Tinder will add a video chat feature on the platform by June

It looks like Tinder will be adding a video chat option on the platform rather soon. Set to debut in June, Tinder hopes that this feature will help boost the app’s popularity even further. The video chat option will probably be limited to a one-on-one chat. The apps parent company Match Group confirmed the same on Tuesday, May 5. Due to the forced lockdown because of the Coronavirus, Tinder has seen a significant drop in users and is looking to bounce back in a big way. Social distancing norms have also hit the app hard. This essentially led to the idea of the video chat coming to fruition.

The addition of a video chat on Tinder could very well change the way people interact on the platform. As of now, the only way to communicate with someone on Tinder is through text messaging, but clearly that is going to change soon enough. The video chat option also gives people the option to actually see if the person they matched with is actually who they say they are. This could go a long way when it comes to safety and such.

In a statement released by Match Group, the company said, “Social distancing has required adaptations and pivots and has impacted our business because the manner in which singles engage with our products and start relationships has quickly evolved. We know that singles are adjusting their behaviours, and many are shifting to having dates virtually via phone or video. Female usage and engagement is a key driver for a dating product's success and we are constantly trying to improve these metrics.”

Tinder has also released Tinder Passport that allowed users to connect with potential matches across the world, which goes really well with the video chat feature. The app has also added t panic button and photo verification to help users feel much safer.

LG Velvet with 68-inch display, 48MP triple-rear camera launched

LG has finally launched its new smartphone, the LG Velvet, in South Korea. The new device will be available for purchase from May 15, with pre-orders accepted from May 8 to May 14. The phone is priced at KRW 899,800 Won, which is approximately Rs 55,700. It is not yet known if the company plans to launch the smartphone globally.

LG Velvet specifications

The LG Velvet sports a huge 6.8-inch Cinema FullVision display with a 20.5:9 aspect ration. It also comes with a ‘3D Arc’ design that is said to 'bend' the display on two sides, similar to what we’ve seen on Samsung’s flagship phones. The phone also sports a waterdrop design with the front camera located inside a small notch on top of the display. It is powered by a 7nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 765 SoC with support for 5G.

In terms of optics, the phone features a triple rear camera setup with a 48MP primary sensor, an 8MP sensor with an ultra-wide lens and a 5MP depth sensor. The phone also packs a 4300mAh battery. The phone also supports LG’s other technologies like ‘LG Dual Screen' and 'Stylus Pen'. However, these accessories will be sold separately.

LG started teasing the Velvet back in April. The company said that it was moving away from alphanumeric designations for their smartphones in favour of a more familiar and expressive name. According to LG, these names will “help the consumer capture the essence of the device best suited for his or her personality and ever-changing trends. The name “Velvet” is intended to evoke images of lustrous smoothness and premium softness, two key characteristics of the new phone”.

It is not yet known if or when LG will launch the Velvet in India and what will it be priced at. Currently, the company’s flagship smartphone in the country is the LG G8X ThinQ. The phone comes with a 6.4-inch OLD FullVision display with a resolution of 2340 x1080p. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC with 6GB RAM. The phone comes with the company’s Dual Screen technology, which is a folding cover that features a secondary screen. In terms of optics, the device features a 12MP+12MP dual-camera setup at the back, while at the front is a single 32MP unit.

Next OnePlus flagship could support 65W fast charging

The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro support Warp Charge 30T, letting users juice up the device from zero to about 70% battery in 30 minutes. If you thought that's fast, we say, think again. An even faster-charging technology that employs 65W fast charging is already available in the market. In fact, a number of devices including the Oppo Find X 2 Pro and the Oppo Reno Ace have already embraced 65W fast charging. Other devices like the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro support 50W fast charging as well.

Fast charging as a technology has been instrumental in getting smartphones to charge faster when plugged in. The OnePlus 8 Pro also supports fast wireless charging as well, but the OnePlus 8 does not support wireless charging.

It was the OnePlus 3 and 3T that introduced fast charging to OnePlus devices via dash charge. This supported 20W fast charging. With the OnePlus 6T, OnePlus moved to Warp charge, claiming the smartphone could charge 50% in 20 min.

The weakest link in a smartphone is the battery. However, a lot of innovation has been done to optimize the use of the battery in a smartphone. From apps not working in the background, to the power draw from the chipset and even display technology, all have contributed to optimize battery consumption. The battery capacity in smartphones too has increased, crossing the 5000mAh bark in some cases.

If you are looking to pick up the OnePlus 8, then know that the smartphone will go on sale on May 11. The OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro launched via an online event in April. The phones are priced quite aggressively in the Indian market as compared to the US.

The OnePlus 8 base variant with 6GB+128GB storage starts at Rs 41,999. The mid-variant of the OnePlus 8 with 8GB RAM+128GB storage is priced at Rs 44,999 while the top variant with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at Rs 49,999. The OnePlus 8 Pro with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage starts at Rs 54,999 while the top variant with 12GB RAM + 256GB storage starts Rs 59,999.
