EA shed light on the upcoming Star Wars game and Bethesda dropped the release date for Doom 2019. Last night, it was Square Enix’s turn. The company not only showcased gameplay of some highly anticipated games but also gave out release dates as well. Here is a look at some of the key announcements from the E3 2019 Square Enix briefing.

Marvel’s Avengers

Rumour mills were abuzz about the upcoming Avengers game and we not only have a trailer for the game but a release date as well. This narrative driven game will take place over the course of a couple of years and will release on May 15, 2019. The game has legendary voice actors like Troy Baker and Nolan North lending their voices to Bruce Banner and Tony Stark respectively.

Final Fantasy VII remake

The Final Fantasy VII remake has made fans wait long enough. The game has been in development for quite some time and every time fans got anxious about the game, the developers dropped a trailer to whet our appetite. The game now, finally, has a release date of March 3, 2020. The trailer shows off gameplay, combat, special abilities and more.

Outriders

New IPs are a risk for developers and publishers alike, but if it succeeds, then the game can become a legend. Speaking of legends, the new game Outriders comes from People Can Fly — you might know them as the guys behind Bulletstorm — who showed off their next first-person shooter, which is a sci-fi title where players must find out the truth about a mysterious signal.

Final Fantasy VIII remastered

The remastered version Final Fantasy VIII will bring with it enhanced visuals. It will release in 2019 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows PC.

iOS 13 will show a pop-up Map of your location data tracked by apps

At WWDC this year, Apple put the focus on Privacy and announced a number of iOS-specific features to restrict the way apps collect user information through iPhones. With iOS 13, Apple announced that users will be able to set up background location tracking alerts to check which apps are using location data and when. A way Apple would display these alerts when iOS 13 releases widely is to plot app-tracked location data of a user on a map. As spotted by 9To5Mac, Apple will alert users of apps tracking their location with pop-up notifications that appear when an app is tracking your location in the background. The publication has access to the developer beta of iOS 13, and has posted screenshots of how this activity will take place.

As you can see in the image above, pop-up location tracking notifications on iOS 13 will also display the reason why an app uses location data. In this case, the Tesla app and the Apple Store are seen tracking a user’s location, the reasons for which are also mentioned in the notification. This will make developers more accountable for needing location data and apps will have to give users a convincing reason as to why they need location permissions. With iOS 13, users will also have an option to share their location data with an app “just once” so that it cannot be accessed by the app repeatedly. Apps will also be barred from accessing Wi-Fi and/or Bluetooth without user permission to fetch location.

According to Apple, the periodic pop-up alerts for location tracked by apps will give users an option to either give background location tracking access to an app, or revoke it completely, or modify it to “Just Once”/ “only while using” the app.

iOS 13 is currently in developer beta and will launch for public review in July.

Its M-series of handsets availed some benefits of the company's changed philosophy where it is adding new features first to mid-range handsets. Samsung Galaxy M40 spotted on Android Enterprise website ahead of tomorrows India launch

Samsung is all set to launch its new Galaxy M40 smartphone in India tomorrow. The handset has been leaked a couple of times previously and while we have a pretty good idea of what it might offer. A sighting of the phone on the Android Enterprise website reveals some additional information about it. The listing reportedly features an image of the smartphone and the image again shows off the device’s punch-hole camera display design. In addition, there are also some specs listed against the device like a 6.3-inch screen, 6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. The handset runs Android 9 Pie.

The new report, however, suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy M40 smartphone might feature a dedicated Bixby button on its left edge. If this turns out to be true, the Galaxy M40 would be the first phone outside the Galaxy Note and Galaxy S series to feature a Bixby button. This information based upon the image of the Galaxy M40 smartphone, which is said to be listed on the Android Enterprise website. However, the phone was previously revealed by Samsung via a ‘Notify Me’ page and we didn’t find any button on the device’s left edge upon closer inspection. So, we suggest you take this information with a pinch of salt.

The Samsung Galaxy M40 is confirmed to sport an Infinity-O display. The handset is expected to come with a 6.3-inch Full HD+ screen that sports a 2340×1080p resolution and the same screen size is listed on the Android Enterprise website. The handset was touted to come equipped with a 5,000mAh battery but a previous report suggests it will get a smaller 3,500mAh power cell. The smartphone will feature a triple camera setup that will consist of a 32 MP main sensor. There could also be a 5MP depth sensor and an 8MP ultra-wide sensor. On the front is a 16MP shooter and the phone is expected to be launched running Android 9 Pie. A company executive has suggested that the Samsung Galaxy M40 will be priced below Rs 20,000, which means it will go up against the likes of the Redmi Note 7 Pro, Realme 3 Pro and others that are categorised in the same price range.

Asus new VivoBook series India launch slated for June 11

At a time when Asus is in the news for its upcoming launch of the Asus 6Z flagship smartphone in India, the laptop arm of the Taiwanese company has decided to launch the new Vivobook series in the country. Asus has sent an invite to the media for an event taking place on June 11 in New Delhi, and it will be launching what it claims the “World's smallest colourful ultrabook.” Concurrently, the company is teasing the Vivobook X412 on Flipkart and made the microsite live on the platform. We are not sure whether the company will launch the same laptop or add a few more to complement this one.

The Vivobook 14 (X412) was launched at CES this year with a four-sided NanoEdge display with 5.7mm bezels and an 87-percent screen-to-body ratio. Asus claims that because of its thin bezels the Vivobook 14 (X412) is 6.8 percent “smaller than normal 14-inch laptop.” It is powered by an 8th Generation Intel Core i5 processor, and is equipped with 8GB DDR4 RAM. The laptop ships with a 512GB PCIe SSD and an NVIDIA GeForce MX230 discrete graphics card. Connectivity options include USB Type-C port, USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-A port and USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, and a microSD card reader.

Available in transparent silver, slate grey and peacock blue colours, the laptop has a 2-degree ErgoLift hinge. This lifts the laptop for better typing as well as the air flow. It is equipped with a fingerprint sensor and Windows Hello authentication support. Asus claims that the laptop weighs 1.5kg, and that it has a “new NumberPad.” “In normal use, NumberPad is a large glass-covered Windows Precision Touchpad with multi-gesture support. A tap of the NumberPad icon on the touchpad turns it into an LED-illuminated keypad with a familiar layout for easy data entry,” Asus explained in a press note.
