Aarogya Setu app made mandatory for domestic air travel: Report

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has reportedly made it mandatory for passengers flying on domestic flights to have the Aarogya Setu app installed on their phones. According to a report by PTI, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has issued a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to airport operators on Wednesday. This comes shortly after it was announced that domestic flights in India would resume from May 25 onwards.

The SOP has also reportedly instructed airport operators to make appropriate arrangements for sanitation of a passenger’s baggage before their entry into the terminal building. It should be noted that while AAI manages over 100 airports in the country, some major airports like the ones in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad are operated by private companies.

Earlier this month, the Ministry for Railways had announced that the Aarogya Setu app was mandatory for passengers travelling via train. The app was also recently made available on the JioPhone.

The Indian government is also relaxing its stance on the app. A few days ago, the Ministry of Home Affairs released new guidelines for the fourth phase of the lockdown. Companies have been asked to ensure the installation of the app by employees on a “best effort basis”. Further, local authorities can now only “advise” people to install the app instead of forcing them to download it.

AMD Zen3 architecture to support 400-series chipset on the AM4 socket

During the keynote at CES 2017, AMD announced that they were committing to supporting the AM4 socket till 2020. However, AMD announced the Zen3 architecture and revealed that unfortunately, the AM4 socket would not be supported by the new architecture. This would mean AMD having to go back on their word from 2017, causing a lot of the user base, especially those who just purchased B450 and X470 based motherboards. Well, AMD has some good news for you, well, sort of.

AMD has announced that they will continue to support the AM4 socket, particularly the B450 and X470 chipset based motherboards with a firmware update, however, there are going to be a significant number of caveats. For starters, not all AM4 boards are going to be a part of the upgrade plan. It is only the B450 and X470 chipset-based boards. AMD issued a statement where they outlined the plan for extending the support for these boards.

The B450 and X470 boards will get Beta BIOSes updates that AMD will develop together with its OEM partners. The first cautionary comes in the form of the fact that once flashed and updated to the new Zen 3 architecture, the BIOS will no longer support any older generation CPU. Further, once the new BIOSes is flashed, it cannot be rolled back, making the change permanent. “To reduce the potential for confusion, our intent is to offer BIOS download only to verified customers of 400 Series motherboards who have purchased a new desktop processor with “Zen 3” inside. This will help us ensure that customers have a bootable processor on-hand after the BIOS flash, minimizing the risk a user could get caught in a no-boot situation” says the press release issued by the company.

AMD does conclude the statement by saying that they still recommend users buy a 500 series board in order to be able to use all the features and performance offered by the AMD silicon. This probably means that if you’re using an older board with a Zen3 architecture-based CPU, you may not be able to utilize all the features that would be on offer.

It truly is remarkable that AMD has managed to extend the life of the AM4 socket for so long. Introduced originally in 2016, the AM4 socket was also backwards compatible with processors that used an older socket like the AM3+. The socket has remained in place through the Zen+, Zen2 and now Zen 3 architecture. Intel, on the other hand, implements a new socket every two generations, leaving users with only expensive upgrade paths. Even for the same socket, Intel is notorious for forcing upgrades. The LGA 1151 socket supported Sky Lake and Kaby Lake CPUs, but for Coffee Lake, Intel decided to rearrange some of the pin contacts, including the processor detection pin. This broke the compatibility of the LGA1151 socket with Sky Lake and Kaby Lake, and the socket was designated LGA 1151 Rev 2.0. While Intel has justified moves like these by saying that this is the only way to let users enjoy all the features of newer processors, it still makes for a very expensive upgrade. AMD, on the other hand, has at least given the users the option to continue using their existing hardware, even if it means not getting to enjoy some features.

We may not get any future OnePlus McLaren edition smartphones

Yes, that's right, if information circulating the internet is to be believed, then the partnership between OnePlus and Mclaren has ended. Reddit user rudefyet put out a post on Reddit which reads, “Just noticed this. Guessing there might not be another McLaren edition coming”. He links to the Mclaren partners page where OnePlus is no longer listed. According to XDA developers, OnePlus was listed until March 29 as a partner. So if you thought there would be a Mclaren edition of the OnePlus 8 or 8 Pro, then there is bad news for you.

We have reached out to OnePlus for a comment and will update this article when we receive word from them.

