Motorola Razr foldable phone to be announced today Could launch in India as well

Motorola is gearing to launch its vertically folding phone, Motorola Razr 2019. The premium-looking flip phone from the past is all set to make a comeback. The event will be held in Los Angeles today, but Motorola hasn't confirmed the timing of its event. The Razr foldable phone has leaked several times in the recent past. The alleged renders showcase a flip-like design that includes a secondary display on the front panel.

Motorola is highly likely to announce its foldable phone because the company sent out invites for today’s event that included a GIF with the title “An original unlike any other.” It suggested the foldable design of the phone. Further, it also mentioned that “You’re going to flip.”

Moreover, the Motorola India Twitter account has changed its cover image to what looks like the unfolded Motorola Razr 2019. Hence, it is speculated that the foldable phone could make its way to India as well. However, all the official Motorola accounts on Twitter including the UK, Brazil, Canada and more have set the same cover image.

Some of the recent renders of the Motorola Razr folding phone suggest that the new Razr could come with a small screen at the front that may display notification alerts. It will come alongside a camera sensor that could be used to capture selfies. Once unfolded,  the Motorola Razr 2019 would open vertically unfolding from the middle.

Motorola Razr foldable phone is said to feature a 6.2-inch display with 876x2142 pixels resolution, while the cover display could have a resolution of 600x800 pixels. The phone is said to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset, paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage. The foldable phone could carry a price tag of 1,500 Euros that converts to Rs 1,18,500 approximately.

Facebook app for iOS reportedly accessed camera in the background without users knowledge

The Facebook app on iOS is reportedly accessing the camera in the background. Some users discovered this was happening and tweeted a video showing the bug in action. As per @neo_qa’s tweet, the app can be seen accessing the camera UI for Facebook Stories in the background when orientation is switched from portrait to landscape. While switching back to portrait, the app directly opens up the Stories camera UI. A web designer, Joshua Maddux, posted a video that shows the camera UI running in the background, which is barely visible while viewing an image on the Facebook app.

Maddux also says that he was able to reproduce the same issue in five other iPhones that he tested. All of these devices were running on iOS 13.2.2 but the problem wasn’t reproduced in devices running iOS 12. Facebook told The Verge ášhat a fix for the first issue is being submitted to Apple and the second bug inadvertently crept into the Facebook app with an update that was pushed on November 8.  “we have seen no evidence of photos or videos being uploaded due to this bug,” Facebook said in a statement.

Today, while watching a video on @facebook, I rotated to landscape and could see the Facebook/Instagram Story UI for a split second. When rotating back to portrait, the Story camera/UI opened entirely. A little worrying... pic.twitter.com/7lVHHGedGf

With all the problems that Facebook is facing around user data and privacy, a bug like this, even if unintended, could erode a user’s trust. There’s already a myth floating around that Facebook is listening into user’s conversations and that’s how some creepily accurate ads were shown on your feed. However, the company has denied such accusations and the company’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg called it a “conspiracy theory.” Ever since the Cambridge-Analytica data scandal, Facebook says it has been trying to be a more privacy-centric company. Zuckerberg has time and again reiterated the company’s commitment to user data and privacy, but it remains to be seen how its agenda fares.

Found a @facebook #security & #privacy issue. When the app is open it actively uses the camera. I found a bug in the app that lets you see the camera open behind your feed. Note that I had the camera pointed at the carpet. pic.twitter.com/B8b9oE1nbl

As the end of the year draws closer, it’s time for aggregators, stores and publishers to start naming their ‘Best of 2019’ lists and products. Last year, Google introduced a new ‘Fan Favourite’ category and asked fans to vote for their favourite apps and games. It looks like the guys over at Google really liked the concept and have brought it back for 2019 in the from of the Google Play Users’ Choice Awards. This time around, people have the option of not only voting for their favourite apps and games, but also their favourite movies and books.

Voting is currently underway and will be open till November 25. The winners, along with the Best of 2019 picks from Google Play editors will be announced on December 3. Users can vote from the Google Play app, or from this page here.

In movies, users can vote for some of the year’s biggest blockbusters such as Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home alongside Bollywood hits like Andhadhun. Interestingly, users also have the option to vote for Thugs of Hindostan. (Don’t look at us, we didn’t nominate it…)

As far as books are concerned, there seems to be an even spread of fiction, non-fiction and self-help books. So the choice can be made based on your preference, or if you like a certain writer.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 core configuration and clock speeds leaked online

Days after Qualcomm confirmed it will be hosting the Snapdragon Tech Summit on December 3 where the Snapdragon 865 is likely to launch, the upcoming flagship chipset surfaced online, thanks to a new leak. With the official launch still about three weeks away, we now have more information to break about the flagship chipset that will be powering high-end smartphones next year.

