Xiaomi Mi 9T launch set for June 12, teased to sport pop-up selfie shooter

Xiaomi announced that it would launch a new Mi-Series smartphone called Mi 9T on June 12. The Chinese tech giant, however, didn't mention the place of the event, so we don’t know whether the launch is in India, China or Europe. There is a possibility that this is a soft launch. There is no official information on the features and specifications of the phone, but we can still speculate them on the basis of the image that the company posted on Twitter.

According to the image, the phone will not have any type of notch, which means that it will come with a pop-up selfie camera mechanism. That theory is further strengthened by a hashtag that Xiaomi has used in the tweet (see below). In the image, we can also see a triple camera setup and an LED flash. There is no visible fingerprint sensor, which suggests that the Mi 9T will have an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Previously, a Dubai-based YouTuber had claimed that Redmi K20 is re-branded as Mi 9T in markets outside China. The Youtuber also posted three images of the phone showing the front part where the screen doesn’t have a notch. The Mi 9T will reportedly come in a Carbon Black colour with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage.

The image shared by the Dubai-based blogger shows a screen guard of the device that has the specs written down on it. It says that the phone has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, in-display fingerprint sensor, 20MP pop-up front camera, and a 4,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support. The chipset is likely going to be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 730.

Google Maps now shows live train running status, bus travel times and mixed-mode commute options in India

Google has been actively updating and adding new features for Google Maps in India. It recently added a feature that enables users to report a ‘slowdown’ on Indian roads. The company has now announced three new features for Google Maps users in India, which are aimed at commuters and people who use public transportation as their main mode of transportation. Google Maps will now show live train status for Indian Railways trains, along with bus travel times from live traffic in 10 of the largest Indian cities. Users will also see mixed-mode commuting suggestions, which combines auto-rickshaw and public transport.

The real-time train information for long-distance trains will enable users to see at what time a train is arriving. The feature will also display live train status for Indian Railways trains and has been developed in partnership with the Where is My Train app, which was acquired by Google last year. One can use this option by booting up Google Maps, and searching and selecting their starting station and destination station. Users will see a list of trains that are available between the selected route and here, real-time status of trains will be shown, along with additional information like delays.

Google Maps is also being updated with an option to display bus travel times based on current live traffic conditions. The feature is apparently made possible by leveraging Google’s live traffic data and public bus schedules to “calculate delays and provide accurate travel times.” As mentioned above, this new option will be available for 10 Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Lucknow, Chennai, Mysore, Coimbatore, and Surat. Google states in its blog post, “This is the first product of its kind -- launching first in India -- enabling you to know how long your bus trip will take when factoring in live traffic conditions,” One can look up live bus travel times by tapping on the transit tab after entering their starting location and destination.

The public transport option on Google Maps for Android will now notify users of directions in mixed mode for journeys that combine auto-rickshaw rides and public transport. It will show options like commute times, which station to take an auto-rickshaw to/from, estimated rickshaw meter fare and departure times for your transit connection. This new feature is initially rolling out for commuters in Delhi and Bangalore and is slated to be made available soon in more cities.

PUBG Mobile: Quick look at upcoming Team Death Match mode in 0130 update

It looks like there might be room in the mobile FPS space for something other than just Battle Royale. PUBG Mobile is set to be updated to version 0.13.0, which will include a Team Death Match (TDM) mode, besides the Godzilla: King of the Monsters event. While the update is yet to roll out for the stable version of the game, it is available on the Beta version. Here’s everything you need to know about the new Team Death Match mode in PUBG Mobile.

Basic rules

The rules of the game are pretty similar to other team deathmatch modes found in games like Unreal Tournament and Quake. The mode features two teams of four players each and the objective is to score 40 points. Killing the opposing team lets you earn points and the first team to get 40 points wins.

