Apple to reveal a new MacBook Pro soon, reveals FCC filings

Apple to reveal a new MacBook Pro soon, reveals FCC filings. The next Apple MacBook Pro model could be launched soon. According to 9To5Mac, a new MacBook Pro model has been filed in an application to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC). The document says that the new Apple laptop model will feature a 13-inch display. However, Apple had recently updated the MacBook Pro line-up during its WWDC event last month.

The latest 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook models pack Intel’s eighth and ninth generation Core processors. The tech giant also announced a redesigned keyboard for the MacBook Pro. 9To5Mac claims, “The model number mentioned in the FCC documentation, A2159, aligns with a model number spotted in the Eurasian Economic Commission (ECC) database last month. The ECC database has proven to be a reliable indicator of the upcoming Apple device releases in the past.”

The FCC document may be uncertain but it does make it clear that this is a 13-inch MacBook, ruling out the possibility of a refreshed version of the 12-inch MacBook. The new 2019 laptops use the A1990 model number, which suggests that this is an additional new machine. It could be a spec-bumped 13-inch MacBook Pro, like the one announced at WWDC with the option for 32GB RAM.

Apple’s application to the FFC says, “We, Apple Inc., are applying for an FCC grant for a Single Certification of the device: MacBook Pro.” It further includes, “The MacBook Pro, Model A2159 is a laptop computer, with built-in IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac radio and Bluetooth radio.”

However, this doesn’t seem like a major MacBook redesign. Also, there are rumours that we may see a 16-inch MacBook model, but this model is highly unlikely to be that one.

Huawei Mate 30Mate 30 Pro protective film image allegedly shows up on Twitter

The protective film of Huawei Mate 30/MAte 30 Pro has allegedly shown up on the internet. Twitter tipster Ice universe has tweeted a picture of what is claimed to be a protective film, which will be used on the Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro. The image originally showed up on Weibo. Although the upcoming Mate devices are not expected to be launched anytime before October, the Mate line-up usually features the company’s most advanced tech for the year. If the leak is to believe, it gives an idea about what the bezels on the upcoming Mate phones could look like. However, the top of the image is blurred, which could be hiding a notch or the source of the leak.

In addition to this, the rear glass panel of the phone was also leaked recently. It showed that the camera module on the devices could be round, featuring three camera lenses. While Huawei is moving to a circular setup, (if the leaks are to be believed) Apple and Google could be housing their cameras in a square.

The expected specification of the Huawei Mate 30 Pro includes a 6.71 inch curved AMOLED display with the 90Hz refresh rate. The OnePlus 7 Pro was earlier launched with a 90Hz refresh rate on the display. The upcoming Mate brothers could be powered by the Kirin 985 chipset and 4000mAh battery or more. On the optics front, the round camera module is expected to sport a primary 40MP camera, a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. Additionally, Phonearena claims that the phones could feature a Time of Flight(ToF) sensor, which provides more accurate depth information for portraits.

We will keep you updated with the future leaks. Stay tuned with Digit for more.

OnePlus One catches fire spontaneously, company responds

Through a tweet sent out by India Today senior journalist Chaiti Narula on Wednesday, the news of a OnePlus One smartphone that spontaneously caught fire earlier that day has been doing the rounds on the internet. Rahul Himalian, the owner of the OnePlus device in question, claimed in his message to OnePlus Care that the device was in “switched off” and “unplugged mode”. OnePlus has since responded to the unfortunate OnePlus user in a statement to Digit.

“We take such incidents seriously. Our team has already reached out to the user and is investigating this further,” says OnePlus India in its official statement. In his original message to OnePlus Care, Himalian wrote that he “was woken up suddenly by suffocating and nauseating fumes” that came from his “fuming and flaming” OnePlus One smartphone in the early hours of Wednesday. He added that his air conditioner was turned on at the time and that the room temperature was 19 degrees Celsius.

Himalian added in his message to OnePlus Care that his OnePlus One was over five years old when the incident happened. When he saw fumes fill the room up, he splashed water on the burning device to put the fire out. Himalian's message, which was sent to OnePlus Care, expresses the user's disappointment and chagrin over the incident. “I urge the Customer Support team to reach out to me to redress the issue which has not only caused mental agony to me but could have been fatal also,” reads the last line of his message.