Chinese leakster @DigitalChatStation has leaked the core configuration of the Snapdragon 865 on Weibo. According to the leak, the SD865 will be an octa-core chipset just like the previous Snapdragon 855. Same as before, the Snapdragon 865 will sport a 1+3+4 core setup which includes one prime core for high performance, three mid cores for the slightly less intensive tasks and four efficiency cores for the rest of the tasks.

Credit: Gizmochina

The leak further revealed the prime core will be based on ARM Cortex-A77 with peak frequency of 2.84GHz, while the 3 mid-cores will run at 2.42 GHz, also modeled on a custom design based on the Cortex-A77. Lastly, the four efficiency cores will be clocked at 1.8GHz and will be based on Cortex-A55 cores. The leak also revealed the GPU on the SD865 will be the Adreno 650 clocked at 587MHz.

Interestingly, the leak core configuration and the clock speeds are the same as the Snapdragon 855. Despite that, there is scope for a boost in performance thanks to the custom core designs based on the latest ARM cores. The leakster claims Qualcomm is looking at a 20 percent boost in CPU performance and 17 to 20 percent boost in GPU rendering. There is no information on the power efficiency gains, but we expect it to be around the same as the Snapdragon 855, based on what ARM revealed about the new CPU cores not being very different from its predecessor, from a microarchitecture point of view. Previously, the Snapdragon 865 had appeared on Geekbench revealing a 17 percent boost in benchmark numbers.

The Snapdragon 865 could debut with the Samsung Galaxy S11 series in the US early next year, ideally a few days before the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. It will be manufactured on TSMC’s 7nm process and one variant of the chip could come with an integrated 5G modem, which is likely the Snapdragon X55 5G modem.

We will be at the Snapdragon Summit in Hawaii for more in-depth coverage from December 3 where Qualcomm is also expected to announce chips for laptops, mid-range phones, wearables and smart speakers.

More Vivo S5 renders appear ahead of November 14 launch

Vivo S5 is all set to go on launch on November 14, but the renders keep on coming. Vivo has already revealed what the smartphone would look like in a promo poster. However, multiple renders of the smartphone have already been published on Weibo. The phone is seen sporting a quad rear camera setup in a diamond-shaped module and a hole-punch display upfront with the cut-out placed on the top-right edge.

The new renders come directly from the company. Vivo took to Weibo to release a bunch of Vivo S5 renders. The phone is seen in two gradient finishes, namely, Blue and White. Apart from the camera module and punch-hole display, the 3.5mm audio jack is seen sitting on the top edge, while the USB Type-C port and speaker grille remain at the bottom edge of the Vivo S5.

Vivo S5 specifications (rumoured)

According to TENAA, Vivo S5 is said to feature a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with full HD resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels and an aspect ratio of 20:9. It could be powered by an octa-core processor that clocks at 2.3GHz, which could be the Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 chipset.

Vivo S5 could come equipped with 8GB RAM and 128GB/256GB of internal storage. It may run Android 9 Pie. The handset is expected to pack a 4010mAh battery with support for 22.5W rapid charging technology.

Google Stadia will have 12 playable games available on launch day and chances are, youve probably played most of them

Let’s face it, every time a gaming console launches, the launch line-up isn’t stellar. The same is the case with Stadia. The game streaming service was said to launch with more than 30 games but on launch day, there will be only 12 games playable. The launch lineup includes Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey, Destiny 2: The Collection, Gylt, Just Dance 2020, Kine, Mortal Kombat 11, Red Dead Redemption 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Samurai Shodown, Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Thumper and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition.

There is some good news as well. Google says that there will be more games available before the year ends. This will include Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle, Borderlands 3, Darksiders: Genesis, Dragonball Xenoverse 2, Farming Simulator 19, Final Fantasy XV, Football Manager 2020, Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Grid, Metro Exodus, NBA 2K20, Rage 2, Trials Rising and the not-so-impressive Wolfenstein: Youngblood.

Chances are you’ve already played most of these games as they have been available on the PC, PS4 and Xbox One for sometime now. What will be interesting to see is the price of these games. No one would pay $60 (Rs 4000 approx.) for these games so it is possible that there will be available at a lower price. Darksiders: Genesis will launch on all the platforms on December 5.

In the history of video games, only a few consoles have had a stellar launch line-up. It is safe to say that with these games, Stadia will cater to the first movers and test the waters to fix any known issues before releasing a game like Doom Eternal on the service, which clearly needs a lag-free experience.

Those interested must know that India isn’t on the launch line-up of countries. We have an in-depth look at everything about Stadia and you can check it out here. You can also read about Stadia compatible devices here.