You get unlimited lives

There is no ‘perma-death’ in Team Death Match. If you are killed, you respawn back at your team’s spawn point. This makes it different from War mode in which you can parachute back into the action at any point on the map. However, in order to ensure that a team’s spawn point isn’t overrun with spawn campers, players get a few seconds of invincibility when you respawn.

Health regenerates

Unlike other modes, health in Team Death Match regenerates after a while. So if you just managed to survive your last encounter, you can hide for a bit and you should be good to go for another scuffle. A much better option as compared to manually healing yourself, which leaves you open to counter attacks.

There is only one map

There is currently only one map available for the Team Death Match called ‘TDM: Warehouse’. The map features a building in the middle with lots of cover in the form of concrete blocks, shipping containers and more

Inventory

You start off each match with a weapon and have the option to pick up another one in your team’s spawn point. You get a bunch of weapon attachments like red dot scope, 4x scopes and more. Weapons are usually balanced for both teams, but there is an M249 light machine gun in the middle of the map, which can give any player a significant advantage.

Medals/Achievements

Like most deathmatch games, players will be recognised for completing certain things such as getting kill streaks, headshots and more. However, unlike games such as Call of Duty, you won’t be able to use streaks to call upon certain killstreak rewards like a missile strike or a UAV Drone.

The pace is much faster than Battle Royale or War mode

Thanks to the fact that you spawn with weapons and there are unlimited lives, the action is a lot more intense. This is especially true when compared to Battle Royale mode which emphasises on survival. However, the action isn’t as frantic as War mode where people can land anywhere around you.

The end

When a match ends, players can check out their stats such as their kills, kill/death ratio and more. The game also awards one player as the Most Valuable Player (MVP). Players also get XP to level up.

As mentioned earlier, Team Death Match will be introduced with the 0.13.0 update of PUBG Mobile, which will also brings the Godzilla: King of the Monsters event. The developers have already started teasing the upcoming event on the stable version of the game in the form of little easter eggs scattered throughout the game. You can check out those easter eggs here.

Of course, PUBG Mobile won’t be the only mobile game that will offer a team deathmatch mode. Call of Duty: Mobile is currently in Beta. It offers the same game mode in Multiplayer mode, along with additional features like loadouts, perks, and killstreak rewards. However, this also means that the Team Death Match mode in PUBG Mobile starts players off on an equal footing, unlike Call of Duty: Mobile where high level players get access to a much better arsenal right at the get go.

Nokia 3, Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro receive Android Pie update, May 2019 security patch

Samsung has been upgrading its older phones with Android Pie-based OneUI, and now it has rolled out the software update to yet another old device, the Samsung Galaxy J7 Pro. The handset is probably the oldest Samsung phone to get the latest Android software. The update has been rolled out for Galaxy J7 Pro phones in Russia, and it comes with software version J730FMXXU5CSEE and the May security patch, a media report said.

Although there aren’t any details on how big the update is over the air or its changelog, it is expected that the phones will get all the changes that Google brought with Android Pie. Moreover, Samsung’s new OneUI interface with features like system-wide dark mode, gesture-based navigation and adaptive battery are also likely to be introduced in the update.

Meanwhile, HMD Global’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has tweeted that Nokia 3 is now getting the Android Pie update. The update carries version number V5.120 and brings in features like new system navigation, adaptive battery, and adaptive brightness, along with the May 2019 security patch. The update is being rolled out over the air and will reach the phones in the coming weeks. Nokia 3 (2017) smartphones have already got the Android 8.1 Oreo update in December.

Last month, Google introduced the May security update to its Pixel series of devices and other Android phones. The Android bulletin said that the latest patch resolved a total of 10 issues across Framework, Media Framework and System components. The vulnerabilities range from high to critical, with the most severe relating to the media framework and a remote attacker possibly executing arbitrary code through a crafted file.

According to Google, there were “no reports of active customer exploitation or abuse of these newly reported issues.” However, the update fixes 21 issues with Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items. These are the issues that were identified in Samsung’s own software, a previous report said.
