iFFALCON H71 and K71 series QLED TVs launching soon in India

iFFALCON, TCL’s sub-brand is all set to launch its 2020 QLED TVs in India. The model numbers will be H71 and K71 series and are expected to have similar features found on TCL’s recently launched QLED TV lineup. The H71 QLED model is expected to offer features like hands-free voice control to let users control the TV by simply using their voice. It is also expected to have a QLED panel with support for micro dimming.

iFFALCON H71 and K71 QLED TV Features and Specifications

Little is known about the specifications of the upcoming iFFALCON H71 and K71 QLED TV’s expect for the fact that the H71 will feature hands-free controls. This means the TV will have far-field mics and users can use the "Okay Google" command to control the TV without using the remote control. When we reviewed the TCL C715 QLED TV (you can read our review here), we found that the performance of the far-field mic was lacklustre and we resorted to the remote control after giving it a shot a few times. Maybe iFFALCON can work on improving this feature. The only TV where the far-field mic performed extremely well was with the Sony A9G OLED TV. You can check out our review of the A9G here.

Coming to other features, as the name suggests, the TVs will have QLED backlighting and since iFFALCON is launching two QLED TV lineups, we can expect there to be similar differences we saw between the TCL C715 and the TCL C815.

Both the iFFALCON H71 and K71 will have a 4K resolution and just like their TCL siblings will support HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. They will also run on the Android TV platform and we can expect the higher end of the two series to have speakers powered by a brand like Harman Kardon just like we’ve seen on past iFFALCON TVs.

As for the screen size, we think we the TVs will be available starting at about 55-inches going up to 75-inches. The TVs will come with a voice-enabled remote control. Running on Android, we can expect the TVs to support all popular streaming services from the get-go along with access to the Play Store for more apps.

iFFALCON H71 and K71 series QLED TVs launching soon in India

An iFFALCON spokesperson said, “We have been producing cutting-edge smart TVs in the recent past, which makes us super excited to roll out our latest suite of offerings. These TVs are expected to be equipped with some of the unmatched technologies in the smart TV segment and deliver rich and truly immersive viewing experience at affordable price points. At iFFALCON, we have always focused on innovation as well as affordability as the two prime factors to offer premium products and win customers. We hope to enthral you once again with our upcoming QLED series range of smart TVs and unveil this mystery soon.”

In other TV news, Thomson is expected to launch a 75-inch Android TV with support for 4K and HDR in August. You can check out what we know about the upcoming TV here. Thomson also launched a range of 4K HDR TVs in India starting at 43-inches which support Dolby Vision as well and run on Android TV. You can read more about the TVs here.

UPI AutoPay makes recurring payments easy

NPCI (National Payment Corporation of India) has launched UPI AutoPay for recurring payments up to Rs 2,000. With the new feature, users can use any UPI app to enable recurring payments for their mobile and electricity bills, app subscriptions, loan payments, insurance and mutual funds. As long as the transactions are under Rs 2,000, users can enable UPI AutoPay to automatically pre-authorise a transaction.

UPI payments recorded as many as 1.34 billion volume transactions amounting to over Rs 2.62 lakh crores in the month of June 2020 with a steady growth rate of 8.94 percent. It only lends credence to the popularity that UPI payments have gained since its launch in 2016. The new AutoPay feature will let users enable auto-debit for any recurring payments done online and if the payment amount is over Rs 2,000, the user will have to pre-approve every transaction with their UPI Pin.

Major banks and subscription services have already deployed the UPI AutoPay feature on their banking and payments apps. These include banks, merchants and payment aggregators including Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, HDFC Bank, HSBC Bank, ICICI Bank, IDFC Bank, IndusInd Bank, Paytm Payments Bank, AutoPe-Delhi Metro, AutoPe-Dish TV, CAMS Pay, Furlenco, Growfitter, Policy Bazaar, Testbook.com, The Hindu, Times Prime, Paytm, PayU, RazorPay and more.

UPI AutoPay makes recurring payments easy

UPI AutoPay feature is being tested by State Bank of India, Jio Payments Bank and Yes Bank for implementation in their respective apps and is expected to go live in the coming weeks.

Dilip Asbe, MD and CEO of NPCI said, “The launch of UPI AutoPay is a step ahead in India’s journey towards digitization. We have been witnessing a lot of changes in the way customers are making recurring payments over the last few years. The UPI AutoPay offering would provide millions of UPI user’s convenience and safety while making recurring payments. We believe this facility will not only benefit customers but also merchants with an all new recurring payments experience. We also hope to achieve new milestones by expanding UPI's presence especially in the P2M payment space”.

