OnePlus latest open betas bring quick replies support for OnePlus 55T, OnePlus 66T

OnePlus has released the open betas for four of its older phones bringing some display-related updates as well as quick reply support. The OnePlus 5, the OnePlus 5T, the OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T got the open betas. As expected, the company has asked the testers to submit the bug reports on OnePlus Bug Reporting forum and has also warned them of potential risks of flashing the unstable beta builds.

OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T

The OnePlus 5 (Open Beta update 31) and OnePlus 5T (Open Beta update 29) changelog mentions that the “display overheating device warning” issue has been fixed and there is a new UI for system update. It also says that the quick reply feature is now supported in more instant messaging (IM) apps in landscape mode. OnePlus also assures that these IM apps don’t get paused when using the quick reply feature in the landscape mode. Further, the search experience has been optimised by adding search field and grouping search results in different categories. There is also an improved UI of Social page as well as Log recording in Bug Report section.

OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T

The open betas for the OnePlus 6 (Open Beta update 17) and OnePlus 6T (Open Beta update 9) bring the same features and optimisations as the betas of the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T brought to these phones. However, there is an India-only feature that the OnePlus 6/6T update brings to the phones. Under File Manager, the company has added an Intelligent cleanup feature that is anticipated to clean clutter from phones.

In less than two weeks, OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 7 Series of phones. Reports have suggested that the Chinese company will launch three phones: the OnePlus 7, the OnePlus 7 Pro and OnePlus 7 5G. All the phones will have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor under the hood, and are tipped to be offered in multiple variants. The OnePlus 7 5G will have the X50 modem for 5G capabilities and is said to have same specs as the pro variant. The OnePlus 7 Pro has a triple camera system with 3x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom.

Google Pixel 3a retail box leaked, tips Purple-ish colour variant

In less than a week’s time, Google will launch the watered-down versions of Pixel 3 devices at its annual developers conference, Google I/O. Called the Pixel 3a and the Pixel 3a XL, the phones have already been leaked several times and in the latest development, images of the retail box of the smaller Pixel 3a have been spotted in a video. The box shows that the phone sports a 5.6-inch display and purple-ish colour - somewhat confirming the rumoured information making rounds on the internet. The Purple colour could also have something to do with Google's partnership with Avengers: Endgame.

The images of the Pixel 3a retail box were leaked by one Brandon Lee on his YouTube channel 'This is Tech Today'. In the video (see below), Lee says that although the images show a 64GB storage variant, it will also be available in a 128GB storage option. When it comes to the display size, it has been constantly reported that the Pixel 3a will come with a 5.6-inch display with a resolution of 2220×1080 pixels. The retail box, however, only confirms the panel size. There is no information on the supplier of the display panel. In comparison, the Pixel 3 had a 5.5-inch pOLED display with a FHD+ resolution (2160 x 1080p).

Now coming to the colour of the phone, last week tipster Evan Blass shared an image of the alleged Pixel 3a in a ‘Thanos Purple’ colour. Thanks to the latest leak, we might know what this shade will be called. The retail box mentions “Purple-ish” colour variant and the image on the box shows a bright yellow power button, similar to what was seen in the image that Blass shared on Twitter.

Google has been naming the Pixel colour variants in a quite unconventional way. For example, the Pixel 2 was available in “Kinda Blue” colour - a very light shade of Blue colour. The Pixel is being offered in a very light shade of Pink and is called “Not Pink.” The “Purple-ish” colour is assumed to be a subtle light purple colour.

When it comes to the pricing, Lee says that the Pixel 3a will be priced at $399 (approx Rs 28,000) and the 3a XL will go for $479 (approx Rs 33,500) in the US. Previously, a Reddit user claimed that the Google Pixel 3a will be priced CAD $649 (approx Rs 34,000) while the bigger Pixel 3a XL will cost CAD $799 (approx Rs 41,500). WinFuture had also leaked the German prices saying that the Pixel 3a could be priced at Euro 450 (Rs 34,977 approx).

Rumours have suggested that the phones will be offered in both Clearly White and Just Black colours as well. Additionally, both the phones are speculated to have Active Edge feature that lets users squeeze the phone to summon the Google Assistant, the Titan M security chip, eSIM support, and 64GB of local storage. When it comes to the camera, both the phones are expected to have the same 12MP camera on the back and an 8MP wide-angle front shooter as it was found in the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

Under the hood, the smaller variant is claimed to have Snapdragon 670 SoC with 4GB of RAM, and it may draw power from a 3,000mAh battery. The larger variant may ship with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 mobile platform with 4GB of RAM. Both the handsets are slated to run on Android 9 Pie, sport USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Redmi X is not the name of the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship, Redmi General Manager clarifies

There are posters doing the rounds on Chinese social networking site about the upcoming Snapdragon 855-powered Redmi flagship. The posters claim the phone will be named Redmi X and will debut on May 14 in China. However, Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing was quick debunk the posters stating the flagship device will not be called Redmi X. As a result, it seems like the posters doing the rounds on Weibo  fake.

Weibing said in a Weibo post, “not called Redmi X, there will be a better name.” Redmi has been teasing the Snapdragon 855-powered phone for quite some time now, building up to the launch. The company is yet to release a launch date or a formal name for the flagship.

So far, we know there is a Redmi flagship under works which will be powered by the Qualcomm flagship chipset. It’s likely that the phone will sport an edge-to-edge display replete with an in-display fingerprint sensor and a pop-up selfie camera. However, there have also been reports of another Redmi phone that’s powered by the newly announced Snapdragon 730. This could very well be a lighter version of the Snapdragon 855-powered flagship.

The Redmi phone with the Snapdragon 730 SoC might feature a 48MP+8MP+13MP camera stack on the back and come with a 4,000mAh battery. It’s also expected to come with an AMOLED display and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

If at all we are taking guesses at what the Redmi flagship could be called, there’s some precedence in history. If at all Redmi launches a Snapdragon 855-powered flagship, it will likely be taken as the successor to the Redmi Pro that was announced back in 2016. The phone came powered by MediaTek’s Helio X25, the flagship chipset of that time along with dual rear cameras. Could it be that the upcoming flagship be called the Redmi Pro 2?

Speaking of budget flagships, Realme is also rumoured to be launching a device possibly called the Realme X. Leaked specs of the phone reveals an in-display fingerprint sensor, VOOC 3.0 fast charging, triple rear cameras and Snapdragon 730. The phone is expected to come in 6GB RAM + 64GB storage, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB variants.