OnePlus is no stranger to special edition devices. We first saw this with the OnePlus 5T which was available in a Star Wars: The Last Jedi Edition You can check out its details here. Next up, we got the OnePlus 6 Avengers Edition and you can check out the details of that device here. Both the above phones were available in limited quantities around the world making them quite desirable to fans and those that wanted a “unique” OnePlus device. Next up, we got the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition. This variant not only came with the signature Mclaren design but also brought with it advancements under the hood including 10GB RAM (not available on any other OnePlus 6T) and Warp Charge 30 you can check out the details here. The McLaren Edition made a comeback with the OnePlus 7T Pro and you can check out that device here.

However, if there was one device that embodied the DNA of the McLaren formula more than the special editions was a device that was never released to the public. It was the OnePlus Concept One. As the name suggests the device was a concept and wasn't released to the public, but we got our hands on the device and you can check out our hands-on in the video below. The unique thing about the OnePlus Concept One was the fact that it had a disappearing camera. OnePlus used electrochromic glass technology to hide the rear cameras on the handset, the same as what is seen on Mclaren 720S. It also has the same papaya orange colour found on the McLaren car and the signature stitching found on the seats of the 720S.

Huawei Freebuds 3 earbuds now available on Amazon at Rs 12,990

Huawei has announced that its Freebuds 3 TWS earbuds are now available for purchase in India. The device will be exclusively available on Amazon at Rs 12,990. Buyers can also pick up the CP61 Wireless Charger with the earbuds and can avail no-cost EMI starting at Rs 18 per day.

The Huawei Freeuds 3 earbuds are touted as being the world’s only open fit active noise cancellation earbuds and are powered by the company’s own Kirin A1. The earbuds feature a 14nm dynamic driver and also supports call noise reduction and active noise cancellation. The Kirin A1 is said to be the first wearable chip to support Bluetooth 5.1 and BLE 5.1. The company claims that this should allow for greater stability and ease of connectivity. The headphones also come with Huawei’s self-developed dual-channel synchronised technology that allows the headsets to receive the left and right audio channels directly from a smart device, while also facilitating direct communication between the two headsets and the device.

Users can control the various features of the earbuds by tapping either of them. Tapping on the left earbud toggle Active Noise Cancellation, while tapping on the right lets users skip to the next song. The Huawei Freebuds 3 earbuds are said to offer four hours of playback from a single charge and a total of 20 hours when used along with the case. The device also supports wireless charging.

Other features of the earbuds include a 5mn processing latency, which is claimed to be one of the world’s lowest audio delays. It is also said to offer a 94% Wind Noise Elimination due to aerodynamic duct design. It also sports a bass tube inside each earbud, which should offer an improved audio experience.

Intel Tiger Lake Xe iGPU benchmark show significant gains over previous generation

Earlier this year at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Intel spoke heavily about Xe, its homegrown graphics architecture. Alongside that, Intel’s keynote also included heavy mention of Tiger Lake, the architecture that would be made available “later in 2020.” Well, it seems that we may finally start seeing something substantial develop in that area after all. Notebook Check has gotten their hands on the 3DMark Fire Strike benchmark results for Tiger Lake’s Gen12 Xe iGPU, and it looks very interesting.

The benchmarks are for a Tiger Lake Intel Core i3 processor with the Xe iGPU. It is expected that the Xe iGPU would come with 48, 80 and 96 execution units, paired with the Intel Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7.  All the CPUs are expected to sport a 15W TDP, with one Core i7 SKU being a 28W TDP part. IF you don’t care for all the numbers, here’s the interesting part of this entire story; the 15W Core i3 Tiger Lake processor with 48 execution units on the GPU outperforms the Intel Core i7 with Iris Plus with 67 execution units. The Core i5 and Core i7 Tiger Lake parts score even higher, painting a very promising picture as far as onboard graphics performance is concerned.

Intel has for the longest time lagged behind AMD when it came to integrated GPU performance. With Tiger Lake, that could very well change. At CES, we got to experience gaming on a Tiger Lake-based laptop with nothing but the onboard Intel Xe iGPU. The experience was fairly smooth, even with the laptop set to mirror the output to a big LCD. While we were not given any details about the processor, its core count or the memory on the iGPU, it was still impressive to see Overwatch run in FullHD off of an integrated GPU.

While Intel may be catching up to AMD in terms of the onboard graphics, but when it comes to pure CPU performance, Team Blue has its work cut out for itself. The new Zen 2 based Renoir CPUs have been outperforming Intel’s parts with a notable margin. Either way, this year is bound to be exciting for those looking to buy a laptop, regardless of whether it’s a thin and light or a gaming laptop.
