Sony abruptly swaps PES 2019 for Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition in PlayStation Plus games this month

Sony just made a surprising announcement by changing the line-up of games it first announced for PlayStation Plus subscribers this July. Pro Evolution Soccer 2019 (PES 2019) and Horizon Chase Turbo were the original games intended to hit the console this month but at the last moment, PES 2019 was replaced by Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition. Chase Turbo is not being replaced. Sony has not detailed why it decided to swap PES 2019 for Detroit: Become Human all of a sudden but rumours suggest that it is due to PlayStation Plus subscribers being unhappy with the game. 

Whatever may be the case, the Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition bundle and Horizon Chase Turbo are now available for download on PlayStation Plus service. The company announced the change via a tweet, and on its blog post, said, “We are making a swap to the PS Plus games lineup for July. This month, we are adding Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, which also includes Heavy Rain, to the July games lineup instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience.” As stated, the Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition bundle also includes Heavy Rain, which means there are a total of three games that will be available from July 2 to August 5.

Detroit: Become Human is an adventure game developed by Quantic Dream and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. The title is set in the year 2038 in the city of, you guessed it, Detroit and things get interesting when humanoid Androids start developing feelings. As for Horizon Chase Turbo, it is a nostalgia-evoking racing game inspired by some of the greatesst racing hits from the 80’s and 90's like Lotus Turbo Challenge, Out Run, Top Gear (SNES), Rush, among others.

Chrome will now fill card details for payments even if sync is disabled

Google has made it easier for its users to make payments in Chrome. It is now rolling out an update for shopping experience with which users will be able to use payment methods previously saved to their Google Account to fill in checkout forms. This will only happen if users are signed into Chrome. They can even use this feature without having to turn on Chrome sync. Additionally, this is not limited to the web, which means that users will be able to use the payment info they have saved in their Google Account across all their devices in Chrome and wherever Google Pay is accepted.

How will this work? When you are signed in and Chrome offers you the option of using a card from your Google Account, it will ask you to confirm your saved card’s CVC number. If you choose to save a new card to your account, you will receive a confirmation email from Google Pay with additional information. You can manage and delete the cards in your account at any time by going to your Google Account > Payments & subscriptions > Payment methods.

“Using this new feature doesn’t turn on Chrome sync. And of course, if you prefer to save your payment methods only locally on your device, you can still do that: Add your card in Chrome Settings  > Payment methods > Add. When you sign into any Google website, you’re also signed into Chrome with the same account. You can turn off ‘Allow Chrome sign-in’ altogether in settings,” Sabine Borsay, Chrome Product Manager, said in a blog post.

Earlier this year, Google brought some new protections and controls in Chrome. It said that it had improved cookie controls so that users could clear or block third-party cookies. This feature was implemented such that first-party cookies aren’t affected, which means users won’t be logged out of banking sites if they have opted for such first-party trackers.

Vivo iQOO Neo with Snapdragon 845 chipset, 4500mAh battery launched in China

After launching the iQOO gaming phone earlier this year, Vivo has announced its younger sibling called iQOO Neo in China. While the original iQOO smartphone had the latest flagship processor, the Neo version relies on last year’s top-of-the-line mobile platform. The charging tech is also slower than the iQOO handset. However, it gets all the necessary acceleration features that are needed in a gaming phone.

The Vivo iQOO Neo sports a 6.38-inch OLED display with Full HD+ resolution, and the company has incorporated a fingerprint sensor underneath the panel. Unlike the variant launched in March, the iQOO Neo is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, which is assisted by up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. To boost the gaming performance, Vivo says that it has added a Multi-Turbo feature, which includes AI Turbo, Center Turbo, Net Turbo, Cooling Turbo, and among others.

It follows the trend of other gaming phones incorporating a cooling tech. The iQOO Neo has a dedicated cooling system, which includes two multi-layer graphite slates enclosing a vapour chamber and a piece of aluminum. According to the company, the phone can reach lower temperatures by three degrees Celsius than other Snapdragon 845-powered devices. Further, Vivo has included touch acceleration for the digitiser and claimed that users won’t experience any lag when using in-game joysticks.

When it comes to camera, the phone sports a rear triple camera setup, which includes a 12MP main shooter, an 8 MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor. On the front is 12MP sensor. The phone runs Funtouch OS 9, which is based on Android Pie. A 4500 mAh battery powers the device, and it features a 22.5W Vivo FlashCharge technology, which is claimed to charge 50 percent of the device's battery in 30 minutes.

The Vivo iQOO Neo is offered in Black and Purple colour options. The 6GB RAM and 64GB variant will retail from CNY 1,798 (approx Rs 18,000) and 8GB RAM and 128GB storage variant can be purchased for CNY 2,298 (approx Rs 23,000). Those interested can pre-order the device on company’s online store. The phone will also be available in a flash sale scheduled for July 8 in China.

Shakti SDK will enable app development for Indias first processor

Researchers at IIT Madras unveiled the first indigenous microprocessor called Shakti back in November 2018. It is the first chip to be designed, fabricated, and manufactured in India. It is also an open-source processor. The software development kit (SDK) for India’s first CPU is also available for the public on GitLab. Shakti is based on the RISC-V instruction set and there are six classes of processors, each aimed at serving a different market. The processor went into development under the RISE group at IIT Madras in 2014. With the new Shakti SDK, developers can start working on applications even before the chip is made commercially available. 

