WhatsApps new Together at Home theme-stickers are live

WhatsApp has announced the rollout of its new set of stickers aimed to amplify the benefits of staying at home, healthy practices like washing hands, and also to celebrate the efforts of those who serve during the pandemic. The new sticker pack theme is called 'Together at Home', and the messaging giant has tied up with the World Health Organisation (WHO) for the initiative.

"We hope people enjoy using these stickers to check-in on loved ones, particularly those that are feeling isolated, alone, and scared. This pack offers creative ways to remind people to wash their hands, maintain distance, exercise, and importantly to celebrate medical heroes as well as the personal heroes in all of our lives," said the company in a press note.

The pack features 21 new stickers depicting the kind of activities that most of us are doing at home to stay engaged, social distancing benefits, work from home and similar themes. In addition to English, it is available in 10 other regional languages - Hindi, Arabic, French, German, Indonesian, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Turkish.

The 'Together at Home' stickers can be downloaded from the existing sticker gallery. You simply have to tap on the add '+' option to find the new set of stickers.

Several changes in WhatsApp amid the COVID-19 pandemic

It's not the first initiative from WhatsApp relating to the COVID-19 pandemic. The messaging giant recently increased the number of users on a video call to four, which is now expected to be increased to eight users.

WhatsApp also launched a WHO chatbot and COVID-19 information hub to help spread awareness about the issues among its users. In a smart move, WhatsApp has also restricted the forwarded messages to only one chat at a time to contain the spread of misinformation and fear-mongering.

Vodafone Idea reduces double data recharge offer to 9 circles

Vodafone Idea users, there is some bad news for you. Vodafone Idea’s double data offer which was earlier limited to 14 circles is now limited to 9 circles. This includes Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Mumbai, Kolkata, West Bengal, Odisha, Assam, Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir. But that's not all. The number of plans offering double data has reduced from 3 to just 2. Earlier, the Rs 249, Rs 399 and Rs 599 plans gave users 3 GB data per day (1.5GB daily data + additional 1.5GB) and a validity of 28 days, 56 days and 84 days, respectively. Now only the Rs 399 and Rs 599 plans offer the double data offer. Last week Vodafone Idea reduced the number of circles from 22 to 14 where the plan was available and now it's down to 9, as mentioned above. The Rs 249 plan now gives users 1.5GB data per day with a validity of 28 days. For the validity of 28 days and 3GB data per day, users will have to resort to the Rs 398 plan.

With the lockdown in India extended till May 3, people are consuming more content. In such cases, the data cap of 1GB or 1.5GB may not be enough and people may be looking for more data to keep themselves entertained. To ensure there is no strain on networks, OTT platforms like Netflix and Prime Videos are reducing their bit rate to ensure there is no load on the network. Even YouTube has dropped its resolution to 480p on mobile devices to help ease network congestion.

In other Vodafone Idea news, you can recharge your number via an ATM if you can't find a shop near your house to do the same during the lockdown. You can also recharge your Vodafone Idea number via SMS. You can learn the step by step process on how to do that here.

If you are working from home and looking at checking out some great prepaid plans, you can do so here.

New Apple AirPods with AirPods Pro like design without noise cancellation expected to launch soon

If information circulating the internet is to be believed, then Apple is looking to launch new AirPods with the same design as the AirPods Pro but without the noise-cancelling feature. This is, of course, to keep the price of the AirPods lower than the variant with noise cancellation. There is no official information about the new AirPods from Apple. This information comes from DigiTimes. According to the report, Apple originally planned to unveil the new AirPods in May but due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, has delayed the launch to the second half of 2020 or even 2021.

The Digitimes report reads, “Apple may have to defer the launch of its new AirPods Pro to the second half of 2020 or even 2021, according to sources at related suppliers. Apple originally planned to unveil the new AirPods Pro in May 2020, but the schedule may be pushed back, as Apple has been unable to send staff to the production lines in Asia to inspect the status of the TWS earbuds due to the coronavirus outbreak, the sources noted. But Apple so far has not yet made any adjustments to the earbuds' release schedule, the sources said.”

It's not like Apple hasn't launched new products during the period of the pandemic. We saw the launch of the new iPad Pro and the new iPad Pro stand. We have also seen the announcement of the iPhone SE. None of these announcements came via the standard Apple event. When we see the new AirPods launch and at what price, is only something we will know when Apple officially makes the announcement.

A lot of brands have pushed their launches or cancelled events outright due to the COVID-19 crisis. Microsoft has said that all its events for the coming year will be digital and Sony took to an online GDC like briefing to unveil details of the PS5 and a blog post to show off the new DualSense controller. We also saw an online event unveiling of the OnePlus 8.

In India, we have seen the launch of products like the Realme Narzo delayed due to the lockdown. Even products like the Kodak Android TVs were launched via an online-only event before the lockdown in India began.
