Reliance Jio offers 2GB daily data for 5 days to some users: Report

Jio is offering some of its users an additional 2GB data per day for a period of 5 days. If you would like to check if you have received the same, then you can log into the My Plans section of the MyJio app and check. It must be noted that the 2GB data per day for 5 days is in addition to the user’s current data plan. So if you have a plan that gives you 3GB data per day, with the additional free 2GB data per day, for the period of 5 days you will get 5GB data per day before going back to the normal 3GB data per day. With 2GB data per day for 5 days, users get 10GB data overall for free. The information comes from the OnlyTech forum where people are posting screenshots of receiving the additional data. This is apparently not the first time the service has offered the free data and it did this once in April as well.

Reliance Jio has a bunch of enticing offers for its customers. The service has 4G data vouchers under its Work From Home packs. The plans are priced at Rs 151, Rs 201 and Rs 251 and bring with them data capacity of 30GB, 40GB and 50GB respectively. All of them have a validity of 30 days. You can read more about the 4G work from home plans here.

Jio also has a Rs 999 plan that gives users 3GB data per day and has a validity of 84 days. The plan also gives users Jio to Jio unlimited voice calling and Jio to Non-Jio FUP for 3000 minutes. You can read more about plans with 3GB data here.

However, one thing to note is that Reliance Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea register drops in average download speed. Jio average download speeds dropped by 30% since March 2020. You can check out the details here.

Vodafone technical glitch deducts Rs 99 from prepaid subscribers for International Roaming, Refunds to be issued

Vodafone India prepaid subscribers were subjected to a rude awakening as they discovered Rs 99 was deducted from their prepaid balance towards activating International Roaming service on their phones without their consent. Apparently, a lot of customers received this message in the early hours of June 2nd, 2020. We confirmed with several customers that their prepaid balance was indeed reduced by Rs 99 and this wasn’t just a stray SMS from Vodafone. One of the screenshots sent to us indicates the deduction and those with insufficient prepaid balance lost all privileges for making outgoing calls as the balance slipped into the negative. We reached out to Vodafone for a comment to gauge the extent of their user base that is affected by this deduction and they’ve not responded.

Vodafone-Idea Rs 99 International Roaming Deduction Refund

Vodafone prepaid Rs 99 deduction

Value Added Services like International Roaming requires the consumer to use the MyVodafone app or SMS ACT IR to 144 or speak with the customer care in order to provide consent. Moreover, one has to have sufficient balance for the service to be activated. These services are not activated without the same. Most of the consumers we spoke to experienced deductions between 2 AM to 7 AM. Also, several of them did not have enough balance on their accounts either.

Vodafone-Idea Rs 99 International Roaming Deduction Refund

Vodafone’s financial woes

With Vodafone-Idea facing bankruptcy owing to massive debts to the Government and banks, Twitter has gone into overdrive with various conspiracy theories. Some of which are even insinuating that this was a conscious effort to bolster their finances. Vodafone-Idea has a total debt of INR 1.2 lakh crores of which INR 16,399 crores is owed to various banks in the form of outstanding term loans. Yes Bank and SBI form the largest lenders in this group with INR 5,000 crores loaned by Yes Bank and INR 4,750 crores loaned by State Bank of India.

Refunds for the affected

As of 1.40 PM, Vodafone India Twitter handle has taken cognisance of the issue and is promising to refund Rs 99 to those who have been affected by the glitch.

Hi! We apologize the inconvenience caused. Due to a technical error, Rs 99/- has been erroneously charged on your prepaid number. We are crediting the amount to your account. We solicit your co-operation. Stay Home and Stay Safe - Sara

WhatsApp for JioPhone will soon get Status Messages feature: Report

JioPhone users may soon be able to post status messages on WhatsApp, according to a report. The feature is tipped to work the same as how status messages work on WhatsApp’s Android and iOS apps. And it’s not just for the JioPhone. The new status message will also work with other KaiOS-powered devices like the Nokia 8110 4G.

