Huawei could be allowed to do with business with US very shortly

Huawei has been banned from doing business with U.S-based companies thanks to a de facto blacklisting of Huawei by the U.S. Commerce Department. However, the company might soon get to do business once again after a Bloomberg report claimed Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said licenses will be issued ‘very shortly’.

There have been 260 requests for licenses to do business with Huawei, or more than what the Commerce Department would’ve expected, according to the report. And while Ross cautioned against thinking all the requests will be rubber stamped, few expections can be made.

While the report doesn’t mention which companies applied for the licenses, Google is one company that has been adversely affected by the trade ban. Huawei is not allowed use Google apps in its smartphones as long as the ban is in effect. It will also lose the ability to push out updates to its existing smartphones once the temporary license expires. We can assume that a permanent license will let the two companies resume business.

Telecom companies in the US might not be given a license, though. The major reason stated by the US for banning Huawei is on account of the company snooping on US citizens on behalf of the Chinese government using cellular equipment. It seems the companies that will eventually get the license will have little to do with cellular or telecom infrastructure.

Microsoft Edge browser gets new logo, inbuilt surfing game easter egg

Everyone knows Microsoft's secret dream is to make its default browser cool and widely accepted among the world's netizens since the days of Internet Explorer. The company's latest update to the Chromium-based Edge browser might just go a long way in the right direction. According to a recent report by Windows Latest, the Canary (beta) build for Microsoft Edge comes with a new logo and an inbuilt surfing game as easter egg.

The browser's new logo follows Microsoft's Fluent Design System, a design language proposed by the Redmond-based company in 2017. This means the famous lowercase ‘e’ in the browser's logo, which has been around since the first versions of Internet Explorer, now resembles the refreshed icon pack used in the Office suite of productivity applications (Word, Excel, OneNote, etc.) The new logo looks almost nothing like the original one.

edge://surf/

The latest Canary build of Microsoft's browser includes an easter egg called Surf. It's a game that requires you to complete objectives to win. But to have a go on it, you'll first have to enable it. Start by heading to “edge://flags#edge-collections” to enable the Collections feature. After accepting the browser relaunch prompt, tap the overflow menu and select Collections. In the sidebar that pops up, create your own new collection by adding four websites of your choice. Then, right-click each of them and tap Edit to rename them as: ‘S’, ‘U’, ‘R’, and ‘F’. Finally, move F up to R and drag it back down to its original position. This should trigger the easter egg named “edge://surf/”.

You won't be able to unlock the easter egg and see the new logo if you're not on the latest version of the Canary build of Edge. Do note that Canary is the fastest update channel available for the Chromium-based Edge browser, so it could be buggy for everyday use. If you, like us, are unable to see the new logo and game, it's probably because the latest Canary update hasn't reached you yet. In this case, you'll see a page telling you you're too early in the game. From the overflow menu, visit Help and Feedback > About Microsoft Edge to keep it updated.

Motorola One Hyper certified by NTBC, launch confirmed

Motorola’s first pop-up selfie camera phone, Motorola One Hyper could launch soon. The smartphone has been reportedly certified by NTBC in Thailand. There is no official confirmation that Motorola will be launching another One-series smartphone, but the device has leaked in prior reports. While manufacturers have adopted the pop-up camera design and brought it to their mid-range devices, Motorola is yet to introduce it in its phones.

According to previous leaks, Motorola is all set to showcase their take on the full-display smartphone. It is expected to be a budget device. The Motorola One Hyper may feature a 6.4-inch 1080p panel with an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. It is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 675 chipset. The device could come equipped with 4GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

In the optics department, Motorola One Hyper is tipped to feature a 64MP rear camera. As of now, we have seen 64MP camera smartphones from Xiaomi, Realme, and Samsung. Coming to the highlight of the smartphone, the pop-up module is likely to house a 32MP selfie camera module. Hence, no notch on the display. The pictures also show a glowing ring around the Motorola logo on the rear panel. It may compensate for the loss of the notification light from the front.