The supported UPI apps will have a dedicated UPI AutoPay section where users can create, approve, modify, pause and remove pre-approved payments. Any user can use the AutoPay feature to set recurring payments to one-time, daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly, half-yearly and annual for deductions. UPI AutoPay only requires your UPI Pin once for authentication and the subsequent payments are auto-debited.

Recurring payments isn’t something new as it is offered by other payment apps like Paytm but considering the wider adoption of UPI in India, the AutoPay feature is likely to attract many more users and merchants who offer subscription-based services.

Netflix is testing out a 10-month pause feature on the platform

Just about a month ago, Netflix said that it will be sending emails and notifications to users who have not logged in or used their service for a year since they joined. And, if the user did not respond to the email, Netflix would cancel the account. Now, the streaming giant is offering users an option to ‘pause’ their subscriptions and resume it when they want to. Netflix offered users an option to cancel their subscription but now is offering the option to pause it. Users can actually pause their memberships for 10 months.

Netflix is testing out a 10-month pause feature on the platform

If you do decide to resume your account in a span of 10 months or less, all your recommendations, watch history and the like will all be accessible. In a statement to Gadgets 360, Netflix said, “We're always working on new ways to improve the Netflix experience. We experiment with these types of tests in different countries for different periods of time — and only make them broadly available if people find them useful.”. The news was first reported by OnlyTech.

You can just resume your account again within 10 months of the pause period and you will retain your Netflix account along with its details, profiles and much more.

In other Netflix news, the streaming giant is now testing out its Mobile+ plan, priced at Rs 349 per month in India. You can read more about that here. Also, here’s a handy guide on how you can move individual titles from Netflix's 'Continue Watching' section.

Xbox Games Showcase: Watch tonights Xbox Series X games live stream here

Microsoft is all set to showcase their library of upcoming exclusives tonight and ahead of the event the gaming giant has showcased the box art for Halo Infinite. In addition to Halo, we can also expect to see first-party games from the studios that Microsoft acquired over the past 2 years. Another game to look forward to is Hellblade: Senua’s Saga. Microsoft did hold a Series X gameplay event in May but it was met with a lacklustre response as the one thing missing from the event was actual gameplay. Hopeful, Microsoft will underpromise and overdeliver this time around.

Watch the Xbox Games Showcase event live here

If you are planning on watching the event, you can do so right here. Above is the event video which kicks off at 9:30 PM India time. There is a preshow as well which Microsoft says will be packed with interesting information.

In other news, Microsoft has stopped the production of the Xbox One X and the Xbox One S all-digital edition and if information circulating the interwebs is true, then we can expect the company to reveal the lower-powered next-gen machine, Lockhart, soon. Whether they will showcase the machine tonight is yet to be seen.

Microsoft has also discontinued the annual Xbox Gold subscription and we think Microsoft will reshuffle its subscription plans. It has three options for Game Pass, Gold and the upcoming xCloud which is confirmed to be a part of Game Pass Ultimate.

Both the PS5 and Xbox Series X are quite heavy consoles. If you want to know how much each console weighs, you can check out the details here. We have also included the weight of the current console generation for you to draw a comparison.

iPhones in 2022 will come with a camera feature common in 2020 Android flagships

New information coming out of the iPhone rumour mill claims what’s mainstream technology today for Android phones will be a marquee feature for iPhones in 2022. The Cupertino giant is reportedly planning to use periscope telephoto lenses in the iPhone lineup in 2022, according to noted Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo.    The analyst claims that Semco, a South Korean that builds autofocus motors for this year’s new iPhone models will be providing half of the supply of periscope optics to Apple for 2022 iPhones.    Periscope telephoto lenses aren’t new at all. They have been in use in Android flagships like the Huawei P30 Pro, Oppo Find X2 Pro and the like, enabling long focal lengths with higher optical zoom. Traditionally, lenses require a lot of physical space to zoom closer to the object. With space being a key constraint in smartphones, periscope telephoto lenses are used which rely on prisms and mirrors (much like a periscope itself) to reflect light on the sensor.  iPhones in 2022 will come with a camera feature common in 2020 Android flagships Using the technology, companies like Huawei, Samsung and Oppo have managed to achieve up to 5X optical zoom and 100X in hybrid zoom. Telephoto lenses by themselves are not alien to iPhones. A secondary telephoto camera have been there on top-end iPhones since the iPhone 7 Plus. However, the level of optical zoom has always been limited to 2X.    Shifting to periscope telephoto lenses indicates Apple wants to move up the zoom ladder, enabling higher zoom levels on future iPhones. Currently, the Huawei P40 Pro holds the record of highest optical zoom of 10X using a periscope telephoto lens. Will the iPhone be able to beat it? Only time will tell.