OnePlus One is the very first model designed and manufactured by the popular Chinese smartphone manufacturer, whose current models include the recently launched OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. The OnePlus One, which has no past history of a battery defect in particular, features a non-removable 3100mAh lithium-ion polymer battery. The OnePlus One was originally unveiled in 2014. It's powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 chipset with 3GB of RAM. Internal storage ranges from 16GB to 64GB.

Google Pixel 4 could sport 16-megapixel telephoto lens: Report

In yet another investigation-led speculation article about the upcoming Google Pixel 4, XDADevelopers writes that the default Google Camera app from the to-be-released Android Q Beta 5 reveals some interesting clues about the upcoming Pixel device's camera. An update in the source code of Google Camera 6.3 suggests that the Pixel 4's square camera setup on the back panel could include a telephoto lens, whose resolution could be 16 megapixels.

The team at XDADevelopers writes that it found some important changes in the “Sabre” section of the source code, which is an internal name for Super Res Zoom. A line that did not exist in the previous betas suddenly appears now, reading “SABRE_UNZOOMED_TELEPHOTO”. The team also found a list of sensor IDs in the source code, something that did not exist in the previous versions of the default camera app either. The list includes: “front IR” sensor, a “front regular” sensor, a “front wide” sensor, a “rear regular” sensor, and a “rear telephoto” sensor.

If what we gather from the source code hints is right, the upcoming Pixel device may come with not just a telephoto lens on the back but also an IR sensor on the front, which we can surmise is for face recognition. 9to5Google's report goes deeper into the source code of the camera app. A line in the source code that reads, “Telephoto image has dimensions ( ), but should have dimensions 4656×3496, 4656×3492 or 2328×1748,” suggests that the telephoto lens' resolution could in fact be 16 megapixels.

In June, when leaks and rumours about the upcoming Pixel device were threatening to pour out of every crevice on the internet—which is the case with most unreleased Pixel devices anyway—Google boldly tweeted an image of the Pixel 4's rear camera setup. The image revealed a square camera module with multiple sensors inside. “Wait 'til you see what it can do,” added Google in its tweet. Since then, we have seen quite a number of leaks and speculations about the upcoming device but this development here is quite significant because this will be the first time we see a Pixel device with a telephoto camera unit. Let's wait and see what happens.

Samsung announces Galaxy Tab A 80 with 2GB RAM, 5100mAh battery

Samsung, which only recently launched the Galaxy Tab S5e and Galaxy Tab A 10.1 in India, quietly announced the Galaxy Tab A 8.0. As the name suggests, the new tablet comes with an 8-inch WXGA display in a 16:10 aspect ratio. The Galaxy Tab A 8.0 also features a 5100mAh battery, dual speakers, 2GB RAM, and up to 32GB of internal storage. Samsung has yet to announce when the new tablet model will go on sale in India and for how much.

According to a press release shared by the popular Korean electronics manufacturer, the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 measures 8 millimetres in thickness and weighs 345g. In comparison, its larger sibling, the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 weighs 469g but measures the same in terms of thickness. The display on the Galaxy A 8.0 is a 16:10 8-inch TFT unit with a maximum resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. Like its recently launched siblings, the Galaxy Tab A 8.0 features dual speakers for stereophonic sound.

The chipset doing duty on the new Galaxy Tab A 8.0 has not yet been specified. Samsung only mentions that it has a Quad-core processor clocking at 2.0GHz. If our guess is right, the tablet features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 429 chipset with a Cortex-A53 CPU. The GPU on it should be the Adreno 504. The Nokia 3.2 that we reviewed recently is powered by the same Snapdragon 429 chipset. That should give you an idea about the performance of the device.

Samsung is expected to sell the Galaxy A Tab 8.0 is Wi-Fi and LTE variants. The RAM onboard is expected to be 2GB. Internal storage is expected to be 32GB with the option of expanding storage to 512GB using a microSD card. The rear camera is a single 8-megapixel sensor and the front camera is a 2-megapixel unit. The tablet also gets Wi-Fi 2.4GHz/5GHz, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 4.2. Samsung's proprietary version of Android 9 Pie is expected to be running on the device out of the box.
