Samsung Galaxy Z Flip promo poster leaked, key specs surface ahead of expected official launch

Samsung is hosting its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 11 where it is expected to unveil some new smartphones. While the Samsung Galaxy S20 series of devices are most likely to make their debut, ongoing rumours suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip could also be announced at the event. The second foldable phone by Samsung is garnering notable attention and hence, we are seeing reports and rumours about it almost every other day. A couple of fresh reports about the Galaxy Z flip have now surfaced online, which tip at a possible promo poster, and some of its key specifications.

A promo poster image of the alleged Samsung Galaxy Z Flip was recently posted on the Chinese social media website Weibo. While the Z Flip is rumoured to feature a clamshell design where the fold folds out like a flip phone, the promo poster showcases a phone that bends like a ‘Z’. While the poster suggests dual fold on the phone where one portion of the screen is always visible, we aren’t really sure about it. We also suggest you take this info with a pinch of salt as we will have to wait for the official announcement to be completely sure.

Coming to the second report, the tipster Ishaan Agarwal has tweeted some specs of the upcoming device. As per the tweet, the Galaxy Z Fold could come equipped with a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED Display and instead of the 108MP camera that is rumoured to be present on the device, the tipster claims it will sport a 12MP main camera. On the front, there could be a 10MP sensor for selfies and it is said to be backed by a 3300mAh battery or a 3500mAh battery. The phone will most likely run on One UI 2.1 and could be announced in black and purple colour models.

Amazon India switches to electric delivery rickshaws, eyes 1 lakh EVs by 2025

In what appears to be one of the many first significant steps the popular e-commerce company is taking as part of the Climate Pledge initiative to reduce global carbon footprint, Amazon India has announced a new fleet of electric delivery vehicles. Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos was seen proudly presenting the company’s new delivery fleet on Twitter yesterday, which currently consists of electric rickshaws designed and manufactured in India. Amazon India intends to add as many as 1 lakh three-wheel and four-wheel electric vehicles (EVs) to its delivery fleet by 2025.

With the aim of reducing carbon emissions on the road, Amazon India will deploy its new fleet of electric rickshaws for order deliveries this year in over 20 cities across the country, including Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Pune, Coimbatore, and Nagpur. In its blog post, Amazon India notes that it successfully carried out the same EV-powered delivery effort as a pilot project across several Indian cities last year. Amazon India is currently working with many Indian EV manufacturers to increase its fleet count to 1 lakh units.

“The expansion of our Electric Vehicle fleet to 10,000 vehicles by 2025 is an integral milestone in our journey to become an energy efficient leader in the industry. We will continue to invest in the electrification of our delivery fleet, thereby reducing our dependence on non-renewable resources,” commented Akhil Saxena, Vice President of Customer Fulfillment at Amazon APAC & Emerging Markets. According to Amazon India,  the National Automotive Board’s FAME 2 (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles 2) scheme has helped accelerate this process.

Amazon’s commitment to use EVs for deliveries in India is part of the Climate Pledge initiative from last year. In September 2019, Amazon committed to switch to 100-per cent renewable energy in all its operations by 2030 and be net zero carbon by 2040. It said it would reach the 2050 target set by the Paris Agreement a whole decade early. In addition, the company agreed to invest $100 million in reforestation projects around the globe. Flipkart, Amazon India’s most direct competitor in the e-commerce space, also announced a sustainable last-mile delivery solution last year.

These Huawei smartphones will be updated to Android 10-based EMUI 10

Huawei introduced EMUI 10 last year in August at the Huawei Developer Conference. The latest version of EMUI is based on Android 10. Now, the company has revealed the complete list of Huawei smartphones that will be updated to Android 10-based EMUI 10. EMUI 10 brings a new UI, dark mode and much more. It also brings an upgraded magazine lock-screen and support for a colourful always-on display.

Back at the time of introduction of EMUI 10, Huawei announced a list of 22 devices (including Honor) that were supposed to get the Android 10-based update. Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 450 promising new features and performance boost for budget phones

Qualcomm announced three new chipsets — Snapdragon 460, 662 and 720G made for entry-level and mid-range smartphones. Both Xiaomi and Realme pledged to make use of the new platforms in their upcoming smartphones.

