website for $569, which roughly translates to Rs 40,000. The listing showed that the phone will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 mobile platform, which is a given.

The phone may ship with up to 12GB RAM, and it might offer up to 256GB of storage. It is said to have Android Pie-based OxygenOS 9 and could sport a 6.5-inch AMOLED display. In the camera department, the OnePlus 7 may have a 48MP sensor, a 20MP sensor, and a 16MP lens completing the triple camera system on the back. Its front camera is speculated to have a 16MP sensor. The OnePlus 7 may ship with a 4,000 mAh battery that supports 44W Dash Charging.

Meanwhile, the company has reduced OnePlus 6T prices by up to 400 Yuan in China, a move likely to be aimed at decreasing the size of the inventory. This can be taken as a hint that the OnePlus 7 may launch soon. The 6GB RAM + 128GB storage version of the OnePlus 6T now starts at 2,299 Yuan in China. The 8GB RAM + 128GB storage version can now be purchased for 3,199 Yuan, and the 8GB RAM + 256 GB storage version now costs 3,599 Yuan. There is no price drop is seen on the OnePlus India website.

Related Read:

OnePlus CEO hints at launch of truly wireless earphones alongside company’s upcoming flagship

Samsung Galaxy J-series is being merged with Galaxy A-series of phones

India, without a doubt, has a price-conscious smartphone market where Chinese smartphones currently rule the roster. While Samsung’s high-end premium flagship ‘S’ series and ‘Note’ series of handsets are some of the best devices around, the company has been revamping its entry-level and budget devices to reinvigorate and recapture its lost market share in these segments. It introduced its Galaxy A and Galaxy M series of phones in India, in January and February this year respectively. Now, a new video posted from the company’s Malaysia YouTube page confirms that it is merging its Galaxy J series with the Galaxy A series.

The video doesn’t give much information about how or what changes will be made to the Samsung J-series of handsets. The company announces phones from entry-level to mid-range under its Galaxy-J series. Merging it with the Galaxy-A series does mean that Samsung is further streamlining its offerings. The Smartphone maker introduced some high-end features like quad cameras and Infinity display design on its Galaxy-A series of phones, which means the J-series handsets being merged could receive a complete overhaul in terms of both, design and hardware. Additionally, the news comes a day before the company is slated to launch its new Galaxy A90 smartphone.

The Galaxy A90 is expected to be the company’s upcoming upper mid-range smartphone and alongside it, it could announce two more phones, the Galaxy A40 and the Galaxy A20e. Ahead of the official announcement, the Galaxy A90 was spotted on an e-commerce website listing from the UK and a report hints at its complete specs. The smartphone is said to come equipped with a 6.7-inch AMOLED display offering a 2400 x 1080p resolution and might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7150 processor. The company usually employs its own Exynos SoCs on phones that are being launched in Asian countries but equipping a Snapdragon platform suggests that the devices might be launched in other regions as well.

Additionally, the Galaxy A90 might sport a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor with an f/2.0 aperture lens. It might sport an 8MP secondary sensor with f/2.4 aperture and a tertiary ToF camera sensor for better depth perception. Some reports about the handset suggest an interesting new camera mechanism that rotates to capture selfies.

Related Reads:

Samsung Galaxy A90, Galaxy A40 and Galaxy A20e listed on official UK website

Samsung Galaxy A90 specs leaked ahead of April 10 launch

Twitter aims to combat spammers by limiting daily follows to 400

The popular micro-blogging platform Twitter has its fair share of problems when it comes to fake accounts and spammers. To clean up its systems, the company has taken another step that is meant to remove fake accounts or spammers from the platform. Twitter is now limiting its users to follow only 400 accounts in a day, down from 1000. Standard Twitter users might think that following even 400 accounts in a day is a bit too much, which has been iterated in replies to the announcement by Twitter Safety. However, spammers are more likely to use automated means to do so and can easily follow and unfollow 1000 accounts in a day.

One might be thinking about how limiting the number of users one can follow in a day helps with booting fake accounts from the platform. Getting a large number of followers at once is considered a growth hack and such short cuts are mostly taken by creating bot accounts and letting them loose on the platform to automatically follow hashtags or keywords. Unaware users sometimes also follow spam accounts back, giving them much desired credibility. After a while, the spam account unfollow large groups of users at one go and the process is repeated. Limiting this number to 400 could help limit the activity of such accounts to some extent but this number could have been even lower since it’s more than the number of accounts an average person is likely to follow in 24 hours.

It took me ~7 years to follow 400 people lmao
— Steven | ZeRoyalViking (@ZeRoyalViking) April 8, 2019
Additionally, following and unfollowing users at a rapid pace is against Twitter rules and counts as spamming. The new limitation comes after the company reportedly suspended more than 70 million accounts on in May and June last year. The website’s systems are said to have identified and removed over 9.9 million potentially "spammy" or automated accounts per week during the purge. In June last year, the platform presented new policies on hateful conduct and violent extremism, and unveiled a plan to implement new technology and bring in staff to curb spam and abuse.

Related Reads:

Twitter suspends over 70 million fake accounts in May and June: Report

Twitter iOS app redesigned to de-emphasise followers and following count

After India, UAE parents now seeking a ban on PUBG

By now, we're sure everyone has heard of PUBG and its virality. Given its popularity, PUBG Mobile, especially, has had a tough time convincing parents, authorities and academicians that it is indeed not an epidemic taking over the lives of people and there is truth to the matter. Anything in excess is bad and sadly, PUBG's popularity has it walking a thin line when it comes to promotions on one side and responsible gaming on the other. Now, Khaleej Times has reported that parents in the UAE are canvasing for a ban on the popular Battle Royale game. UAE would be the second nation after India to consider a ban on PUBG. Parents in the UAE are looking to get the game banned because according to them, it is a "bad influence on youth". The game has been accused of having "violent content" and an "addictive nature".

A parent in Dubai, Gulnaz Arif Moula, told Khaleej Times: "PUBG should surely be banned as it has a negative effect on the children's mind. It makes them very aggressive. Kids have taken this game so seriously that nothing else seems to matter to them - not even studying. They care only about winning in this game." Another parent, Mueena Farooq Rumane, told Khaleej Times, "I strongly feel PUBG should be banned”.

In India, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights is reportedly seeking an ‘action report’ on PUBG Mobile ban from the IT Ministry.

PUBG Mobile was banned in Ahmedabad on March 14, but the ban on the game has since been lifted. During the ban, a number of people were imprisoned for playing the game. You can read more about the arrests here.

On the plus side, PUBG has helped a lot of young people make a living by streaming the game online. PUBG players in India have made a career out of playing the game. You can read more about PUBG streaming here. ESL is holding its first competitive gaming event in India where players will battle it out in DOTA 2 to reign supreme. You can read more about the upcoming ESL event here.

There are pros and cons to any activity including gaming. If regulated properly and done under guided supervision, gaming can actually be helpful. The developers of the game have also taken steps to regulate playability of the game. The developers have put a digital lock on the game for users that are under the age of 13. This digital lock restricts children below 13 from playing the game and can only be accessed by parents or guardians.

Just like there are age restrictions for movies, there are also age restrictions for games.
