OxygenOS 904 for OnePlus 33T brings June 2019 security patches

While OnePlus has left no stone unturned in the promotion of its latest OnePlus 7 series, it hasn’t forgotten about its older flagships. It is 2019, and OnePlus is still pushing security updates to the 3-year-old flagships, the OnePlus 3/3T. The Chinese smartphone manufacturer has begun rolling out a new firmware update that updates the security patch on both smartphones to June 2019. It is good to see that OnePlus is still committed to providing timely updates to the older models in spite of the recent success.

This weekend, OnePlus posted on the community forum regarding the roll out of OxygenOS 9.0.4 for the OnePlus 3/3T. However, the changelog isn’t too lengthy. The OnePlus 3/3T also received a stable update to OxygenOS 9 (Android Pie) a couple of months back. Moreover, the update included security patches from April 2019. Along with the performance improvements following the OxygenOS 9 update, the two smartphones are now receiving Google security patches from June 2019 along with “general bug fixes and improvements”.

According to OnePlus’ Product Manager, the OTA update will initially be available only to a limited number of users and have a broader roll-out in the next couple of days.If you haven’t received it yet, do not worry, you will eventually receive it. And, for those who have updated their OnePlus 3/3T to the latest security patch, you can give feedback on the OnePlus community so that OnePlus can work on fixing the issues (if any) before a wider roll-out.

Also, using VPN to download this build might not help as the roll-out is not based on regions and is randomly pushed out to a very limited number of users. You can follow this link if you face any trouble or have any queries about the latest build, i.e. OxygenOS 9.0.4.

Samsungs 45W charger spotted in the wild, likely to come with Galaxy Note 10 Series

There are several reports that mention that Samsung is expected to bundle a 45W charger with the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 Series of phones. In the latest development, the charger was spotted on display at the recently concluded MWC Shanghai. A blogger shared an image of the charger on his personal Weibo account. In the image, we can see a glass box enclosing a motherboard with a number of processors. The glass box reads “45W PD solution collaborated with Power Integrations,” confirming that the South Korean giant has been developing a powerful charging solution as it was rumoured.

As mentioned, the charger could be bundled with the Galaxy Note 10 series of phones. According to a report, Samsung could launch four devices under the series: the Note10 and the Note 10 Pro (or Galaxy Note 10+), and 5G variants of both. Samsung has sent out press invites confirming that it would unveil its second flagship devices at an ‘Unpacked’ event at 4PM ET on August 7 (at 1:30AM IST on August 8) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

The striking difference between these two devices is said to be the display size. It is speculated that the Galaxy Note 10 will sport a 6.4-inch Dynamic AMOLED display, the ‘Plus’ variant could ship with a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED panel. On the battery front, it is reported that the device will pack a 4170mAh battery. Under the hood, the phones are likely to be equipped with the indigenously developed Exynos 9875 chipset (or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset for some markets) coupled with up to 12GB RAM and up to 1TB of storage.

Reports suggest that the South Korean tech company will incorporate a triple aperture camera setup with f/1.5, f/1.8, and f/2.4 apertures. The primary lens will be able to switch between the three apertures to give users control over the depth of field, and the amount of light entering the lens. The lens is said to be accompanied by a telephoto, and an ultra-wide lens. Additionally, the Note 10+ is expected to add a fourth Time of Flight sensor.

Pixel phones now receiving July security update that improves OK Google and music detection

As always, Google’s Pixel line-up of smartphones are the first handsets to receive the latest updates. The company is now rolling out the July security patch for its Pixel handsets and the update brings a host of new improvements to the devices. The Pixel lineup should now be able to better detect the "OK Google" wake word and music that’s playing in the background. A couple of bootloader issues have also been fixed. The bootloader problem causes some devices to get stuck after reboot and in EDL mode with a blank screen. In addition, support for Unicode Japanese language has also been improved, along with the performance of the Titan M module that is present on Pixel 3 and Pixel 3a series.

The new patch is now being rolled out as an Over-The-Air (OTA) update and should hit all Pixel devices in some time. One can check if it is available for their handset by heading over to system settings and checking for the update. However, those who can’t wait to receive it on their handset can download the factory images and full OTA zip files as well and flash it on their own. However, there’s a chance that doing so might wipe the device clean or even brick it. So, you are advised to exercise caution before flashing any software updates.

Speaking of Pixel handsets, the company has officially revealed the Pixel 4 smartphone months ahead of the launch. The surprise reveal would’ve surely tripped up some leaksters but it did give us a good look at the upcoming device’s rear panel. From what we could figure out, Google is ditching the two-tone texture that we’ve seen on current and past Pixel handsets. Additionally, the company is incorporating two cameras this time. You can read more about what could be in the Pixel 4, going by the rear panel’s design, here.

Samsung Galaxy A90 to sport Super AMOLED display but not Galaxy A80s sliding swivel cameras: Leaks

Leaks about the Samsung Galaxy A90 are pouring out from all quarters of the internet. In one such leak, information regarding the phone’s display have been revealed. Shared by famous tipster OnLeaks on Twitter, the latest information reveals that the Galaxy A90 will not have the pop-up/sliding and swivel camera mechanism that we have already seen in the Galaxy A80. In a follow-up tweet, the tipstrer also claimed that, out of the two rumoured variants, one of them will feature a FHD+ super AMOLED Infinity-U panel, which basically means a display with an U-shaped waterdrop notch.

And in another addition, one of both likely called #GalaxyA90 (SM-A908) comes with a FHD+ sAMOLED Infinity-U display...

— Steve H.McFly (@OnLeaks) 29 June 2019

In his previous tweets, the tipster mentioned that Samsung would launch two devices, which would bear model numbers SM-A905 and SM-A908. He also claimed that these would be the first A-Series phones to come equipped with Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 855 chipset. If true, the phones would compete with affordable flagship devices like the OnePlus 7, Asus 6z, Oppo Reno 10X Zoom and the upcoming Redmi K20 Pro.

According to OnLeaks, the SM-A905 will be a 4G version of the Galaxy A90 and feature a 6.7-inch screen. The phone will also sport an in-display fingerprint sensor, and on the back, it is claimed to sport a triple rear camera setup. The module is said to have a 48MP sensor, a 12MP camera and a 5MP sensor. The setup will reportedly be equipped with an exclusive feature called “Tilt OIS”. However, there are no details of what this tech does.

The SM-A908, on the other hand, is said to be a 5G handset. This means that the Snapdragon 855 processor will have Qualcomm’s 5G chip. The phone is said to feature that same display (with an in-display fingerprint scanner), but have a slightly different camera configuration. It will reportedly have a 48MP sensor along with and 8MP one (instead of SM-A905’s 12MP sensor) and 5MP camera. Further, he also specifically mentioned that the phone with model number SM-A908 would feature a FHD+ sAMOLED Infinity-U display.