The Motorola One Hyper is tipped to launch with Android 10 on board. While it may belong to the Motorola One-series of smartphones, it may not be a part of Android One program, just like the recently launched Motorola One Macro.

Further, Motorola One Hyper is expected to pack a 3600mAh battery. There is no word on the launch date and pricing of the One Hyper yet. However, Motorola is holding an event on November 13 in Los Angeles where it is expected to unveil the foldable Razr phone.

Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite revealed to sport 4370mAh battery

In October, we learnt that Samsung had plans to release a ‘Lite’ version of two of its popular flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10. We also learnt that the Galaxy S10 Lite (codenamed SM-G770F) would come in white, black, and blue colours. A recent certification made by Anatel (or the National Telecommunications Agency) in Brazil now suggests that the upcoming Galaxy S10 Lite will sport a fairly large 4370mAh battery.

According to a post published by Gurugram-based comparisons site IndiaShopps, the report from Anatel indicates that the Galaxy S10 Lite will have a minimum battery capacity of 4370mAh, which means the unit's typical capacity should be close to 4500mAh. This is much more than the Galaxy S10's 3400mAh unit and the Galaxy S10e's 3100mAh unit. What's more, recent rumours suggest the Galaxy S10 Lite's large battery will be complemented by a 45W fast charging kit.

From all that we've learnt so far, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is a rebranded and repackaged Galaxy A91. It could be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space that's expandable up to 512GB using a microSD card. We expect the phone to run Android 9 Pie right out of the box with Samsung's proprietary One UI on top. Like the Galaxy S10, the ‘Lite’ model could be available in Prism Black, Prism Blue, and Prism White colours.

Unlike its current cousins, the Samsung Galaxy S10 Lite is expected to come with a much larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. On the back panel, the handset could have as many as three cameras, including a 48MP primary sensor with an f/2.0 aperture, a 12MP ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture, and a 5MP depth sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. The single selfie camera is expected to be a 32MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture. We expect to learn more about this phone in the coming weeks.

TikTok developer reveals its first smartphone with Snapdragon 855 Plus

ByteDance, the developer of the famous short-video app called TikTok, has quietly revealed its first smartphone. Called Jianguo Pro 3 (or ‘Nut Pro 3’), the flagship-grade smartphone is currently on sale in the Chinese market for a starting price of 2,899 yuan (Rs 29,051 approx) under the Smartisan brand name. Powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset, the Jianguo Pro 3 allows the user to access Duoyin, the Chinese version of TikTok, right from the lock screen.

According to Smartisan's product page, the Jianguo Pro 3 is available in three variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. The Jianguo Pro 3 sports a 6.39-inch Full HD+ AMOLED screen with an in-display fingerprint scanner. Its back panel is home to four cameras, including a 48MP Sony IMX586 primary sensor with an aperture of f/1.75, 13MP ultra-wide sensor, 8MP telephoto lens, and a 5MP super-macro lens. The selfie camera is a single 20MP unit with an aperture of f/2.0.

Powered by a 4000mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ 18W fast-charging, the Jianguo Pro 3 runs Smartisan OS 3.0 that's based on Android 9 Pie. The phone is sold in China in black, white, and ‘Matsutake’ (mushroom green) colours. According to a recent report by Abacus News, the native camera app in the phone contains special effects and filters found in TikTok. “These can be applied to videos of any length, unlike TikTok videos, which can only last up to 60 seconds.”

According to a statement received by Reuters back in July from a ByteDance spokesperson, the Jianguo Pro 3 is a “a continuation of earlier Smartisan plans, aiming to satisfy the needs of the old Smartisan user base.” Founded in 2012, Smartisan is a “struggling” Chinese smartphone manufacturer that transferred some of its patents to ByteDance to keep the brand name going. At this point, we don't know whether the Jianguo Pro 3 will come to the Indian market.