The six classes of Shakti processors that we previously mentioned include three base processor classes of E-Class, C-Class, and I-Class. There are also three multi-core chips that are categorised under M-Class, S-Class, and H-Class. There are also T-Class and F-Class of experimental processors that include modified variants of base-class chips. Diving a bit deeper, E-class processors are low-power chips that built around a 3-stage in-order core. They are aimed at enabling less powerful computations in areas like IoT sensors, motor-controls and robotic platforms. 

Coming to C-Class, these chips can handle mid-range application workloads and feature 5-stage in-order design. With support to run Linux and Sel4, the 64-bit chips are targeted at compute/control applications in the 0.5 - 1.5GHz range. The I-Class processors are touted to be more powerful chips that support performance oriented features like out-of-order execution, multi-threading, and more. These chips can be used in mobile, storage and networking segments with the speed of operating range between 1.5 and 2.5GHz. 

The M-Class multi-core processors offer up to eight cores and are a combination of C- and I-Class cores. The processor could be used in desktop-type applications. The S-Class of Shakti processors is meant to handle workstation and enterprise server compute loads. An enhanced version of the I-Class, these chips feature quad-issue and multi-threading support. The top end H-Class SoC is aimed at highly parallel enterprise, High-Performance Computing and analytic workloads.

OnePlus 66T OTA update rolling out with screen recorder, feedback tool and June 2019 security patch

A new update is rolling out to the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T with the latest security patch and some new features. The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T came out last year and the latest update brings OxygenOS version to 9.0.15 for the OnePlus 6 and 9.0.7 for the OnePlus 6T. The roll-out will be incremental and should be coming to your device by this week.   The new update, along with the latest security patch, also brings a screen recorder to capture on-screen video. The feature debuted in the OnePlus 7 Pro and the company was quick to port it to its older devices. The screen recorder was already unofficially ported to older OnePlus devices by third-party developers, but now OnePlus is officially offering it as part of the update.   The last open beta update tested the feature out in older phones, and considering that the roll-out is already underway, OnePlus didn’t find any bugs in the feature.   Along with the screen recorder, the update also brings the June 2019 Android security patch along with support for VoLTE in Netherlands. Screen rotation has also been improved to make it smoother and reliable. Furthermore, OnePlus has included a feedback tool, which can be used to submit bugs one comes across while using the devices. You can also submit feature requests using the tool and if the feature is under high demand, OnePlus might just bring it to the devices.   To get the update, head over to Settings app and tap on “Check for Updates”. Since this is an incremental update, you may not get it on the first day, but if you wait for a day or two, the update should be there for download.

Many Americans dont know what phone they are using, about one in three think they have 5G: Survey

We have some surprising results to share from a survey conducted by the refurbished products site Decluttr. The survey suggests that more than half the users of the Apple iPhone XR did not know which iPhone model they were using. Moreover, about 47 percent of the iPhone users on AT&T thought they were using 5G. To clarify, Apple hasn’t even launched a 5G device yet.

Moreover, only half of the respondents were able to recognise their phone model by image. The most recognisable handset with a 71-percent identify-rate was the Samsung Galaxy S9+ whereas iPhone XR and iPhone 7 were the least recognisable handsets with an identify-rate of 44 percent each. Additionally, just over a half of the iPhone X owners were aware of the fact that their phone is water resistant. Plus, only 14 percent of them knew about the NFC capabilities of their device.

Samsung users weren’t any better either. About 40 percent of the users of the Samsung Galaxy S7, S8, and S9 knew that their mobile phone features wireless charging. But they did have a better identify-rate than the Apple users.

Coming to 5G, the most surprising part of the survey result is that one in three Americans thought that they owned a 5G-capable phone, despite the limited availability of such devices. Most of these respondents were those who used a Samsung device on T-Mobile. Hilariously, about 62 percent of users (who stated that they owned a 5G-capable device) claimed to have noticed improvements in their mobile service while using the current network - even though they have likely never used 5G service.

Also, it is worth noting that the survey polled 2,000 U.S.-based smartphone owners who are of legal age (18+). The rest of the survey focuses on the misconceptions smartphone users have about buying refurbished devices.You can see all the results here.

Instagram Chat sticker launched to let users create groups directly from Stories

Adding a new branch to its existing ways to connect with friends in Direct Messages, Instagram has now introduced ‘Chat’ sticker that will let users create conversation groups directly from Stories. It is available among other Instagram stickers like polls, mentions, question boxes, locations, among others. Users who have placed the sticker in their Story will also be able to select which friends (or followers) they would like to add to the conversation.

This sticker is helpful in situations that invovle inviting people for a cause or making plans. For example, if you are making plans to go on a trip to the mountains, you can place the sticker in your story inviting people to join you for a conversation and the trip. When it comes to businesses or publications, they can use it to talk about a certain product (see below) in a closed group. Conversations can also happen on Facebook posts, however, the user who has posted the information originally won't have control over the number of participants.

If your friends have posted the ‘Chat’ stickers in their Stories, you can tap ‘Join Chat’ sticker to request access to the chat. The original posters can then choose whom they want to include in that specific chat, which will take place in their direct messages inbox. It also gives the original poster the power to end that chat at anytime. The sticker is rolling out now and available on Android and iOS in India as well. 

Last month, Instagram introduced the lyrics feature to the already announced Music sticker. The option enables users to select lyrics for a song of their choice, which is placed in their Story. If the lyrics are available, they will be shown with the Story. The feature is available only in the regions that have the Music sticker, which means that it is not available in India.