Status messages work similarly to Instagram stories where you can post an image, video or text for 24 hours before it disappears. Among the many features that are missing from the JioPhone app, this could be the first of many that the KaiOS team is working on. WhatsApp for JioPhone was announced back in 2018, and it launched with bare-bones features, and by July last year, the app was present in all KaiOS-powered smartphones.

WhatsApp Status feature in "Gold Master" stage

The news broke when the software engineering lead for WhatsApp on KaiOS, Joe Grinstead revealed in an interview to Android Central that the status message feature is at the “Gold Master” stage, which means it’s ready to roll out. Considering the minimal set of features present in the app, getting the Status message feature should be welcomed by all JioPhone users.

All said and done however, Status message on WhatsApp for JioPhone users isn’t the most anticipated by many. Especially when far more useful features like voice and video calling are not present. Grinstead did take up the question in the interview and said the voice calling features, which has been on WhatsApp since January 2015, is “particularly challenging” to enable on KaiOS smartphones. So, while we know the company is trying to enable it on feature phones, there’s no surety it will land up eventually.

WhatsApp perhaps the most popular app on JioPhones

WhatsApp for KaiOS garnered more than a million users on the platform within two weeks of its debut. The app presently offers the basics which include one-on-one and group chats, end-to-end encryption, sharing videos, images and GIFs and more. The report also mentions WhatsApp is working on introducing more features for the KaiOS version. The app is hands down the most popular and probably the first thing most JioPhone users download when setting up the phone.

To recap, the OnePlus 8 Pro has a 6.78-inch display with a 1440 x 3168 pixels resolution with support for HDR 10+. One of the posts on the OnePlus Forum reads, “I can confirm that this is the case on my OP8P right now too. Bootloader locked. Just logged in Netflix after years to check this out. Prime video is certainly SD as well. In the DRM info app, it's L3 for me too. I watched 4K UHD content in Prime video yesterday before I run the 2 updates on OP8P, so I’m pretty sure it's on their end.” It looks like the issue started when users upgraded their OnePlus 8 Pro to version 15.5.5 and persisted in version 15.5.6. According to Android Authority, “OnePlus is telling those affected to ship phones back to the factory.”

The OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro have launched in India, but have only gone on limited sale. The sale of the smartphone in India has been delayed due to some employees testing positive for the Coronavirus at the Oppo facility in Greater Noida where the smartphone is being assembled. Apple releases iOS 1351 to patch jailbreak vulnerability

Apple has just released an update to its mobile operating system iOS, updating it to iOS 13.5.1. It would appear that the sole purpose of this update is to patch the vulnerability that allowed the latest Unc0ver jailbreak to be made possible across all modern iOS devices running anything between iOS 11-13.5. The jailbreak has been out for only a week and Apple has already patched it.

Over the last decade, Apple has been becoming increasingly fast at patching vulnerabilities being exploited by jailbreakers to open iOS up to significant modifications. Apple has gone so far as to try and have jailbreaking declared illegal, but unfortunately failed to be able to do so in the United States and several other countries. Given that the Unc0ver jailbreak exploited a software-based vulnerability, Apple has quickly patched it with a software update, unlike Checkra1n, which is a hardware-level exploit that will jailbreak any device released between 2011 and 2017, irrespective of the version of iOS it runs.

Apple releases iOS 13.5.1 to patch jailbreak vulnerability

For those who are already jailbroken, and would like to stay that way, it is advisable to block auto-updates on the iPhone. The Unc0ver tool offers an option to do so. Once you are upgraded to iOS 13.5.1, there is a very small window, as small as 2-3 days, where you may be able to downgrade to iOS 13.5. However, once Apple stops signing iOS 13.5, there will be no way to downgrade and re-jailbreak. If you want your iOS device to remain jailbroken, the only way to do so is not to update your current version of iOS. While this is okay for now, since iOS 13.5.1 does not incorporate any critical updates, however, a future version of iOS might bring with it an important security patch, which might be worth upgrading to. In fact, once Apple starts rolling out iOS 14, things could get complicated. Users might be forced to choose between updating to the newest version of iOS or remaining on iOS 13.5 in order to retain the jailbreak. Apple is expected to show off iOS 14 at WWDC which starts on June 22, 2020.