The new chipsets comes across as incrementary updates to the existing lineup with the Snapdragon 720G now being the mid-range gaming SoC of choice for OEMs, the Snapdragon 662 targeted for the camera-centric mid-rangers and the Snapdragon 460 coming as a big performance boost for the budget smartphones.

The chipsets also seem to be specially designed for Indian usage. They are the first mobile chipsets to support India's navIC regional navigation system, which should improve locking down on your location much easier in the country.

We’ll take you through the features of each of the new chipsets -

Snapdragon 720G

The Snapdragon 720G is positioned to offer high quality smartphone gaming at a budget, and will be one to look out for this year. The chip is based on an 8nm manufacturing process and rocks new Kryo 465 cores, 2 high performance Cortex A76 and Cortex cores clocked at 2.3GHz and six Cortex A55 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. Qualcomm claimed a 60 percent jump over the previous generation while the Adreno 618 GPU promises a whopping 75% improvement in graphics rendering with HDR video playback support. Interestingly, the Snapdragon 720G also supports charging via USB-PD standard on top of Quick Charge 4+.

The chipset also supports upto 192MP photo capture which means the new breed of 108MP camera sensors are supported, thanks to the new Spectra 350L ISP. For connectivity, the Snapdragon 720G gets the Snapdragon X15 LTE chipset, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and wireless stereo audio support.

Snapdragon 662

The Snapdragon 662 sits lower than the Snapdragon 720G in terms of raw performance as well as imaging. There are four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2GHz and Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It gets the Adreno 610 GPU. Interestingly, Qualcomm didn’t throw a number at us for performance increase in this chipset. More than that, the chipset rocks the Spectra 340T ISP that supports up to three cameras and single 48MP photo capture. It also only gets Quick Charge 3.0.

Snapdragon 460

The Snapdragon 460 brings performance cores to the 4-series chipsets for the first time, and as a result, Qualcomm claims a big 70% bump in performance with the Kryo 240 CPU and Adreno 610 GPU (with a 60% boost in graphics rendering speed). The chipset also brings a Hexagon DSP for the first time in the 4-series promising smoother AI computing.

However, this one won’t support the 48MP sensors. The Snapdragon 460 touts a Spectra 340 ISP capable of capturing 25MP images and dual 16MP photo capture. The chip supports Quick Charge 3.0 and is Wi-Fi 6 ready.

Developing now. Story will be updated later with more details

New PS5 controller patent suggests built-in mic, console unveil expected in February 2020

Another day, another PS5 story. The new information comes from a controller patent filed by Sony. The patent says that the controller could have a built-in microphone. Please note that just because the patent is filed does not mean that it will make an appearance on the controller. But it is possible that we will see a microphone in the controller. The use cases are significant - headset free chat, issuing commands, launching games, requesting guides when stuck in a game (isn’t that something Google Stadia promised?), so on and so forth. From the leaks of the controller, it is clear that the PS5 controller will be slightly chunkier than the PS4 controller and could feature a slightly larger trackpad. It isn't clear whether the PS5 controller will bring with it buttons at the back by default, but with the new $30 back button accessory for the PS4 controller, the internet is abuzz that the PS5 controller could come with back buttons built-in. Currently, back buttons are available only via third party pro controllers.

In other PlayStation information, David Jaffe, the famed game developer for his work on God of War and Twisted Metal tweeted, “PS5 reveal is less than 4 weeks away. Sony knows hardcore gamers are hanging on every scrap of info and know that just cause MSFT dominates the conversation at the moment, that's an easy thing to change when they are ready to reveal (assuming the reveal is good).” He tweeted the above on January 16 hinting that the February reveal could be true. To refresh your memory, Sony held an event back in February 2013 to reveal details of the PS4 and finally unveiled the console and price at E3 the same year. Considering Sony has confirmed that it is skipping E3 this year, it is possible that they have a different reveal strategy up their sleeve for the PS5.

Sony has given gamers limited information about the upcoming console. All confirmed details come from exclusive Wired articles and the PS5 logo which was revealed at CES 2020.

Microsoft, on the other hand, has revealed the look of the Xbox Series X at the Game Awards 2019. You can check out the details about the Xbox series X here.
